So I was born and grew up in India for 5 years and then moved to America. So my skin is tinted brown (👩🏾) so someone I was walking and someone builds past me and screamed “Go back to your country!” So I only had a minute so I screamed back “I’m Native American, I was here before you!” I’m not Native American though, I’m Indian. Indian-Indian, not American Indian, though I could pass for either. I just feel like I shouldn’t have lied, but I only had time for one quick reply since he was biking away. I can’t decide on whether I should have said that, it felt like the shortest reply that might make a bit of sense hit him.

As a native American, enrolled tribal member. This isn't cool. I fully understand your thinking tho. And in the heat if the moment judgement goes out the window. Live and learn. Yes it was a mistake but by posting this you seem like a good smart person. I hope you comment put the jerk in their place. Like I said. Live and learn. Racism sucks so much and I'm sorry that this happened to you.
You made a mistake and you seem to have learned from it. It’s understandable why you lied although It’s not so good to lie, but more importantly there is nothing to be ashamed or feel the need to lie about being Indian. Racist people are not worth the time or energy. I think it’s very cool that you are able to have both nationalities (Indian and American) to be your own! And if being in the US to make a life for yourselves is your families choice, then there’s nothing more American than that.
