Angry Mom Accidentally Texts 35-Year-Old Guy Instead Of Her Daughter, And Things Escalate Quickly
A 35-year-old man from Wisconsin was enjoying his day off from work recently when a text suddenly appeared in his inbox. “Hunny please grab milk and lunch meet on your way home,” read the message. Given that the man, who goes by the name of velakskin, was already at home, and given that he didn’t recognize the number, he figured that the sender had obviously contacted the wrong person. Despite repeatedly trying to convince them of this however, the sender refused to believe that they weren’t talking to Jess, their own 18-year-old daughter. And as you can see below, things escalated pretty quickly…

Now you're getting it. Also, it doesn't make sense that anyone wouldn't bother to check the number after being told repeatedly that it's the wrong number, and even after getting a picture of the other person. Nobody is actually that thick. Even if you were super thick, you would at least look to see if you made a mistake. Instead of checking the number, you're going to ask your daughter if she's on drugs? You're going to tell your own daughter how old she's supposed to be? You're going to cancel her credit card? You're going to do all of that crazy stuff, but not even make sure that it's actually your daughter? It's not that the mother is acting like a stupid person, or an unreasonable person, it's that she isn't even acting like a real, believable person. Because she isn't one.

This happened to me recently. Some random number asked me when i was joining the family in Puerto Rico for Christmas. He was certain I was his sister messing with him until, presumably, the actual sister arrived for the holiday. We still occasionally send one another a text to say hi. He's in my phone as Wrong Number. I doubt this guy and Jess's mom will be pen pals after this, though.

The SAME exact thing happened to me, but the other person led me on for awhile. I was upstairs sleeping, having been on call all night. My daughter downstairs on a Sunday morning. She had come into the room and woken the dogs up in their crates. I texted her iPad to come back up now and let the dogs out. She replied "rude" and I got angry and told her to "come now". She said, just a min and a few other things. I finally jumped up and went down stairs yelling at her to hand me her phone. She tried to protest, but I wouldn't listen and gave her a tongue lashing for a few minutes, before she could say "it wasn't me!" It was her iPad number and I thought it was hacked. I went to the AT&T store and found somehow her number was deactivated and given to someone else. The guy from the store called the number and verified it was someone else. That night, they texted me again saying they had missed my call. I apologized for the mistake and the other person said I was a good mother.

I had that too! I accidentally typed in a friends number incorrectly. I switched two numbers. I texted my "mate". For the next 6 months, I got phone calls from some crazy, drunk a*s, bogan lady, claiming that I'm the one who's sleeping with her husband, whilst calling me a dirty s**t and threatening to kick me in the downstairs area. I tried to reason with the woman, telling her that I had texted his number by mistake. She would not accept it, she continued threatening me until I changed my number. I was 21 at the time.

I made a call one evening, to my daughter. She didn't answer the phone, so I left a voice message. "Do you know where your daughter is?" It was 2am, and her 2 year old daughter had just rung my doorbell. We lived in the same apartment complex. The next day, I got a phone call from a woman who asked timidly, "Why did you leave me that message, last night?" It turned out that I had the wrong number, and this poor lady's infant daughter had died, not long before. She was just so heart broken, still, and I felt awful. I told her that it's my opinion that there are reasons for everything in this world, and that I think my having left that message in error, was to give me a chance to talk with her. We talked for over an hour, and it is my hope that she did get some benefit from it. I think of her often. Accidents are sometimes as important as intentional actions.

Some people are just stupid. My mom got calls for months from the same woman, saying she didn't need to come clean her house. My mom always told the lady she had the wrong number but she keep on calling her, sometimes in the middle of the night. After 5 months she finally stopped.

Imagine if this was an emergency situation... if her daughter was kidnapped and the only call she got off to ask for help was to her mom. She wouldn't have believed her. My take on the situation: I don't ENTIRELY blame the mom. If there was a recent death in the family, it probably has her messed up. Obviously her daughter has used drugs and mom has a tough time. Her daughter may even prank her sometimes. I definitely don't blame Poor Jess, obviously. I don't even blame the guy. I mean, she wouldn't take his word for it. I don't blame him for not calling, either. If she suddenly got a call from a strange man I think she would be more creeped out than understanding. All in all, I don't really blame anyone up to that point but three things-- she should apologize to the guy and Jess because neither of them was at fault, she needs to explain to Brad's parents, and they need family counseling. She should consider this a wake up call. I'm glad he posted this because something a bit similar but smaller scale happened to me.

