I Found That Many Articles About Coronaviruses Were Difficult To Digest, So I Made An Easy Infocomic (17 Pics)

This is the first comic about the coronavirus that I published.

In January, I was on sick leave for three weeks due to a respiratory illness. While I was ill, I spent a lot of time researching respiratory illnesses. At that time, news about the COVID-19 had just broken. As an illustrator, I made a summary of what I’ve learned about coronaviruses in general. I found that many informative articles about the topic were difficult to digest, so I tried to simplify the comic as much as possible so that they would be understandable even for children.

I have also made the comic available as an infographic—feel free to download and print them as posters. With the help of many individuals, this comic has been translated into multiple languages as well! If you would like to help as a translator, please email me at comicsforgood@gmail.com.

Stay tuned for my follow-up comics about the coronavirus and how to exercise precaution!

My name is Violeta and I am an editor here at Bored Panda. I love reading memes for a living. It’s obviously much more than that, but I appreciate the variety of topics, information, and pics I get to see every day and share with the world! Those funny memes really make my day too. Being born in the ’90s in post-Soviet Lithuania speaks more about me than I’d like to admit. I’m still learning about the world and myself, but I do love my friends, traveling, art, and my cat. My favorite fact to share about myself is that I used to hide meatballs in my friend’s pockets at lunch so I could go play outside. I wish all those meatballs could find their way back to me someday.

Plus people unwittingly put them down on restaurant tables and chairs that may have not had the best cleaning in the world. Once you pic up the phone and use it..you then touch your face. Oops.

Thing is, these things should all be common sense and part of your daily, possibly even hourly routine, NORMAL things EVERYONE does ALL THE TIME. The fact we have to tell grown-a*s adults to wash their god damn hands is outrageous.

To put a long story short: living in a big city, using public transport, working somewhere with people around and being forced to go shopping once in a while, you can't avoid it anyway. Yes, it's a very serious disease and we all have to act reasonably but please stop all the panic. Yesterday I wanted to buy water and toilet paper and didn't get any of it. That's just weird.

Yeeehh There are some facts wrong with those comics. 1. If you're healthy and show no symptoms - DONT wear masks. Since everyone went panic mode and bought a shitton of those things, the people who REALLY need them (such as cancer patients for example) do not have them anymore. 2. Masks in general do not hold "a day". They are effective for 2 hours, after that they are useless. 3. Elderly and allready sick people are in danger the most. People under 39 years old shouldn't worry too much (Death ratio under 39 is 0.2%) 4. The first traces of the Virus go back to MARCH 2019. One year ago - It didnt just spread the exact moment it was discovered. It probably spread months and months ago. Remember 4 months ago when you didnt get paranoia because someone sneezed? See... Stay calm.

This is not a good practice in routine life. However, recent corona virus threat has lead many of us to try something which we never put in day to day practice. With only a 6 cases in my part of world, people and administration has started panicking like anything. It is just a matter of self precautionary steps to prevent such infections. https://alaskasworld.club

Weiman, wouldn't it be better if this virus (and all previous ones ) never came to existence ? Why didn't you include in your comic why and how did Covid-19 originated? We know that in China (and all East Asian countries) people have a good appetite for "exotic" meat, that these deadly viruses originate in "wet" meat markets, where frightened, suffering animals are crammed in small cages and heinously tortured and brutally murdered (it is believed that those poor animals, including dogs and cats, "must" be tortured before slaughter so the meat would taste better). It is simply evil!! It's not just live animal markets that pose a public health menace. Factory farming and the slaughter industry have been linked to emergence and spread of whole host of threats, including antibiotic-resistant bacteria, egg-born Salmonella, mad cow disease, and dangerous strains of influenza. Why not write and draw that? After all, this nightmare could be easily avoided - just have a compassion!!!!

I can't... I live in country where so many people have no concience at all. The litter and toss cigarette butts everywhere and they never ever use tissue when they are sick and coughing and sneezing in public area. I usually wrap my head in thick scarf when I am in public transport but even that doesn't feel helpfull. So many people coughing and sneezing around me so carelessly in the air. It's not just corona, I have chronic illness and I should not get sick, especially get fever. But no one cares. They just don't want to spend like 10cents on pack of paper tissues. It's really disgusting and I don't understand how no one can see that. And that is why there will be epidemics here.

You can complain here, or you could start using your own car or anything of that sort. "But no one cares" - you sound almost as if you think it's up to them to make you feel comfortable/included/safe/whatever. Not to mention, I imagine this is pretty common in most countries during winter (you should visit Japan, using tissue in public is considered rude => in public transport, everybody is coughing/sniffing)

And it is unconscionably painful problem for those heinously tortured and murdered animals. There is 8.7 billion people on this planet. These (not all) eat more than one million animals EVERY hour, so adding to 8.7 billion of people there are billions upon billions of animals raised for food - more than 300 brutally slaughtered EVERY SECOND!! How can our planet to sustain it? It cannot!!! This is why these deadly viruses exist. Corona virus - is NOT the last one. Do you get it??

I just don't Think that Corona Virus is worth the Panic. Obviously, the Deaths are Tragedies, but many many other Causes of Death are more Devastating. A few Examples- Heart Disease, Topsoil Depletion leading to Starvation, Buildup of Heavy Metals in the Food Chain, Antibiotic Resistance; yet none of these receive the Fear mongering and Attention the Corona Virus does.

I agree it's no reason for panic (so violence and racism is not justified), but careful measures should be taken. Rational careful measures. I'm in Korea and that's how we do it here. Trying not to panic, but taking these measures.

According to everything I've read, face masks won't protect you from the virus...

They will protect others from you, though. And you may be infected without actually being sick, so without knowing, and sadly, not everyone has a strong immune system.
