I fully support people having their own political views, it is a basic human right to hold any view a person has. What I do not support are people who regurgitate the propaganda they have been told without any idea of knowing what they are talking about. There is a shortage of people who think for themselves, who will spend the time to reflect on any subject regardless of what public opinion tells them.
I got off ALL social and other media if possible. I chose to try to ignore the hate and ignorance.
I try to ask them questions that make them doubt their ideas, without saying my opinion
In most circles I travel in, there is a unwritten 'NO Politics' rule. So when it happens, simply because I'm an A-hole, I like to argue with them.
It doesn't matter what side you're on or what I truly believe, I will argue against you.
As I'm not emotionally invested in, well... anything, it means I'm immune to political rhetoric and fervour.
The more longer it goes on, the more completely bizarre my arguments will become. I'd will make a conspiracy theorist's mind blow with the s**t I will make up. I will make up laws and events that don't exist and blame it on their party. Such as 'What about that law that requires every cat owner to always have have at least one fresh cucumber when visitors are around, in case the cat attacks them! Your lot passed that law when they were last in power, instead of the law that was going to help [insert something they clearly care about]!'
I'm neither left wing or right wing. All my political opinions are based on perceived logic and what I think makes sense for a better society/nation/world.
I'll start. I picked up a trick in Customer Service: Smile nod. Pretend to agree with even their most insane and irrational points. Then just walk away.
With strangers I usually just walk away. With my parents (the only offenders of the no politics rule) After asking repeatedly not to talk about politics I now stare over their shoulder up and to the left until they stop talking. It totally freaks them out
I treat them like drunk people rambling. I just smile and nod until they start going down a discriminatory or conspiracy theory route.
Just tell them you have absolutely no interest in politics but would love to have a conversation about dogs.
Start doing little stretching exercises while you glance around the room.
By, hear me out, ignoring politics. I tune it out so I don’t get stressed over it. I have my opinions on who I like but I don’t open up about it.
I complain about it every now and then, within my inner circle of friends and family, but I pretty much just have to deal with it. Though, once I'm 16 I'm contemplating vandalizing my neighbor's sign that says, "TRUMP 2024 TAKE AMERICA BACK". In the end, I think people will do the right thing. At least, that's what I'm banking on.
Oooo these people are always fun. Each side has their own views that have absolutely no logic and truth behind it. So I immediately strike up a conversation based on those views and just continually bring up the opposing points of truth and logic. Eventually they just burst into flames.
