Artist Created 3 Emotional Comics About Life With A Cat And A Dog Inspired By His Personal Experiences

A few years ago, we shared two stories by Ademar Vieira about “The cat” and “The choice” that went viral. Since that time, the artist has created 3 more narratives called “Match”, “This Place is Mine” and “Dog Home Office” that, as you might have guessed, further explore the main character’s, Sam’s, life with a cat named Edgar and a dog named Oscar.

Ademar’s illustrations are like short films that, as the artist put it himself, “tell stories about life, loaded with emotion, criticism, and some twists and turns.” The artist has the power to thrill the hearts of many people without using a single word and these new silent narratives are a great example of that.

Besides the stories mentioned above, Bored Panda has also published Ademar’s other works that touch on more serious topics related to our society. You can find them by clicking here, here and here.

“Missing a relationship, Sam has installed a dating app and he has high hopes of finding his perfect match. But, of course, for the relationship to work, the dog Oscar and the cat, Edgar, also need to be accepted.”

Ademar’s first comic strip featuring pets, “The Choice”, to his surprise, went around the world at the speed of light. A lot of people could relate to the story. So the artist decided to continue creating silent narratives about Sam’s life with Oscar and Edgar.

As Ademar has explained, the characters of Oscar And Edgar were inspired by his dogs Zelda and Garoto, and a pussycat, Gata-Fera.

The idea for “The Choice” came from Ademar’s personal experience. “During the quarantine, I realized that every time I was sad or anxious or having bad thoughts, my dogs would bring me back to the present and show me how it’s possible to stay cheerful, focusing on small things like a game or a nap or the simple and sincere love of a dog. It moved me every time I thought about it because in their purity they were totally oblivious to the pandemic and focused on the simplest things in life. When I came up with the idea to create that comic, it took me a while to draw it because I thought it was not one of the best ideas I had.”

Ademar told us that he likes to think that we, humans, don’t own the planet. “We just share the planet with other species and I think the close contact with pets makes us realize that. I think that those who love animals have a greater ability to understand many other problems such as environmental ones.”

Unfortunately, the artist doesn’t live with his pets anymore. In 2021, he had to leave the house that he shared with his then-wife, and today she is the one who takes care of them. “I miss them so much because now I’m in another country (Argentina) and I only get to see them once a year.”
