What doesn’t deserve its popularity? Whether it be a book, movie, way of life, or other trend, I’d love to hear about it!

Influencers. They are not a god
Not even sure if this is a legitimate job title. Seems everything can be done with internet nowadays. What ever happened to good old labor?
1) The expectation that life owes you something.
2) The need to have the very best the very first go. My first car wasn’t what I wanted, it was what I could afford, same with my first rental, my first house, my first job…
3) The belief that your opinion is sacrosanct and that anyone who disagrees with it is “Disrespecting” you.

Beauty standards. Do I need to elaborate?
Goddamn politics. This needs to go away. I don't know what system to replace it but the cult followings and popularity contests it has all devolved into are childish and keeping us as a whole from reaching our potential.
I can imagine a Galactic organization of civilizations occasionally checking in on us - "No, they are nowhere near ready for contact."
Politics is people not hitting each other with rocks and clubs. As bad as it is, there is worse.
music used to be good quality music coming out of the radio now most of the stuff that gets played i have no clue how they got signed to a label let alone make it all the way on the radio
Taylor Swift. I like some of her songs, don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand Swiftie culture. Basically I'm saying I wouldn't stand in line for 3+ hours to get a T Swift concert ticket.
Grading on the curve. Students should be graded on their own accomplishments, their own progress.
There are many places where grading on a curve is appropriate. When picking a surgeon, I want the one who has a 99.97% rate of survival who is graded an "A" on the curve over the surgeon rated a "D" with a 91% survivability rate. That 91% isn't an "A" effort. If doing surgery every day, the first one loses a patient every 9 years. The second one loses a patient about every 12 days (32 a year).
Dark Fantasy.
It completely dominates all media (Game of Thrones in TV, Dark Souls / Elden Ring in gaming, The Witcher in literature) while always using the same rehashed medieval-European settings, the same tropes, the same character archetypes. Plus the authors seem to have a contest about who can create the most bleak, depressing and needlesly violent story ever. Never understood the appeal.
Food. Fancy restaurant food that has flowers or unnecessary garnish. cupcakes with cereal on the icing. Looks pretty, how does it taste?
Medicine advertised on TV
Even worse are dishes that combine really questionable ingredients like "goat liver tartare with a souffle of pickled heirloom tomatoes, kimchi, and brussels sprouts topped with a crumble of truffle-oil infused limburger cheese and crisped plantain skins".
Dining out/ fast food.
It used to be good, but I swear every place just sucks nowadays.
I’ll start, I guess. My biggest pet peeve is this “aesthetic studying” trend. I think it’s great to have cute pens, a clean study space, etc, but honestly, I feel like a lot of study posts nowadays are more focused on the pretty aspect of studying rather than, ya know, being productive and practical. It’s really bad, learning should be about learning, not making cute notes.
I don't know what that is but I'm a more of a I'll do it on the day kinda guy. I read stuff but I never had any fancy study space and I reckon I only ever took notes because everyone else was lol I know teach high school and have led personal development classes for teaching staff on how to better engage at risk students.
Pronouns and Victimhood. Go ahead and downvote me you pigs!
Well, technically everyone has pronouns, even if you're not part of the LGBTQ+ community. They're just parts of speech. If we didn't, it would just be "Matt went to the store with Matt's friend and Matt got some birdseed for Matt's bird feeder..." etc.
Internet. Everything is "use this website, log on here, buy online" blah blah blah. Just a modern trend that I refuse to have anything to do with. You'll not see me using this new fangled internet.
I think I understand, but the internet is a great help for us all, so I assume your irritation comes from the firms who refers to their website for help instead of offering a phonenummer you can call to get what help you want. Or worse insist that you have to ask a chatrobot, who is really hard to get to understand your problem as I usually find out.
Competitive Exams. Like it is a near 1% chance or less that you might clear them on the first attempt. But what about the ambitious ones? On average, an aspirant wastes 3-4 years of the peak of his/her youth studying for an exam. And unfortunately, most, like most, end up pursuing other career pathways because you gotta pay the bills, right?
