Lately I discovered that I have fun wearing make up and painting my fingernails. It's nice to let the girls put it on when we go out and meet before to warm up but I want to learn how I do it myself. How do I start? Last weekend I had mascara, eyeliner and some very light eyeshadow on and I really loved the look. Especially the mascara made my eyes look so pretty and I love the feminine touch it gives me. Just feels good.
What would you recommend to start with. Im a man in the late 30s and never got in touch with make up before. Right now I just want to put it on when we go out partying or on festival weekends. Nothing really showy or extremly colourful, something that you may just notice on the second glance.
What basic products should I buy, are there maybe special products for men, does that even matter? I googled it before and Im not satisfied with the answers I got. So I thought maybe some people with experience can give me some sort of simple advice and tips :)
Thanks

Well I’m 42 and have absolutely no idea what so ever how to apply makeup properly, BUT my 16 year old daughter certainly does and learnt everything she knows from YouTube and the like
Idk about eye liner but my parents bought a pencil one and I hate it. Can't even use it. I use eyeshadow instead. For products to bit I would say like a colored palette like yellow, red, pink. all that and then a neutral colored palette. I only wear light makeup like highlighter, mascara and eyeshadow. but it makes me feel pretty. For mascara I recommend this brand called princess or something? It's really good and adds a lot of volume and it lasts forever. Had it for like over a year but then again I had soccer and never wore it during the season or during marching band.
IF you want eyeliner, use a gel one to begin with, and in a natural color. If you have high cheekbones, place blush on there instead of on the apples of your cheeks. But if you want your face to look softer, place it on the apples of your cheeks. See what works for your skin tone. I myself look best with warm colors
I would go to Walmart and start picking out some products you think you might like, and experimenting with them. The products aren’t that expensive there, so if you don’t like something, it’s okay. I do buy dollar store makeup at times, but the ingredients are incredibly harmful for you, so I don’t recommend. If you go to Ulta, which is much more expensive, the workers can help you find products that you might like and would fit what you’re looking for.
If you feel your eyeshadow isn’t vibrant enough, especially if you’re buying cheaper products, put concealer on first. Google can help you find shades that work best with your skin tone and eye color as well. If you want to use foundation and feel that you’re sweating through it, especially when partying as you said, use a primer first. Maybelline makes a really good primer and it’s not expensive. Foundation just evens your skin tone, so it’s not necessary, but if you want to use it, match it to your neck, not your hand. I typically go slightly darker than my neck and blend it into it. The mall typically has (not sure what your local covid restrictions are) people who will do your makeup for free, and they’ll help you find your shade. For lipstick, matte liquid lipstick typically doesn’t smear or transfer, so that’s my best choice because it stays on all day without fail. For mascara, I like Rimmel scandal eyes or Too Faced better than sex because they give length and volume. To make sure you don’t have “spider eyes”, wiggle the mascara as you apply it, it’ll help fan out your lashes. Contour and highlight is a more advanced step, but if you want to try it, I’d start with powder ones because they’re easier to learn with and fix if you use too much. I’m not sure if you’re looking to wing your eyeliner, but if so, you want to apply it higher than you would think, because when you look straight, it can look f****d up otherwise. There’s some great tutorials on google and YouTube for that. With or without a wing, apply it as close as possible to your lash line and make sure it doesn’t look too thick. If you feel your lashes don’t look as nice with eyeliner on, you can try false eyelashes; they do make some that are very light and non noticeable that they’re fake, you don’t have to have the huge ones.
And most importantly, always moisturize. This is more skin care than makeup, but it’ll help both your skin and makeup look better. And when you’re 60, you’ll thank yourself for using it.
I do t wear makeup that much, but I suggest that you start putting on light pink lipstick and blush. Don’t try to put on too much and make yourself look like a different person—enhance your natural beauty!
