Sk8 for Gr8 is a Social Enterpise based in Woodstock South Africa that pairs up kids with designers to expose them to the world of design.
They run workshops where they host various speakers and explore the process of design. Each kid is paired with a mentor who happens to be a designer. At the end of the workshops the designers are then tasked with creating a child-inspired skateboard deck design. The originals are auctioned off to raise money to feed into the education and the development of the kids and the prints (both on decks and actual prints themselves) are sold to help create a self-sustaining project.
It is amazing to see the community hop on board and especially another local business, Pedersen + Lennard. They have recently been chosen for a competition, Superbalist100, where they stand the chance to win 100k if they come first.
BUT there is a twist. They have said that if they place first, they will donate 50k to Sk8 for Gr8. What a beautiful picture of community helping each other out.
With this money, Sk8 for Gr8 has the chance to really make an impact on the youth of South Africa.
You can help them out by upvoting Pedersen + Lennard. You can go to this link, http://bit.ly/2cdR7CG and vote vote vote.
Every vote counts and you can vote everyday until the 17th of October.
Let’s support Sk8 for Gr8. Let’s support P+L. Let’s make a difference.

About Sk8 for Gr8 Workshops
We are a skate brand that creates its innovative products through a progressive mentoring initiative that pairs artists with kids to mentor them in design-thinking. Every board is child-inspired and has its own story.
Joyous Mess
This piece was created by Justin South and it was inspired by a kid from Woodstock, Enrique.
Enrique seems to be at a really impressionable age. Perhaps not always inspired by the best role models, yet there is a great potential in him. He is very shy, not always wanting to speak up, but Sk8 for Gr8 values that he will discover the power of individuality and that loudness is not necessarily always a strength.
Justin made this illustration to compliment where he is at – as a view of his potential. A bold colourful mix of people and animals all thrown together in a joyous mess of individuality. He hopes that this board will infuse a sense of self-worth, identity and boldness into Enrique, and that he will feel special.
