Hi Pandas, what random skills do you have, but no longer need?
I can marshal aircraft (worked with tiny planes all the way up to 747), but I don't work in aviation any more.
This post may include affiliate links.
I can do formal logic, but since nothing makes sense in this world, I rarely need it.
I find doing formal "chaos" is far more appropriate for the 21st Century......and still NO "flying cars"!
I have really good memory for random facts or anecdotes. Want to know the code names of all operations of WW2? Got them. Name of the lookout that spotted the iceberg on the Titanic? Know it. Number of cannons aboard HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar? Yep. Mozart's stage directions for Don Giovanni? Sure.
But... What's the name of the coworker I have known for almost a year or where did I leave my keys? No clue...
I can recognize any song from listening to it for a few seconds and remember all the lyrics in one listen. It’s pretty dumb but its good for one person karaoke at 2am.
Try out for game shows. There is a new one that the winner gets 1 million dollars. All based on remembering lyrics.
I can make a duck call and tap dance, not necessarily separately.
I can put my foot behind my head, and make a Donald duck impression
i know 4 languages, but majority of time using only English... sometimes another one but that's that :( my grandpa used to know 5, but due to not having anyone to talk to - he forgot. Afraid same will happen to me after years.
I can snap with my toes. I don't know how, but we're talking a full on snapping noise.
Kinda cool actually. Like if you got kidnapped and can't scream and your hands are tied up, but your toes are free.
I can flare/ wiggle my nostrils at will. Besides an occasional "Hey guess what I can do" moment it has no use.
Not me, my husband. He can waggle both eyebrows separately. Total wave action. Our kids are very jealous.
Due to a past life where I wanted to be a star of the theater, I can sing about 25 different Broadway musicals start to finish from memory. I am not in the theater. I do have the nerdy reputation for having a song for every situation though. Not to mention, my 5 year old thinks I am an improvisational queen!
I'm very creative with snarky sarcasm. No longer need it because I pi$$ed off all my friends and family with it. Oops
All the math I learned in highschool. I've never come across a problem in life where I was like "You know what I need? Trigonometry!"
rifle iron sights shooting. i'm pretty gifted at that. but as i'm vegan it's actually totally useless
I served in the US Marines..I can put one helluva spit shine on a pair of combat boots.
I have hypervigilance causing my brain to listen to every conversation in the room unwillingly.
I tend to subconsciously count things such as dealing cards, etc. Only handy when dealer loses track AND believes me.
I can roll up hills. You know how you get into a "mummy" position and roll down a hill, usually angling off to the side a little? One day, for whatever reason, I decided to see if I could roll uphill. To my surprise (and everyone else's), I could. It's easier than it sounds.
I'm very flexible especially my fingers but it's not very useful in daily life. Just a fun party trick.
Can suck my lip so far back in my face you can see bone structures
I can write upside down, and backwards, in cursive.
I can clap with one hand. The sound of one hand clapping is clapping not silence. Sometimes people who think they are clever need to be one upped.
The ability to make myself nauseous.
I earned this skill when I was deep in my ed. really don’t need it now but I can’t get rid of it :(
I can p**s off a lot. of people online by having a different point of view or opinion. Don't know how I got it, just developed it.
I can do a full range of very realistic cat vocalizations.
I learned to manually space letters for signs, posters and such. Then computers took over...
I can remember the most uncommon and obscure movie quotes. Even movies I haven't seen in years. Ill be having a conversation with someone, they'll say something, that triggers my movie roledex, pulls out movie x, and I quote a line from that movie. Happens in an instant. People are amazed sometimes but is it "useful?" Nahhh bruhhh.
I do the same. Though it makes it feel like the people in the world have nothing original to converse about and that every conversation is a cyclical routine having no substance. Geez... we are living in the matrix aren't we.
I have perfect pitch, but it is nearly useless.
