It's not really that weird, but a good thing to know. If someone has a panic-attack or similar, ask them to focus on and tell you five things they can see, then four things they can hear, then three things they can feel, two things they can smell and one thing they can taste. Doesn't have to be precise in any way, but it helps them reset the brain by focusing on something basic that has nothing to do with the origin of their fear. Breathing techniques basically do the same, but some people have become 'allergic' to them and it may be too little of a distraction, especially since breathing 'wrong' is also a co-factor in panic-attacks.

I do something like this when one of the children in Kindergarten Class comes in weeping violently and bleeding a little. I tell them they must have a sticking plaster on. I then take out two different packages and ask them which one they want. That makes them think of something other than their injury.

    You can cool things down to loosen them up. If you have a tightly locked object with a nut or a screw or something that rotates that is stuck, a cap basically. Put it in the freeze wait 10 minutes and try opening it again.

    Tin foil (aluminium foil) plus baking soda plus hot water. Put silverware/jewelry in it. Voila, clean.

    Salt also works. The point is to make the water conductive so it creates oxidation-reduction reaction between the metals. The result of this reaction is clean silverware aluminium/copper/etc is oxidiced and silver/gold/etc is reduced). Electrolysis it is called.

    If you work in an office setting or WFH, make sure there isn't a clock in your eye line and hide all clocks on your pc/laptop. Its a game changer, makes the time move faster.

    This one worked for me 99.99% of the time:

    When someone has the hiccups, ask them what they ate the previous day. Just go through dinner, lunch, etc. You can't do it to yourself, someone has to ask you about it (so weird).

    Works 100% of the time - plug your ears with thumbs, plug your nose with pointer fingers, then drink a glass of water through a straw. I know it sounds silly, but works for me every time.

    One principle that has served me well is "NEVER miss a chance to look professional in front of the customer". Doesn't matter if it's an external client or a co-worker who is a 'customer' for what you do. Example: I used to admin servers for a small web development group. Some of our 'customers' (government agencies) hosted their sites themselves and we would deliver periodic updates on homemade CDs and DVDs. We had been scrawling handwritten labels on these disks with a sharpie, and they looked awful. I convinced the boss to spend $150 on an inkjet printer that could print directly on 'printable disks', and get us some of those blanks. I took over that job, grabbed our logo and the customers' logos, and started printing the delivery disks, and they looked absolutely great, like commercially produced. It was a decent return on a very small investment.

    Use a calendar/task manager for everything, and I mean everything. You should be putting all phases of your work, recurring tasks, meetings, etc. so they show up on your calendar and remind you of deadlines. Don't use a pad of paper for a checklist. I run my day with Outlook, and I get high points for organization, hitting deadlines, and not letting anything fall through the cracks.

    Also, you can take free certificate courses on sites like LinkedIn Learning to build job skills.

    Sounds great, but would be my idea of a nightmare. That;s why I am so happy to be working shifts after 20yrs raising son. I am a "by the skin of my teeth girl" unless timing is critical!

    1: De-core the lettuce by slamming it core down on the counter.

    2: WD-40 and ink stains. And many carpet stains.

    3: Apple Juice Concentrate instead of water in box cake mixes (1/2 & 1/2).

    4: Exfoiliant sprays for acne, especially body acne, and wrinkle.

    5: What you put in, is what you get out. Don't watch horror films, in-depth murder documentaries, or watch any televised news beyond your local station.

    6: Apologies (genuine ones, where you admit and own your behavior), will get you farther in life (and protect you from more liability) that you could ever imagine. Getting away unidentifiable, creating a good cover story, or downright lying will never be so beneficial. People always have a gut feeling when you're guilty they may not understand, but will still change their behavior towards you even if they accept your story/excuse/lie.

    1 only works well with iceberg lettuces. But it does work _really_ well for them.

    Thin, sticky plastic bags are easy to open by pulling the handles to opposite directions.