Owning your home. Sure it can be a good deal and potential wealth builder, in the right place, at the right time, at the right stage of your life. But it can be the wrong choice many other times. Replacing roofs, HVAC, floors etc. is way more expensive than many people are ready for. If your job falls apart, you may be trapped somewhere with limited options. If you have bad neighbors, you may be stuck with them for years. Especially now, any house you buy is probably at the highest price it will be for a long time, and you are competing with a lot of deep pocket investment companies. Don't be in a hurry and feel like you are missing out, if you wait to buy until you can comfortably afford ALL the costs. That time may be never if you live in a major city. I've both owned and rented, and it can be such a relief when you're renting, the furnace goes out and you can say "Not my problem!"
Owning a home is the best way to build wealth. But just like with anything it needs to be within your means.
“Smartphones” and E-scooters.
Honestly I am kind of being a hypocrite because I would like to have a high quality smartphone, but I still hate every type of electric personal transport. Like: if you say you go on a bike ride everyday but it's electric, that doesn't even count. That's cheating.
Life
Life is hard, no doubt about it. But consider what you have, rather than what you don't have. Bad things happen to good people. I've had some really hard times the past 2 years. Mom died. Partner died, left with not enough money to pay rent and bills. That leads to severe depression. But I'm alive. I WILL survive this. Being alive is far better than the alternative. IT ALWAYS IS. Don't let one minute of despair get the best of you. Because YOU ARE the best. We've all been disappointed or disillusioned at times. Believe me, there are some things that will always be out of your control. Fix what you can, what is directly your responsibility. If it's too much to handle, talk to someone. A therapist, a minister or priest, a trusted friend. Take up a hobby you will enjoy. You won't know until you try. If that life gets to be too hard, reach out to someone. You won't regret it. It will get better.
Iron Maiden. To me, all their songs sound the same and there are far better rock and metals bands out there. I would also add that you only need one AC/DC album and that is Back in Black.
Fidgets
Those are to take out stress so it doesn't erupt somewhere else. Now, WHERE IS MY FIDGET?!?!?
90% of this list is just people going "Waaahhhhhh I hate cancel culture and pronouns" Grow up, people. Just grow up.
Mobile phone apps for something a website could do but the company wants you in its walled garden.
Never download something that there's a mobile site for. Bare minimum it's a huge waste of hardrive space. Worse it's WAY more info and tracking than they would've gotten otherwise.
Load More Replies...Alcohol. Its toxic for our body and our mind, but a lot of people believe that it is needed to unwind. "Hey, let's go get a drink after work!" "Why don't you drink, omg, you should try!" I do not mind people who drink, but everything needs measure. Same about smoking.
nah, it's just the same as stock trading but much more volatile. My exwife made about $10 000 on it, myself quite a bit less, but we both still hold it.
Load More Replies...Sports culture Hollywood culture. Where sports stars and Hollywood/TV stars are treated like they're some kinda demi-god.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't see anyone mention a college degree. It seems they don't have the use they used to have.
From my experience it makes it easier to get customer service jobs quickly, but that's about it.
Load More Replies...American-made vehicles. Purchasing any car from an "American" manufacturer is akin to throwing money away. They're poorly engineered, use sub-par components & generally need expensive repairs within two years of purchase.
Lol ford circled the problem with their logo; Ford = found on road dead; or fix or replace daily, Dodge = damned old dusty garbage extractor, there's one for Chevrolet too but I don't recall what it was.
Load More Replies...My wife LOVES it! I can't stand the stuff. I don't want something chewy shot into my mouth when I'm trying to DRINK something! It just seems so counterintuitive to me.
Load More Replies...In China, that would be Justin Bieber. Example: I know a Chinese woman who learned English became an English teacher due to the Beebs. Her English name is Selena, chosen after his last GF
The Office (for those who REALLY do not need to be there, and can work sooper efficiently at home)
Subscriptions. For. Every. Darn. Thing!!!!!! AHHH I hate those!!
Some cities like Milan. Everything overpriced and still rising but quality of social, cultural, wellbeing and life in general that's offered, is on a much lower stair. And the salaries are there, too.
Bitter, angry and aggressive comments people feel somehow entitled to post online. If we are all so focused on self care, kindness and intentional living (eye roll), why is everyone so rude and superior when they post with anonymity? Actually the opposite is almost as bad, "You're so pretty", "You are so smart", "I'm obsessed" (another eye roll). Watch the clip/vid/tt, maybe learn something or not, and then respectfully move on.
There's a difference between offensive humor and just being offensive. Anyone who complains that "people nowadays can't take a joke" are just offensive a******s
