Music and other trends, hypes like TikTok, movies? Or physical signs? Why and how did you start to think you're starting to get old?

Well, this is an interesting question. You see I will be 70 in December of this year so; I am definitely OLD! So, let's see, I began to feel old last year when I realized I needed something to sit on when working in my garden. Getting up from sitting on the ground has gotten difficult. Now I do not sit on the ground without a plan on how I am going to get up! There have been lots of reminders that I have been heading towards being old over the years. I graduated high school in 1970 (I think, it's been a long time you see) and have watched the music I enjoyed back then become classics. I have watches new technology come along. When I was a girl there was no color TV (no remotes either), computers, we only had party line phone lines and dial phones, (ours was on the wall in the kitchen). I remember a car my dad bought for $300 brand new! We rented our house for $50 a month. Now all that's changed. So, I guess over the years there have been lots of signs, but I have been ignoring them.
The fact that you're sharing this on bored panda makes me very impressed along with all the other things. You remind me of my grandma who recently passed in December. She was 81
During training sessions at job when I asked the new hires their DOB's.... Realised I was a kid or teenager when they were born 😱
To answer my own question:
When I talked to my students about watching LOTR in cinema. Many didn't even know it and others called it an "old movie". Well damn... I didn't even dare to bring up my favourite movie "Smokey And The Bandit" from 1977, a movie that I grew up with.
On the plus-side: My students keep me up-to-date with the latest trends, apps, technology and so on. Even though I mostly can't share the excitement.
Also: Bruises don't fully go away anymore. And even the smallest cut leads to a scar.
Man, I wish I could have seen LoTR at the theatre for the first time.😍 It's not old. It's timeless.
When I realised it's odd to go to a park as an adult only for swings.
I love the swings and if I find one with out any kids playing on it I will have a quick swing.
When I song you loved in High School is played on the Oldies station.
When I started groaning when I bent down to pick something off the floor. Suddenly the floor seems a long way away.
Last year I realized that the only new music I like is Nirvana and The Black Eyed Peas.
not me, but my son... he came home and told me he was getting old because he was at a stoplight and the car next to him was full of young (he's 29) kids. they had their music loud. he wanted to yell at them to turn it down. he was them 5 years ago.
When I discovered my " weather knee" every time it's going to rain/snow then here comes the pain
When I realised I bend down to pick something off the floor in a very ungainly manner, just like my mum.
I don't know if it's getting old or unaddressed health problems from when I was much younger...I find myself shopping for a back brace and a posture corrector for scoliosis and degenerative disc disease and scoliosis.
I've been working in an alternative school for at risk teens. Only in the last year or so have I not understood the music. I've always found something I like in most the genre's but Drill rap makes me feel old! I don't understand it, it sounds like shite, theyre all poseurs and the beat is rubbish. So yeah, drill rap made me old
When I have to spin or click for 5mins to get to the year I was born on, online forms and stuff
Ok...I might not be too old for some ppl. I am gonna hit 18 by the end of this year. But I feel OLD. I don't even feel like I lived through 2019 to 2023...it feels like time just skipped. Its like yesterday I was 15 and laughing with my friends but now I am gonna enter the new world of adulthood. Honestly I am a little bit scared.
YES! Like, where did the time go? All of a sudden everyone expects things of me.🤣
when i hear people calling the xbox 360 antique but its only 2 years older than me.....
Commodore 64, you put the tape in and go play outside for 8hrs then maybe your game was loaded if it didn't crash
When you see a little kid and ask what grade they're in and they say "8th."
8th grade was so big.😭
In 2019 I sat down wrong on a backpacking trip. I still feel it at some point every day. So, sometime between then and right now. Thanks.
Yesterday I saw a meme that said something about changing “years” to “levels” when talking about how old you are, as in “Level 43” sounds more badda*s than being 43 years old like some old person. 43 is old!? I’m older than 43, but I’m not old!? Am I? UGH!!! LOL
I'm now going to follow you based on this comment because I spat my beer lol
2013 Working at a bank and a kid came in to open an account. ID said he was born in 1993. I told him he had to be 18 to open an account without a parent. He stared at me….I stared at him….and then I realized. I thought OMG. I REMEMBER 1993…..like really well. How the #ell was that 20 years ago!!!???? Now, 10 years later, still can’t figure out how I can remember things that happened over THIRTY years ago!
When my body told me so. Fortunately I don’t look or act old. Btw, I am staring at 50 in the eyes.
Same same same, and I'll be 53 this year. I don't know how? I mean I just graduated high school a few years ago. 🙃😁
For me it was waking up in pain and seeing my first white hair.
When u can't have too much sweet anymore.
When u realise it's time to have children and u are a child yourself.
I'm 46 and going through perimenopause - no kids, never wanted them. "It's time to have kids" is a societal construct, something you're pressured into. You don't have to. Ever. Unless, of course, you want to. And then as long as you're able you can.
I'm 22 and I feel like I belong in the 1950s
Sleep hurts me.
Actual sleep. I mean, I've been an insomniac all my life but now sleeping on my favorite side cramps my arm and hip; sleeping on the other strains an old injury (tore the muscles off my rib cage). Sleeping upright like I started to do a few years back to reduce headaches, hurts my sciatica as well as a few other issues.
I just want my limited, 3 or 4 hour long sleeps back ;_;
After reading comments from people in their 40's & 50's about being old . . . I'm in my 70's . . . pretechnological revolution generation.
Before the age of 50, I could still honestly say, that age is just a number. However, as I'm nearing the 60 year mark, it's definitely not just a number. I feel differently both physically and mentally.
