Hey, Pandas! If You Work For A Nonprofit Or A Not So Well Paying Job, Why Do You Stay? (Closed)
I have stated I am a librarian, and even though my salary is not great, I do enjoy discussing all things book with my customers. Sharing literary topics is my nerdy jam. I am learning new things every day and I am actually good enough to be here for the past 15 years.

I’m an adjunct professor at a community college. Other institutions pay double what I make, but I love teaching intro-level courses to students who have often had less-than-ideal high school experiences.
I work in HR/Admin. The pay isn't great but it's enough for me to survive. I stay because jobs are really tough to get and my major is Zoology so that makes it even worse. My work environment isn't exactly toxic (like some past jobs) so I've stayed.
I don't know if this fits but I served on a committee for about 10 years. We were running an amateur football league and at our peak, had around 40-50 teams across five divisions plus three cup competitions. There were various roles within the committee and I did most of them at one time or another.
We didn't get paid except for out-of-pocket expenses like stamps and stationery etc. which we were reimbursed for on production of a receipt.
Why? I did it to 'put something back' into the community as many people had done before me. When I was a kid and growing up, I played in a team in a league just like ours, run by volunteers just like us. So it was my turn really. Someone approached me and it was an easy 'yes'. It felt good, providing a healthy service to young people. I would like to thank all those volunteers before and after me who perhaps don't always get the credit they deserve.
In short, I would recommend it to anyone. There are lots of places recruiting volunteers and whilst you won't get paid, you will enjoy the feel-good factor which money just can't buy.
