There’s a saying, ‘When you marry someone, you also marry their family.’ And their wedding traditions — no matter how utterly bizarre they are.

Although the Reddit user by the name of ‘throwratonypan‘ didn’t have to chase and butcher a chicken in order to prove his love in front of fiancée’s family, like they do in Mongolia; his soon-to-be wife expected him to wine and dine with his future mother-in-law as part of their unusual family tradition. And if that sounds a tad sinister, well, you’re not the only one.

Info: Reddit

Love is universal, yes — but marriage traditions are not

And some of them are more downright bizarre than the others

Even MIL was okay with the groom not being the biggest fan of their family tradition

But the bride was still bitter about his choice

This is what people had to say about this uncomfortable situation

Definitely, these Reddit AITA posts picked for BP articles are just too much to be true. Also the consistent way these are written makes me suspect it's always the same person inventing the stories.

Oh you should post that. You'll definitely get a million views... Which is apparently something you want for reasons.

In my family it is tradition for the soon-to-be groom to take the parents of the bride-to-be for an outing of some kind without the bride. It is usually out to dinner or he invites them over and cooks for them (my cousin's husband invited her parents over and cooked dinner and they hung out for a few hours.) This is a "get-to-know-you-on-your-own" thing and nothing that would include purchasing clothes or a hotel room. I mean, I just don't believe this happened.