Verizon and T mobile can suspend accounts for harassing or mis used texting. All you have to do is put in the number whom bothered you and you can show them the texts. In this case he was in patient spirits until crack mom when off who the hell spells lunch meet when it is supposed to be lunch meat. Any ways I praise him for being a good sport. Oh, my gosh. The SAME exact thing happened to me, but the other person led me on for awhile. I was upstairs sleeping, having been on call all night. My daughter downstairs on a Sunday morning. She had come into the room and woken the dogs up in their crates. I texted her iPad to come back up now and let the dogs out. She replied "rude" and I got angry and told her to "come now". She said, just a min and a few other things. I finally jumped up and went down stairs yelling at her to hand me her phone. She tried to protest, but I wouldn't listen and gave her a tongue lashing for a few minutes, before she could say "it wasn't me!" It was her iPad number and I thought it was hacked. I went to the AT&T store and found somehow her number was deactivated and given to someone else. The guy from the store called the number and verified it was someone else. That night, they texted me again saying they had missed my call. I apologized for the mistake and the other person said I was a good mother.

I believe the behavior of this mother is ridiculous... Why a parent in such dis belief wouldn't just call instead of texting is not of good example if getting to the bottom of things. Instead of being a responsible adult/parent she uses a "gaslighting" technique to belittle her daughter and using an approach that is fear based..... This women shows no compassion or awearness. Then again once she found out it wasn't her daughter, she uses the same fear based, rude gaslighting technique to try and belittle this man who's was kindly speaking the truth from the beginning. To Jess's mother.... I believe you are the problem and are the one that will have struggled changing for the better.....or most likely will not change... It really disappoints how unwilling people are to engage some basic critical thinking, and are seemingly far more willing to create hate figures to take their frustration out on. There are two possible explanations as to what happened here. 1. A mother, over a three hour period fails to use a few seconds to check if she actually has the right number for her daughter, after being repeatedly told she doesn't. This same mother also inexplicably chooses to key in the number manually each time she texts her daughter rather than just save it in her contacts. 2. This is set up and scripted, in one of the easiest and most low budget ways to stage anything, in order to make clickbait (which I shamefully fell for :-) Both are technically plausible, but explanation 2 is by far the most likely, and the only reasonable choice for a person with any semblance of rationality.

The only leeway I give this lady is that in the end she says " my mother died last week " Death can make people crazy. It can affect people in strange ways. They can act way out of character, change in personality and be angry and even vicious towards innocent bystanders because they are still in a first stage of grief and shock and ANGER... That's the only sense I can make of the whole train wreck of a conversation. The Dude wasn't necessarily patient.. he was enjoying it a bit, I think more than mildly amused if it truly happened.

She took to canceling her cc, calling her BF, and all sorts of threats before even thinking to call the number to see if, indeed, it was the wrong number. What is more interesting than the fake texts is how opinionated everyone seems to be in their comments about the fictional characters portrayed. Does it not seem obvious? 1. The mother would have her daughter in contacts and would not enter her number. 2. Any normal person would check the number after they are told it's the wrong number. Even someone who was super thick would at least CHECK the number after they've been told three times and get a text with a picture of the other person. 3. The mother's conversation with Jess is not believable. It's almost as if someone wrote it to sound funny and/or provocative, isn't it? Instead of checking the number, she is asking her daughter if she is on drugs. Instead of checking the number, she is telling her own daughter how old she is supposed to be. Instead of checking the number, she is going to cancel her daughter's credit card, which is way more trouble than JUST CHECKING THE NUMBER.

I think it's believable. I had 4 teenage daughter's at the same time and I'm sure I lost my cool with them occasionally and I guess I'm old school because I still dial my kids' numbers even though they are saved in my phone.

Not really believable. 99.99% of people would check the number and see that they made a mistake after someone tells them that they have the wrong number. The other 0.01% would probably check after they've been told two or three times and/or have pictures of another person being texted to them.

Why wouldn't she have her daughter's number saved in her contacts? Or have a chat history with her on her phone which she opens for texting her daughter. How is this even possible in the days of cell phones where everyone's number is programmed into your phone and no one remembers numbers anymore? With that being said, If it is true and not just for entertainment purposes, this guy is a saint for entertaining it as long as he did. Maybe I get bored too easy but I would have blocked her. You know most posters here are completely overlooking the key component as to how this ( as most of you are calling it) "stupidity". It all made sense once the lady typed that her mother died the week prior. Hello people of no compassion.... She clearly was not in the right frame of mind but who are we to judge. Maybe the drath was tragic or highly unexpected, maybe it was some sort of horrific accident; we have no idea but as soon as she mentioned that her mother just died the 35 year old giy should have felt compassion and realized her vulnerability rather than capitolize on it by making an internet joke of it. Death typically clouds people's ability to think clearly for more than a day or two; it can take weeks or longer for different people. This is a prime example of how we overlook human error and lack compassion because we are too busy being cynical in our superiority. I too thought this lady was a bit high strung and absent minded but once I read that line I knew why.

