You have just won the jackpot in a massive lottery and found yourself one billion dollars richer. What do you do with your money? Buy your dream house or a bunch of expensive stuff? Invest it? Donate? Tell us here!

Donate 3/4 of it to Doctors without borders straight away ....then buy a big estate somewhere, isolated from the rest of humanity..... And maybe an old traditional farmhouse somewhere in rural japan, preferably on Hokkaido, as a holiday home for the summer....
With one billion dollars I'd do the following:
1. Invest 500million so it can keep making returns.
2. I'd take some and make sure my close friends and family (the ones that are nice) are safe and comfortable to enjoy their life.
3. I'd buy a huge farm as an animal rescue and hired all the homeless people and give them jobs and housing.
4. I'd try to help as much people as I can with the remaining money and returns on investments. Our island is 1.5mil people so I'm sure I can at least eradicate hunger and children missing school.
5. I'd travel the world with some really close friends.
6. I don't need any money when I die so I'll leave it all to the organization that runs the rescue.
Host contests for young artists/writers/film-makers and donate a million to the winner each year to be used on their next project.
Build housing and create temporary jobs for underprivileged people and veterans and immigrants...just until they can get on their own feet. Encourage/fund their entrepreneurism.
Also buy a house where I can throw parties for my co-workers and entrepreneurs. Huge parties where we go mattress surfing and play laser-tag and eat donuts.
Oh, I'd also have my own publishing company.
First I would give some to my three kids. Then I'd pay off my house and my mother's. I'd buy a some secluded, off the grid land and build a nice little house to live in. I'd also buy a new vehicle. I haven't had one since 2003. I would also be able to pay for a surgical procedure on my lungs that my US medical insurance will not cover because they don't think it is necessary.
At least one custom Gibson flying v with 24 frets, a house with a big garden, put some money on the side for college, and the rest goes to charity
I would donate a quarter of it and then buy an island paradise for me and build an orphanage.
Quit the day job, work only the 2nd fun job. Buy a house. Take an amazing vacation with family, then another with some friends.
Create trust for my family and their descendants for education, housing, and medical expenses. It would payoff student loans or payout up to a designated amount for completing a degree (the higher the degree the higher the amount), or for trade school. Give them 20% of medium home prices for their area to be used for a down payment. Then never lend them a dime.
Donate to various cancer research, no kill pet recues, environmental preservation and restorations projects.
Keep four million for me (make sure I have a little income). Build the holiday house for families with a terminal cancer patient so they can have one last holiday together. Give nieces and nephews 400K for a house (and my 2 godchildren). Both my brothers get 2 million. Buy a nice house for my mum - ground floor. Top floor is for me when I visit. The rest goes to: Cancer research, ALS, Alzheimer, Parkinson. Maybe put some money in a fund for helping out others with education/little things like presents and clothes for the poor/ tiny houses for homeless. Stuff like that. Knowing me: keeping too much money for myself will make me deeply unhappy. OH and NEVER tell anyone how much I have (had).
Work to get Native American land back. Don't know exactly what that involves, but I always knew that's what I'd do if I ever had got a lot of money.
Give some to friends and family.
Give some to charity.
Travel.
Buy myself a house.
Buy some other houses to give to people who can't afford houses.
Spend anything that's left on expensive stuff I don't need.
Donate 99% and spend the rest of my life with the remaining ten millions in adequate luxury.
I'd use it to pay for university, buy a large house for me and my cats, adopt a child when I would be 30 something, and use the rest to pay off student loan debt for others.
keep a few million for me/family/friends, and give away a million to charities that can use it.
I would…
1) donate 1/4 of it to various charities
2) give some to some family and friends(the ones that I don’t hate for family)
3) get a big house with lots of land, and a farm with lots of animals.
Cat sanctuary. Live in vets. Free service to anyone. Would travel anywhere to pick up unwanted cats and kittens. Offer adoption to qualified homes.
Provide forever home for all others.
Leave enough funds for it to continue after my death.
And buy my son a reliable vehicle, plus what ever he needs. He deserves so much.
Buy a good ukulele, help pay off my parents’ debt, give money to the elementary school by my house (for a new playground, all they have is a jungle gym and a sand pit, they have been raising money for years and years), donate a lot to hospitals and charities, maybe try and buy a big company so I can get more money and keep helping people
Buy modest homes for me and my parents in dream locations, cars for my family, pay off all existing debt. Then invest everything else to live off of for the rest of my life and not work. Would volunteer with various organizations that are important to me and donate to those.
I’d want to donate a whole c**p ton. And then pay for my family’s bills for the rest of their life. Pay for college/university for me and my bro. I just want to see people succeed.
You sound like an amazing person who really cares about others. We could use a lot more people like you!
I'd donate a quarter of it to charity! Not sure what I'd do with the other $999999999.75 though...
#1 Donate a quarter to St. Jude’s and another quarter to further cancer research. #2 Create a savings account for college tuition. Either MIT or Harvard. #3 Purchase a cabin far away from anyone. #4 Invest in stocks. #5 Build a kick-butt gaming pc to mop the floor with 10 year olds.
