Is there a book or movie quote that you try to incorporate into your life and behavior? What is it? Why?

From Dune by Frank Herbert:“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

I often have anxiety , fear, and second guess myself. This is the quote I reference to myself when trying to overcome these feelings.

"Success is the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you have done your best, and that you have done the right thing." - John Wooden (NBA coach).

It baffled me when I first read it. For years I had been told that success is winning/ having academic achievements/ earning money and have possessions & the like. What does he mean by "peace of mind"? What is that? I read it again, and again, and again, and the meaning started to dawn on me.

Now when I face professional challenges, I wonder: "have I done my best?". And when before making a decision, I question myself: "is it the right thing?" If both are "yes", there is, indeed, a peace of mind that comes from it. Wishing you all to experience it :)

“Ever loved someone so much, you would do anything for them? Yeah, well make that someone yourself and do whatever the hell you want.” -Harvey Specter, Suits

This one seems like a two-for-one because I haven't always been accepting of myself and I really want to succeed. I always want to fight tooth and nail for the ones I love, why not learn to love myself and fight just as hard for my happiness and success.

"Everybody is a book of blood; wherever we're opened, we're red."
-Clive Barker from Books of Blood

I love this quote so much that it's tattooed on me. I love the wordplay but beyond that knowing each person is their own book and their stories and experiences are different from mine helps me to stay grounded. We are only the main character in our own story after all.

I've heard in a few different movies something to the effect of, "Courage isn't the absence of fear. It's deciding that what you want to do for yourself or for someone else, is more important." Whenever I feel afraid, I remember that philosophy.

From Team America World Police:
"See, there are three kinds of people: d**ks, p***ies and a****les. P*****s think everyone can get along and d**ks just want to f**k all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your a****les. And all the a****les want is to s**t all over everything. So p*****s may get mad at d**ks once in a while because, p****es get f**ked by d**ks. But d**ks also f**k a****les! And if they didn't f**k the a****les, you know what you'd get? You'd get your d*ck and your p**sy all covered in s**t!"
This changed my outlook on life.

“Maybe greatness isn’t about being immortal, or glorious, or popular-it’s about choosing to fight for the greater good of the world, even when the world’s turned its back on you.” -The Land of Stories: Beyond the Kingdoms.

One of my favorite book quotes. A lot of kids my age are so focused on trying to be popular, but I know in 5 or so years, it's not going to matter who was the most popular, but what the world we're suddenly going into is like, and how we're going to navigate it.

You are the Creator of your reality.

From Locke, 2013
"Stefan is a good man.

He will fix the pit and check the others.
All 12 pumps will work.

The stop-go will run.

The north, south, east and west gates
will all take their quarter of concrete.

The baby will be born.

And Katrina will be okay.

In the morning she will be okay.

That is how it can be. That is my prayer."

Sure this is about a massive concrete pour on a gigantic job site, and also a serious issue concerning Katrina. But there's a more important thing happening here on a higher level. Locke is a very strong, capable and powerful man who juggles 100 balls at a time and is well rewarded for it. This passage is an admission that there are several things happening right now that he can't fully control. Any one of them could go sour against his wishes, and with unthinkable consequences. This passage demonstrates surrender. So he describes a list of his desired outcomes. He asserts the absolute fact that "This is how it can be." And he asks for assistance.

There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.

What's that?

Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

Ok, Joke. I don't actually live by this. But it's an amazing quote.
