I'm pretty new on Bored Panda, and can't find any info about it, aside from the"about us" blurb on the site.

Like what are these points I'm seeing? How are they important? And how does one accumulate them?

PS to the folks in BP's office: My maternal grandparents are from Lithuania! They escaped at the start of WWI. Pogroms, ya know.

BEWARE!

I have recently found out about an interesting algorithm that Bored Panda operates. If you post a comment and it isn't popular, then people may downvote you. If that single comment racks up ten downvotes then you are automatically banned for a day from commenting - regardless of the content of your comment.

A second offence will result in a five day ban and a third offence may result in a total ban. I found this out when I posted a lame joke about Chris Rock not being funny recently (below). In my experience of this, Bored Panda do not respond to your emails either so there is no appeals process despite Bored Panda claiming to operate one.

All I am saying is, enjoy BP, it is fun and informative and you get to interact with usually really nice people from all over the world. But consider your comments very carefully or you might end up being banned like I was over a lame joke.

I'll let you be judge, here's the comment I got banned for:
"I never realised that he was a comedian. Aren't they supposed to make you laugh though?"

Okay, but that comment is hilarious! I had that same thing happen when I was trying to explain something in a post and got downvoted a lot. Also, did you know that Bored Panda doesn't allow hate speech, according to the community guidelines.

You get points by people upvoting comments you write, or things you publish. People will upvote if they like what you have to say or agree with it or find it funny etc. You can also upvote comments and posts you see for the same reasons.
There are a lot of people on Bored Panda from around the world and it is a really great place for you to listen to new ideas and opinions you may not have heard of or learn from their experiences. You can often find people who have similar opinions or experiences you do and most people are very open and supportive.
