I'll go first (also bear in mind I'm a Christian): I like the idea of having a personal relationship with the Creator of the Universe who died for my sins. However, I dislike how religion often becomes a political tool of oppression and control.

Like: festivals bring joy and time to spend with loved ones (generally...... because i know sometimes festivals also become pain)
Dislike: The fact that religion becomes the reason of way too many riots, murders, and even wars. All religions teach us to respect other person's interest and be kind bur sometimes religion becomes the cause of inverse.
I'm an atheist so... Peace.
I like that if gives people a deep sense of community. Especially in older people, that provides alot of comfort. I dislike when people use religious morality as a basis for ethics in modern situations. Ie. When people try to apply the Bible to the gender confirmation surgery.
I think there needs to be space that a book written thousands of years ago perhaps shouldn't be used to decide a relatively new procedure that has literally no scriptural basis.
Like: Baptist here. I enjoy the friendships and the fellowships.
Dislikes: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor (only if they are heterosexual, not having sexual relations before marriage)"
Also, some churches run like a corporation and if you don't make enough annually then you are not good enough to serve.
I am told I cant be a member of the mormon church because im queer and non-binary so even though I do believe in everything and feel and believe in the holy spirit and jesus and god I cant be a member because I dont follow ALL of their ways, even though a lot of people in this church are allies for both of these things and I go to the young women activities for fun and they having me there (I havent come out to my homophobic grandparents.) but apparently other people in the church say Im not enough for this belief...
i love the concept of, when things are really bad, you can at least try to make things a little bit better and feel a tad better by praying. however, i don’t like all the hate that people use religion as an excuse for, like homophobia.
Like: Statistical people who believe have lower suicide rates. The bible has some good stories.
Dislike: extreme religious zealots, those who don’t practice what it’s meant to be about - loving everyone for who they are. Also when their children can’t do normal kid stuff because their religion won’t allow it or it because it’s the sins of the devil (things like tv shows, video games etc)
I was brought up catholic, pretty much an atheist but have interest in Doaism.
Like - That people have some one to pray to in tough times. Provides sense of security
Dislike - When religion is used to promote violence, hate & take advantage of people
One thing I like about religion (at least in the USA) is the potential for comfort it can provide to believers.
What I dislike about religion is almost everything else.
Churches at Christmas have all the best songs. Unfortunately also full of self-righteous Christians.
At my church (that I’m very lucky to be at), almost everyone accepts almost everyone. Every church has the people who don’t practice what they preach and end up being not so great people, but at our church, you can pretty much just be yourself. My friend was entirely accepted when he wore a dress to Christmas mass. Most places just don’t have this
I like that you can find peace and comfort (if practiced right).
I loath the holier than thou attitude that SO many “religious” people have.
I hate it when someone wants to convince you of their religion.
I hate it that SO MANY wars started BECAUSE of religion and still start out of religion.
I hate fundamentalists that use their “religion” as an excuse or reason to wreck death and decay. And no, I am not talking about moslim fundamentalists, also Jewish fundamentalists, Christian fundamentalists (the crusades, the Spanish inquisition, like damn…).
Like: The magical characters, and stories that come from religion.
Dislike: Religion stopping people from doing things (Eating meat, playing video games, being LGBTQ+, ect.), Brainwashing people (Convincing people into believing bad/ untrue things like their parents being abusive when they aren't), Making people STUDY AND MEMORIZE 1200 PAGES WORTH OF RELIGION (I'm looking at you, Christians!), making people afraid that if they do even just a slightly bad thing, they will go to a bad place in death (Hell, Underworld, ect.), and making them go to a place at the same time every day for hours at a time which is just adding to their schedule! That's why I don't have a religion.
Memorizing... 1200... pages? You mean the Bible? Never seen anybody making somebody do that, and I attend church events A LOT :/
Atheist here! I like how it can help people who aren't in a mentally great place and give them something to rely on, I dislike both the outdated political stances and hatred of most religions and the cultiness of a lot of them.
Great president Park Chung-Hee was an atheist. He abolished all traditions and customs related to religion in process of New Village activism.
I like that it helps people deal with upsetting or hard situations. For example, if a loved one passes away, it can help to think they’re going to heaven. However, I think some religions have become twisted out of their original shape by humans. I’m an atheist and I sometimes disagree with some religions especially if they’re sexist/racist/phobic/discriminatory in any way. Not saying this in angry way towards other religions by the way! I think everyone should believe in whatever they want, however if those beliefs affect other people negatively, that’s not really ok, in my opinion. Thanks for reading :)
Like: Giving people good reasons to actually get along with each other
Dislike: Giving people bad reasons to not get along with each other...
I like that in some cases organized religion Can offer peace and solace to people during trying times. I dislike that people can use religion to deflect their racism and bigotry under the guise that god is directing them.
I like how it can bring people together and support system for someone going through a rought time.
I dislike how it's used as a reason to hate people and spread dangerous misinformation.
Are you asking what I dislike about GOD? Or the religion? Idk so ima just say I’m Catholic. That is all. Ima probably go check if anyone commented on my Rorschach stuff. K bye.
Religion, not god. God is fine. Religion, especially organized religion, can be a bit f****d up at times
like: sense of hope from and belief
dislike: how many religions are exclusive and believe they are better than others
nothing good ever came out of religion
It can help people who feel alone or are going through tough times and need something to rely on. The concept was good, the execution f*****g sucks
I like how Scientology makes every other religion sound believeable! What I dislike about religion, and perhaps its actually people but I dont like how some people think their religion is the right one and cant get over themselves about other people having other religions. I dont know if religion does that or if people do it to themselves.
Well this ain’t too easy to answer but here goes(Keep in mind I’m a Mormon)
Like: The hymns are amazing and also the ward itself is like a community and the Bishop and his counselors(Basically the leaders of the ward) are amazing and the ones I have had were like father figures for me. In general it feels like you’re part of a community.
Dislike: some of our teachings are a bit vague, and they do lack specification which can be quite boring to be honest. Also, that our church can be quite judgmental of others, because we are quite conservative.
It makes me feel less alone and having someone to pray to really helps in hard times. I was having a difficult time in the second half of 2022 (anxiety, eating disorder, extreme emetophobia) and praying and trusting the Lord was the only thing that got me through it. If it weren't for religion, I would very likely not be alive right now.
I'm so sorry for what you've been going through, but I am thankful the Lord has been with you through it all. Know that you'll be in my prayers. Blessings to you ❤
