The church in the Czech Republic was abandoned by the faithful in the 1960s. But tourists have been enthusiastic about it ever since, thanks to the terrifying spirits sitting among the rows of benches. An abandoned, crumbling church is already a creepy sight in itself – not to mention when an artist chooses to turbo-charge the atmosphere a bit and plant ghosts among the rows of benches.

The church belongs to the small Czech village of Luková, whose Christian devotees enthusiastically attended the services held here until an accident, which they considered supernatural, took place. The inhabitants of the village are extremely superstitious – so they did not consider it a very good sign that the ceiling of the church had fallen during a funeral. Luckily, no one was injured in the accident, but everyone thought it was an evil deed, so after the 1968 collapse, no one put their foot in the holy place again.
Originally dedicated to St. George, the church stood empty for decades, its walls began to decay, providing a creepy sight. Going up the wooden platforms was life-threatening for a long time, and entering the building is still not safe – even though a local artist saw the imagination on the spot and erected spooky statues between the benches.
Jakub Hadrava thought he would not let the temple become waste, so he created a group of hooded, veiled ghosts from plaster. He thought that was how he could draw attention to the beauty of the church – and his idea had succeeded several times. From the donations of tourists, the special building was somewhat tidied up.