I have a friend with perfect pitch. He can play almost any instrument, has built his own, guitars, ukuleles, violins, and other instruments, writes his own musics, etc. I just went to get the URL to his website and discovered that he had a stroke. Life sucks.
I can train cats - to come on call, walk through an obstruction course, high five, wave, ride a skateboard etc., - but since I've had my spleen removed I'm in danger of getting seriously ill if I get bitten or scratched by an animal.
I can bark like a dog. Like really well. It causes the dogs in the vicinity to start barking. Only useful for a lot of noise
Procrastination. I g t so good at it by not doing anything else.
I can whistle with my mouth open. Because I can whistle like that, I can do a perfect cricket impression... I just vibrate my lips and it sounds exactly like a cricket. Yup it's useless.
if I know anyone's name, even years later I can still remember their name
My dad is like that too and he remembers birthays just the same.
I can weld razor blades together edge to edge. I learned that after welding together soda cans got to easy. I weld every day for work but I do structural welding and lift fixtures.
Not a skill but I can win Uno everytime. I have great intuition.
I have relative pitch, and it does come in handy sometimes during orchestra and violin lessons, but literally any other time it's completely useless
i can bring my left elbow to the right side of my head behind my back and vice versa. this only has use in shocking and disgusting people. one guy legit turned away and gagged immediately. everyone else jist froze and said " what the F**K"
I'm a credit counselor, but live on a fixed income, so that's useless.
I know a lot of about chemical, nuclear, and biological weapons, but since I'm retired, no one calls on me for any information on that...
I can sing “Ten Green Bottles” in Latin! I’m a must at parties!
*accidentally mispronounces words while singing* Satan: you called?
I can vibrate my eyeballs voluntarily. Like, not shake them. Literally VIBRATE my actual eyeballs. Google it if you don't believe me. I can also fold my thumb behind my hand.
I can do this. I freak out everyone, and my friend wants to teach him how. Idk how
Long division. Not useful at all, even though my math teacher always told me that i would need it.😭
I can recite the alphabet backwards and I randomly diagram sentences for fun.
This is getting scary- I still diagram sentences too! When Sister Catherine taught you something in 1968, you damn sure learned it! I don’t think they even teach that any more.
I recognize actors/actresses voices if they were in Star Trek, even if it's one episode with full prosthetics.
I know fourteen different ways to hit you with a stick. Actually a honbo, from studying Ninjutsu, but still....
Nope. Highly useful skill, depending on time of day and where you live!
I can cuss in three languages, French, English, and German
I can operate one of those old-timey peg and wire switchboards that phone operators used about a thousand years ago. :-)
Oh my lord! Running the trunk line in 1975! I had to fill in for the operator during her break, and I loved it. Didn’t wanna do it for 8 hrs though, too stressful!
I'm obsessed with medical diagnostics, but I'm looking into careers in nursing. Hope I get to do something with that, though :)
Maybe you can help me. 3 doctors, and all kinds of tests, and 7 weeks laters later, oh and a weight loss of 30 lbs. and still no clue what's wrong. Yes, I needed to lose weight, but not this way, and I need to eat without getting sick everytime I even smell food. Now I am just waiting for the endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduling date. yay!
i can see and count all of my ribs without breathing in. i’m 13
I can only draw Alastor from hazbin hotel
I can associate almost any word with song
I can do this but with Beatles songs! Also, any time I hear a rooster crow, "Good Morning Good Morning" automatically starts in my head.
I love making maps! I will pull up google maps or google earth and make a complex map. Sadly, there isn’t really jobs for mapmaking as most of the world is mapped already.
Stellar cartography. There is so much more outside of our world.
Spending money
I can make farting sounds with only my hands! In person, I'm also pretty decent at making people believe absolute rubbish
My master's degree. I've never worked a single day in my field.
I can…
Tell when people are lying (extremely easily)
Do a good impression of Shrek
Bend the tips of my thumbs backwards, not my force, they just bend that way
Identify all my local birds and most common garden plants and trees
I can identify any movie just watching 10 seconds, also if you Humm a song to me I can pinpoint the movie and find the lirics with Google or Shazam (hyperfocus who?)