I had some girl text me once asking me to help with baby shower invites with an elephant on them. I guess her cousin who she thought I was did graphic work. At work, so I had my handy dandy post-it notes so I drew an elephant taking a s**t and sent her a picture which she loved. Also, it doesn't make sense that anyone wouldn't bother to check the number after being told repeatedly that it's the wrong number, and even after getting a picture of the other person. Nobody is actually that thick. Even if you were super thick, you would at least look to see if you made a mistake. Instead of checking the number, you're going to ask your daughter if she's on drugs? This happened to me recently. Some random number asked me when i was joining the family in Puerto Rico for Christmas. He was certain I was his sister messing with him until, presumably, the actual sister arrived for the holiday. We still occasionally send one another a text to say hi. He's in my phone as Wrong Number. I doubt this guy and Jess's mom will be pen pals after this, though.

The SAME exact thing happened to me, but the other person led me on for awhile. I was upstairs sleeping, having been on call all night. My daughter downstairs on a Sunday morning. She had come into the room and woken the dogs up in their crates. I texted her iPad to come back up now and let the dogs out. She replied "rude" and I got angry and told her to "come now". She said, just a min and a few other things. I finally jumped up and went down stairs yelling at her to hand me her phone. She tried to protest, but I wouldn't listen and gave her a tongue lashing for a few minutes, before she could say "it wasn't me!" It was her iPad number and I thought it was hacked. I went to the AT&T store and found somehow her number was deactivated and given to someone else. The guy from the store called the number and verified it was someone else. That night, they texted me again saying they had missed my call. I apologized for the mistake and the other person said I was a good mother.

I had that too! I accidentally typed in a friends number incorrectly. I switched two numbers. I texted my "mate". For the next 6 months, I got phone calls from some crazy, drunk a*s, bogan lady, claiming that I'm the one who's sleeping with her husband, whilst calling me a dirty s**t and threatening to kick me in the downstairs area. I tried to reason with the woman, telling her that I had texted his number by mistake. She would not accept it, she continued threatening me until I changed my number. I was 21 at the time.

I made a call one evening, to my daughter. She didn't answer the phone, so I left a voice message. "Do you know where your daughter is?" It was 2am, and her 2 year old daughter had just rung my doorbell. We lived in the same apartment complex. The next day, I got a phone call from a woman who asked timidly, "Why did you leave me that message, last night?" It turned out that I had the wrong number, and this poor lady's infant daughter had died, not long before. She was just so heart broken, still, and I felt awful. I told her that it's my opinion that there are reasons for everything in this world, and that I think my having left that message in error, was to give me a chance to talk with her. We talked for over an hour, and it is my hope that she did get some benefit from it. I think of her often. Accidents are sometimes as important as intentional actions.

My take on the situation: I don't ENTIRELY blame the mom. If there was a recent death in the family, it probably has her messed up. Obviously her daughter has used drugs and mom has a tough time. Her daughter may even prank her sometimes. I definitely don't blame Poor Jess, obviously. I don't even blame the guy. I mean, she wouldn't take his word for it. I don't blame him for not calling, either. If she suddenly got a call from a strange man I think she would be more creeped out than understanding. All in all, I don't really blame anyone up to that point but three things-- she should apologize to the guy and Jess because neither of them was at fault, she needs to explain to Brad's parents, and they need family counseling. She should consider this a wake up call. I'm glad he posted this because something a bit similar but smaller scale happened to me.

Verizon and T mobile can suspend accounts for harassing or mis used texting. All you have to do is put in the number whom bothered you and you can show them the texts. Oh, my gosh. The SAME exact thing happened to me, but the other person led me on for awhile. I was upstairs sleeping, having been on call all night. My daughter downstairs on a Sunday morning. She had come into the room and woken the dogs up in their crates. I texted her iPad to come back up now and let the dogs out. She replied "rude" and I got angry and told her to "come now". She said, just a min and a few other things. I finally jumped up and went down stairs yelling at her to hand me her phone. She tried to protest, but I wouldn't listen and gave her a tongue lashing for a few minutes, before she could say "it wasn't me!" It was her iPad number and I thought it was hacked. I went to the AT&T store and found somehow her number was deactivated and given to someone else. The guy from the store called the number and verified it was someone else. That night, they texted me again saying they had missed my call. I apologized for the mistake and the other person said I was a good mother.

