The UK is to debate a bill that would allow assisted dying for the terminally not well. Setting religious arguments aside (please) - do you have a convincing argument for or against? Having seen my mother suffer for 6 months unnecessarily, I'm very much in favor, assuming safeguards are followed rigorously. Which way would you vote, and why?

I'm all for it. It's the humane thing to do. Everyone should have the choice whether to die peacefully or live on in pain knowing the end is still coming. We should trust that the person knows their own body and mental state and whether it's time to give up the fight. Although technically not euthanasia, two of my brothers had to make the decision whether it was time to go or not. They had a rare degenerative neuromuscular condition where their muscles kept weakening and eventually their lungs couldn't function properly. The older one was intubated and in palliative care in hospital for a few weeks. He was conscious and there was a chance he could have lived on the ventilator for longer, but the quality of life would have been terrible and he and my parents decided to turn off the life support. When my younger brother's condition got worse we had to decide whether to go the same route or not. Ultimately he decided not to go through the trauma of being intubated and we said goodbye to him at home. I know not everyone is in the same situation, but they should have control over how and when they die when they have a chronic/degenerative condition.
Well gor some people its die quickly and painlessly or die slowly and painfully and they should be able to choose