My ability to ignore pain longer than my siblings. They complain and I'm like "suck it up buttercup" even though I'm going through the same thing. I just tend to say "I've been through worse" and shrug it. Like one time I got stung by a bee in a pool and kept swimming the I noticed something was not right (like a pinching sore feeling) and so I went to the shallow end and the adult pointed out a stinger in my shoulder.
I knew someone who felt pain, knew it was painful, but didn't care. Like he felt it but didn't. Odd.
Give me three descriptive words, I'll create a character for it. Then I'll make a whole universe, storyline and other related characters to join them. reasonably useful for, say, an author, but I'm not an author. Also this one is genuinely useless, if someone gives me a number i can probably tell you what SCP has that exact number and give you a rundown of what they do. And if I can't I'll go look it up and I'll know everything about it next time somebody asks me.
DESCRIPTIVE words. Scared, bright, antidisestablishmentarianism
Load More Replies...I feel like your calling is calling you. You should answer. Don't discount this. It could end up being quite fulfilling for you and your readers. The written word has long been revolutionary.
I can bend my knee up to the point where if I bend it backwards far enough I can touch my armpit with my toes. Sounds gross but it's kinda cool to me lol
I'm a teen and I can over complicate things and work technology from the 60s-90s.
I can learn the basics of any instrument in about 2 hours but I never get a chance to use it):
Why not? Get a band together. You sound like a talented person. The world needs more music, dude. We need you!
If you give me any word, I can almost always burst into a song based on that word. I’ll prove it if you want. :)
I am wicked fast and can run 15 miles without stopping .never use except for pleasure
Can lay out a defensive position and call in artillery. Not much use for it hereabouts lately :P
I am amazing at remembering anything that goes to a melody, along with song title, and the artist’s name.
I am a caring person, considrate, hard-working and creative.
I take a stand and have an opinion .
Not wantend by employers.
Those people who have those traits are pure gold. However, many spelling errors in your question leads me to believe that you've been passed over because of THAT and not the other things you listed
I taught myself to juggle about thirty years ago. I can still do it when I'm steady enough on my feet to stand like that.
I have more control than everyone I have ever met over my face muscles, it has no use except impressing people sometimes
I don't know if that's a skill, but I'm a very calm and nonjudgmental person. I always say only two things get on my nerves: if someone messes with my dogs or if someone cuts in front of me when I'm in line for a concert. I can listen to any story, doesn't matter how shocking, with the same blank face, probably the reason strangers feel at ease talking to me. I was the star intern and had great reviews at uni when I was studying to be a psychologist.
i can jump really high, which is only useful when my tall cousin is being irritating lol
Cooking. I'm not really good, but I'm perfectly adequate. I've always hated it and pretty much avoid all but minor tasks.
I can lick my own elbow
...yeah
Wait, really? That's cool, and super rare! Fun party trick, at least...
I can remember really random details that will never be needed in a conversation or easy or anything really.
I do the same thing. Guess our usernames aren't our only similarity!
I'm double jointed in both my fingers and my toes, to the point where I can bend them back so far you can see the bones (idk if it's possible but I think that I almost dislocated all of my fingers and toes).
I can come up with dramatic and edgy monologues and quotes as well as describing a scene graphically.
No matter the brand or number of items, I will ALWAYS find the chocolate praline with the gooey pink filling. I hate that.
I can sing embarrassingly well but I'm self-conscious and cherish my anonymity. Even my fella doesn't know how well I can sing. I don't think I'll ever make money from it and I would never sing in public. I would shake with nerves but when I have free time, with the windows closed so the neighbours can't hear me, I go...to town!
Maybe you could sing on Youtube or something, you could share your voice while maintaining anonymity!