I believe the behavior of this mother is ridiculous... Why a parent in such dis belief wouldn't just call instead of texting is not of good example if getting to the bottom of things. Instead of being a responsible adult/parent she uses a "gaslighting" technique to belittle her daughter and using an approach that is fear based..... This women shows no compassion or awearness. Then again once she found out it wasn't her daughter, she uses the same fear based, rude gaslighting technique to try and belittle this man who's was kindly speaking the truth from the beginning. To Jess's mother.... I believe you are the problem and are the one that will have struggled changing for the better.....or most likely will not change... It really disappoints how unwilling people are to engage some basic critical thinking, and are seemingly far more willing to create hate figures to take their frustration out on. There are two possible explanations as to what happened here. 1. A mother, over a three hour period fails to use a few seconds to check if she actually has the right number for her daughter, after being repeatedly told she doesn't. This same mother also inexplicably chooses to key in the number manually each time she texts her daughter rather than just save it in her contacts. 2. This is set up and scripted, in one of the easiest and most low budget ways to stage anything, in order to make clickbait (which I shamefully fell for :-) Both are technically plausible, but explanation 2 is by far the most likely, and the only reasonable choice for a person with any semblance of rationality.

The only leeway I give this lady is that in the end she says " my mother died last week " Death can make people crazy. It can affect people in strange ways. They can act way out of character, change in personality and be angry and even vicious towards innocent bystanders because they are still in a first stage of grief and shock and ANGER... The reason I know this is fake is because no one in their 40s or 50s spells YOUR - UR or says U instead of U. They spell words out. Clearly the whole thing was staged!

What gets me was not how rude the mom was, but how *totally sure* she was that she was texting her daughter, and that her daughter was just messing with her. She took to canceling her cc, calling her BF, and all sorts of threats before even thinking to call the number to see if, indeed, it was the wrong number. If our society has a problem, it mental stubbornness more than rudeness.

What is more interesting than the fake texts is how opinionated everyone seems to be in their comments about the fictional characters portrayed. Does it not seem obvious? 1. The mother would have her daughter in contacts and would not enter her number. 2. Any normal person would check the number after they are told it's the wrong number. Even someone who was super thick would at least CHECK the number after they've been told three times and get a text with a picture of the other person. 3. The mother's conversation with Jess is not believable. It's almost as if someone wrote it to sound funny and/or provocative, isn't it? Instead of checking the number, she is asking her daughter if she is on drugs. Instead of checking the number, she is telling her own daughter how old she is supposed to be. Instead of checking the number, she is going to cancel her daughter's credit card, which is way more trouble than JUST CHECKING THE NUMBER.

Not really believable. 99.99% of people would check the number and see that they made a mistake after someone tells them that they have the wrong number. The other 0.01% would probably check after they've been told two or three times and/or have pictures of another person being texted to them.

Why wouldn't she have her daughter's number saved in her contacts? Or have a chat history with her on her phone which she opens for texting her daughter. Think about it: When was the last time you actually TYPED a number of a loved one into your mobile? It's not the mother who's stupid: this whole set-up is.

How is this even possible in the days of cell phones where everyone's number is programmed into your phone and no one remembers numbers anymore? With that being said, If it is true and not just for entertainment purposes, this guy is a saint for entertaining it as long as he did. Maybe I get bored too easy but I would have blocked her. You know most posters here are completely overlooking the key component as to how this ( as most of you are calling it) "stupidity". It all made sense once the lady typed that her mother died the week prior. Hello people of no compassion.... She clearly was not in the right frame of mind but who are we to judge. Maybe the drath was tragic or highly unexpected, maybe it was some sort of horrific accident; we have no idea but as soon as she mentioned that her mother just died the 35 year old giy should have felt compassion and realized her vulnerability rather than capitolize on it by making an internet joke of it. Death typically clouds people's ability to think clearly for more than a day or two; it can take weeks or longer for different people. This is a prime example of how we overlook human error and lack compassion because we are too busy being cynical in our superiority. I too thought this lady was a bit high strung and absent minded but once I read that line I knew why.

I had some girl text me once asking me to help with baby shower invites with an elephant on them. I guess her cousin who she thought I was did graphic work. At work, so I had my handy dandy post-it notes so I drew an elephant taking a s**t and sent her a picture which she loved. I revealed I wasn't her cousin and asked for a booby picture cause... why not? (already established in convo she was 18+ btw) and she totally delivered. Guess she really liked my drawing. Someone writes a crazy story, with a really stupid, really infuriating character in it. You just can't believe how stupid this person is, and you just want to slap her! 2. Thinking you're doing the right thing by exposing this person's stupidity, you post the story on your wall. Your friends see it, and do the same thing. 3. The entirely fake text conversation has now gone "viral". 4.
