I learned several pangrams growing up but that's the only one I have memorized. When I was taking calligraphy we used that one to practice all the time 😄

I didn't have to do that on the typewriter but by the time I used one of those I had learned on a word processor. I had to do it while learning cursive and doing my calligraphy. I got into that in grade school and picked it back up when dip pens became popular again. Supplies used to be hard to find, thank you world wide web and shopping sites.

I mix mash write too. It's easier for me to do both than to just print or just write cursive. It's also faster for me and I can write pretty fast now days.

My mother had a beautiful handwriting, and mine almost made her cry. On my "good handwriting / caligraphy" workbook in elementary school was a dirty fingerprint and a huge ink-stain. That sais it all. If you can't read it, don't worry, it is German, partly mixed with some english expressions.

I really hated it when so many US public schools stopped having penmanship classes. I was taught from 3rd through 5th grade. So many of my peers have similar strokes.

Am I the only one who has completely different patterns/styles based on the context? Notes to myself are illegible to others, notes for class were tiny and practically shorthand, architectese at work, cursive for when writing to others, and kindergarten teacher when helping my kids, etc.

I feel sorry for most of these people, how have they not learned cursive writing. It´s so much faster.

That depends and it is very often illegible. So I prefer the not cursive (how is that even called in English?). Personally I use a mis of both in normal writing.
