Hey, Pandas, What’s One Of Your Most Significant Kitchen Fails? (Closed)
We've all had our share of cooking/baking mishaps and there's no shame in it! For example, cooking rice for the first time in university and accidentally making enough for a small army.

I Forgot To Score The Eggplant
Oh my! Good thing it was just one? That skin is relentless. Nice to stab it a bunch with a fork or knife and inject some olive oil into it. Aletrnatively, cut it in half and slice up the flesh checkered-stlye without going through the skin (like a mango or avocado). Season with olive oil, salt and pepper then bake or fry it face down.

It was fun making them and fun watching him politely nibble the corner of one. I tried it and would rather eat actual play doh. We also made a fast food one once, burger, fries and coke, and that was more palatable.

Tried To Hit Pizza In The Oven, And Burnt The Baking Paper... Since Then I'm Cutting The Paper To The Shape Of What I'm Hitting
My husband loves bourbon chicken so before we got married I got the bright idea to make it for him. I found an easy crockpot recipe so I got all the ingredients and then hit the ABC store to get the bourbon. I'm looking for the right & most affordable bourbon when I see "apple bourbon". I'm an "adventurous cook" so I was like sure, what the hell, why not. So I add everything to the pot and decide hey, let's add twice the amount of alcohol! Make it extra bourbony. Dinner time comes around and I surprise him with what I had made for us. He grabs some plates and gets a large serving of the chicken for each of us. Long story short and moral of the story. DO NOT ADD TWICE OR MORE OF ALCOHOL THE RECIPE CALLS FOR especially if you're cooking in a crockpot. The alcohol in the bourbon was SUPPOSED to be cooked out while cooking but by adding so much extra it did not and we were both drunk off our a$$es before we went to bed. That was 10 years ago and he's never requested bourbon chicken again.
Oof, alcohol only really cooks off at high heats, a slow cook that retains much of its moisture isn't likely to do it. It's why you'll often see chefs light pans on fire to really burn it off.

It's embarrassing that I, a person whose ancestry is British Isles and Ukrainian, cannot make a potato pancake to save my life. Call it hash brown, latke, whatever you like, I cannot make them. Other than that I cook very well.
Not embarassing at all! I grew up in a Polish household and love to cook, but don't have the patients to form pierogi (Polish dumplings) which I guess is a sin haha. I think with the right recipe, practice and a little patience you'll be able to whip up some Deruny. If not, just keep cooking other delicious food :)

To make it worse, my father-in-law was visiting and insisted on eating them anyway. I was worried it was so much salt it would give him a heart attack or something and I begged him not to eat them, but he did anyway. He did survive them, thankfully!
Oh man. They must have been so salty!

I'm an experimental cook and never really use a recipe unless it's baking of which I'm not a fan. You gotta follow the instructions, throw it in the oven and pray. We've all put that brave face on for family or loved ones even when the food's just not cutting it haha

Don't have a pic, but I failed, but rebounded, at my first attempt at making a whole roast chicken. Didn't have the temperature high enough, and I didn't put it in long enough. Outside was cooked, but it was raw when I sliced into the breast. Took about another hour to be fully cooked. I also failed at my first attempt at making Japanese style curry. Added too much water, so rather than it being more of a thick sauce, it was more like I made curry soup instead, over a bed of rice.
Been there with roasting a bird for the first time. When it comes to the curry, next time you can just throw the rice in to the curry to cook and absorb that excess water ;)

It didn't cook at all, it was just wet dough and toppings and fell onto the bottom pizza ruining both. I also once set an oven mit on fire but we've all done that, right? 😅
I would be so sad. This made me think how it would workout if the pizzas were sandwiched together. I have defintiely set an oven mitt on fire haha

Such a satisfying feeling when something turns out well when you anticiapte the worst! Also, a gas stove or open flame have so many perks. I like to char an onion or peppers for stock or salsas. I'm working with an induction stove these days and it's just not the same.
