While working in the food industry we get takeout orders and sometimes the people don't know whats on the menu so I have to read it to them and then they say ok and hang up without ordering, so I read the whole menu to them and they don't order, but that's ok I've done it quite a few times so I'm used to it.
Customer Service for a Medical Supply company about 30 years ago that was based in California. After taking an order the guy asked me if I had AIDS yet. My reply was "Is there anything else I can do for you"? I didn't give him the satisfaction thinking he flustered me. I'm use to nasty comments about California but something as bad as AIDS isn't something to laugh or joke about. The guy was just a straight up A$$HOLE.
I had a nurse swear at me and call me stupid because I refused to release patient results to her over the phone without the patient's full name (first & last)... Suppose she had 3 patients named "Bob" on the ward, how would either of us know she's being given the results for the right Bob? Medical decisions (treatment, medications, etc.) are based on lab results, it could have resulted in a life-threatening situation if she wasn't given the correct patient's results. It was incredible to me that a registered nurse would have been so careless about ensuring she was getting the right results for the right patient, and that she didn't care enough to check his chart to tell me the patient's name, but placed the blame on me instead because I wouldn't break protocol and release results for a patient that the nurse refused to properly identify. And it wasn't an emergency situation, she just couldn't be bothered to do her due diligence.
When I worked at Pizza Hut, I was trying to take a customer's order and the assistant manager and the shift manager got into a really loud fight near the phones and the customer heard the shift manager cussing the assistant manager out.