I took photography during my last semester in college, so now I can develop film and make photo prints. Problem is, I no longer have access to the campus darkroom, any of the materials, or chemicals. Shame too, seeing as I was apparently the stand out student and often used as the example for well made prints. Besides, in a world of digital photography, who's going to justify paying $10 for one roll of black and white film?
I can balance a glass half filled with liquid tilted on an angle on a dime.
Making angry responses. This is almost ended a few relationships. Getting better at restraining it though!
Crushing on a boy (often times actors) 2.8 seconds after I first see them.
Help.
You guys are being so supportive but I still regret posting this XD
I’m really good at sneaking around for no reason and if you make me angry because you don’t believe me about something that I know is correct or wrong I will research it and write a full essay with all sources cited
Can imitate pig's grunts astonishingly realistic by inhaling through nose and vibrating my soft palate. Only came in handy once when teaching animal sounds to a 2 year old
How to load songs onto an iPod
I used to be a body piercing artist. Very useless skills outside of a shop.
I can read upside down. There are so few opportunities for this to come up in conversation. And people just aren’t that impressed, sigh
I can tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue.
I can blow free floating saliva bubbles off my tounge.
I can milk a cow. Not something I need to know since my parents sold the cows and retired 15 years ago. I can also do many other things usually done on farms. Kind of uneseccary as an accountant.
It is a nice skill to have and not as easy as it looks...and who knows...it might come in useful one day...
I can write in cursive upside down, backwards, left handed and read upside down with ease.
I live in Japan and can, most of the time, estimate the approximate epicentre and magnitude of earthquakes I feel.
That is useful...especially if you live in a high-rise building..
I have long toes that I can move like fingers and so I am able to use my feet as another pair of hands. Unfortunately, I am requited to wear shoes at work, and so it doesn't help me there. But this skill is very helpful when I am doing DIY projects at home. Have you ever been trying to do something and felt that you needed a third hand? I have a third and fourth.
I know the ABC. My pupils asked me, why they need to learn the order and I genuinely couldn't find an example. Damn you Google.
I can make a clover with my tongue and move something in my arm to make weird noises (not sure what exactly or why, it just happens). Not useful at all, but they're neat tricks.
Common sense and a 3 digit IQ. It makes your life more difficult nowdays....

Same. I can also grab a pen, write, etc etc. basically im a human monke
I can remember the last line of almost every book I read.
I can meow like a cat, bark like a puppy, and bark like a dog. All very realistic. Once I meowed at lunch and everybody thought there was a cat inside. I can also do cloverleaf tongue, bend one section of my middle finger, and put my fingers one after the other in both ways. All of these are useless but they are pretty cool to me!
I can look at any nut or bolt and know the exact mm socket I need. It’s a skill I’ve had most of my life but I didn’t work with cars until a few years back when I started vinyl work so I don’t know where I picked it up. It’s not a completely useless skill but it isn’t really useful either. Lol. And I can wiggle my nose. Maybe I should be the Easter bunny for kids. :) that would be somethin. Bipolar Easter bunny? Yes please! Otherwise the nose wiggle is just here to weird out the dog and cats!
I can come up with terrible, groan-inducing, dad-level puns basically on the spot. My friends are all sick of them so I've been asked not to do it anymore, but maybe I could have a career writing kids' joke books or punny valentine cards.
I remember addresses very easily and can give the address of every place I stayed plus all my friends current and past addresses. I also remember the layout of houses and buildings years after. So I can walk into a place I have not been to in years and instantly know where everything is. Don't ask me to remember names of people though or recognise people, that I am hopeless at.
I can recognize a movie I've seen just by hearing a few seconds of music, or dialogue. Annoys my sister because I still like to confirm it, and she has said, "if you know what it is why are you asking?!"
I can sing (cluck?) any song like I'm a chicken. Not that this is really a SKILL because I'm sure it's something anyone can do. WHY someone would want to do it is a whole 'nother question! But it's something I find MYSELF doing almost unconsciously, especially when the song fits the style. (The theme song to Star Trek is a perfect example of a song that fits the style! LOL!)
