What are some unique pets that are worth getting?

#1

I just want to remind people that wild exotic animals are not suitable as pets. People does not have the space, time and materials to make them healthy and happy and they should not be purchased. Often they are abused in terrible ways to breed and sell them and more often than not they have been caught in the wild, killing many in the process. They cannot be domesticated, they will bite, destroy things, be unhappy and unhealthy. Most will die, be killed or abandoned.

So please dont get primates, racoons, fennecs, foxes and others. To have a good idea of what species can be kept both Belgium and the Netherlands have good "positive lists" for pets.

Yes! Also, a quick reminder since the holidays are coming up: buying a pet should be something that is well thought over, NOT a spur of the moment gift! 😊

Axolotls! Amazingly hardy and entertaining. They recognize faces and seek out interaction. (They like it when my dog watches them, and swim up to the glass.) They are less picky about water conditions than fish, only need to be fed ever couple of days. They can regenerate limbs and even parts of their brains; do not try this at home.

That's so cool! I've seen a lot of memes about axolotls but only a couple videos of people actually having them. That's so cool how they recognize faces! Just imagining one swimming up to the glass for a dog is just so cute.

Rats make excellent pets! They are sweet, loving, and very intelligent! I had a rat once, and I loved her so much. She would give me kisses, sleep in my pocket or on my shoulder, and she loved to play games! I miss her so much.

Goats! Not only the babies but the nannies can be very friendly like dogs.

Hamster.

They are seen as "childrens pets" but they are sweet, smart and funny animals that can be amazung pets. Also they need way more space than stores will tell you (around 80x60cm) so never put them in a comercial cage.

Ball Pythons
Most nonvenomous snakes are way underrated, because some people think that just because their scales are shiny, means that they’re slimy, and even more people are unaware of how many different types of snakes there are that aren’t venomous. For example, I have a piebald ball python named Misfit, she is extremely sweet and everyone in the family loves her. She gets taken out of her enclosure and held at least once a week, and fed once or twice a month now. We’ve had her for roughly a year now, she was our Christmas present last year. I also have five dogs and none of them have problems with her, so if you raise your pets the right way, surely you could welcome a sweet snake into your family? 🐍

Chinchilla's, they are endangered creatures that are the softest animals on the planet. If you think I'm exaggerating, look it up

Same with bettas, but they need a five gallon tank or bigger with a filter and a heater.

Rats! Some people think that they are gross or creepy, but not rats bred for being pets. They are smart, social, and personable. I had a rat and she was amazing, the only very sad thing is they have only a 2-3 year lifespan :(

Cockatiels.

They are not expensive, easy to care for, easy to tame and train, and lots of fun! They are not big talkers like other parrots, but they can be affectionate and loving.