I can also tie a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue!
Neither of these are useful in any way!
I can knit a scarf in a day.
I can clean and sterilize surgical instruments. I was a processing technician for 5 years and know hundreds of surgical instruments and their proper methods of cleaning and sterilization, but I don't do that anymore so it's just a bunch of useless information hanging out in my brain. It's not often I get to explain the proper use of glutaraldehyde..
double jointed, and can bend my arms in the wrong direction. useless, but can freak people out.
My battle with Breast cancer started 4 years ago, after so many Chemo, Radiation and other natural therapy treatments that I took just to cure my Breast cancer, it all did not work for my condition. I was treating this disease for almost 4 year, I was cured with World Rehabilitate Clinic formula. This is medication that totally kills cancer cells. They also have a cure for hysterectomy issues, Alzheimer's Disease and more other chronic diseases. Contact ( worldrehabilitateclinic.com or WhatsApp +17278553511.
Former combat engineer & armorer, USMC. 30 minutes in Home Depot then a couple of hours at home in my shop, and I can walk out with a couple of functioning 12 guage boom sticks and enough exolosives and associated pyrotechnics to take out my cul-de-sac.
Probably going to be a useful skill in a post apocalyptic world. Could be sooner than later.
I can name the General for Carthage during the Punic Wars.

and geography was useless too, all the teacher wanted us to learn about was Zimbabwe because she liked the place
I got my Masters in Clinical Social Work, with a 4.0 average, a few years ago. I was in my early 60's, and not one agency within 4 states, would even give me a job interview. They all required me to reveal when I got my first college degree and that 1970's date sent my app straight to the black hole. There is a desperate need for therapists in this country but age discrimination is much stronger than the public interest. Many older adults are in a similar position and their years of skills are being wasted due to stereotyping and other factors. There is almost no enforceable legal remedy for this form of discrimination.
I’m ambidextrous, which in itself can be sorta useful: It doesn’t matter whether the mouse is or left or right side of the keyboard for example, and back when I worked as a teacher kids found it funny that I started writing with my left hand and continued with the right on the chalkboard. Anyway, as the world is mainly set up for right-handed people, I quietly pretend being one myself, as well.
That must have been funny indeed, finishing your sentences with the other hand.
In Monster’s Inc. Boo would always say “Mike Wazowski” in her toddler voice and I can do the impression perfectly.
I can turn my eyelids inside out- freaks the hell out anyone who asks to see it, but it's never used in life!
I developed a system for writing coded messages with a friend of mine when we were 10. Still remember how it works, so I could write messages no one else understands. Not really useful
I can make this weird honking noise that others can't seem to mimic. I can also touch my elbows behind my back, and drop my ear to my shoulder.
Honesty. Unfortunately lying works better and I never learned how to do it convincingly.
I can hold almost $10 worth of quarters in my collarbone indents (supraclavicular fossa) and walk around without dropping any but it gets uncomfortable with the tensing needed to hold them all.
i can play drums. like, very good, after listening to any song.
AC/DC and Nirvana is the best to play drums to. (sorry if dissapoiting)
[sorry for my spelling too]
Not knowing or explaining the reason why we need to know ABC order? Seriously? How about the library or Barnes & Noble, where books are kept in ABC order by author's name? Working in the medical field where patient charts are organized in ABC order. Filing papers in just about any office. Yes, we are going paper free these days, but all my client files are computerized and sorted by name. So still a necessary skill, not useless!
I can belly dance. I use to BD when my colleagues and I were in a stressful time at work. They would start clapping and laughing and just go back to work with a lighter heart. It took less than 5 minutes and my job was done. I'm going to add that I have a really keen sense of smell. When my brother's GF mixed up all his herb garden after they dried, he called me over so I could undo the chaos in his kitchen: thyme, oregano, etc. She was shocked "you're just gonna go with what she says???" Yep he did. (her and I don't really like each other...).
