Environmental superstar and one of the most lauded teenagers on planet Earth, Greta Thunberg, is known for fighting for what she believes in, no matter what criticism she might get.
Well, the 16-year-old climate change activist Greta from Sweden is making headlines once again, this time for showing that she’s got a great sense of humor and is able to turn other people’s criticism around and make it a strength. When the US President mocked her on Monday by sarcastically noting that she “seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future,” Greta took that quote and proudly put it in her Twitter bio.

Trump’s criticism of the well-known teenager, who is the face of the climate justice movement, occurred several hours after her speech at the United Nations on Monday. There, Greta strongly criticized the world’s most powerful leaders for not doing enough to fight climate change, save the world and ensure a bright tomorrow for future generations.

“I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back at school on the other side of the ocean,” Greta lambasted politicians. “Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.”

Greta’s speech at the UN was well-received by many who believed it conveyed the urgency of global warming, however, some people accused her of pretending to be outraged for better effect. The teenager’s critics previously called her a ‘guru of the Apocalypse,’ while others rose to defend her, highlighting the fact that her goals are what’s best for the world. The girl sailed to the UN summit across the Atlantic Ocean on a 60-foot (18-meter) long environmentally-friendly yacht, the Malizia II, with three other people, including her father Svente.
Bored Panda talked to a representative of the ‘Fridays for Future’ global movement to get some context about the fight against climate change.
The ‘Fridays for Future’ team described itself as “a people’s movement, following the call from Greta Thunberg to school strike.” The movement has a single goal: to recognize the climate emergency currently underway and to create “a safe pathway” to keep the average global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than pre-industrial levels.
The representative from ‘Fridays for Future’ also had this to say: “School children are required to attend school. But with the worsening climate destruction, this goal of going to school begins to be pointless.”
“Why study for a future, which may not be there? Why spend a lot of effort to become educated, when our governments are not listening to the educated?” the representative asked.

I cannot get over how extremely annoying it is when people just hear her speech and then start to criticise her age or her Asperger's and assume that she possibly cannot have generated any of those thoughts on her own. I am so annoyed that some cannot imagine that even at 15 and now 16 you are capable of having strong beliefs, can be determined and perfectly able to speak out and even in front of world leaders. She is very unique and we get to witness the full power of an Aspie in full-logic mode, but it is not uncommon that young adults and even children have strong ethical drives and even a firmer grasp on scientific matters than some elected politicians. Them trying to belittle her as a person is akin to those people telling someone that your child cannot possible be reading at four - just assuming because they couldn't, no one else can. And that speaks more about the critiques than about her. It is like a class meeting of bullies. Ah, the ignorance, it just hurts! Ggraaah!

Unlike most of you here, I saw the major environmental protests in the 60s and early 70s. They were all young too. And, at first, old men mocked and ignored them. But, you know what? They made a difference. It worked. When I was a kid, the air in NYC and Los Angeles was literally brown. Acid rain destroyed car finishes. Pesticides were killing birds and wildlife -- the bald eagle was nearly extinct. Young people (and some adults) pushed and protested and raised awareness and, eventually, they got a groundswell of public opinion behind them. And where public opinion goes, policy follows. Unfortunately, since Conservatives keep coming in and spewing pollution right and left in their greed for excess profits, so every couple of generations, people like Greta have to start the crusade again.

Honestly, I think shes wasting her breath. The UN isn't going to listen to her. If they didn't listen to nobel prize winners and published scientists, whats going to make them listen to her? Also, personally, I wouldn't listen to her because of her word choice. How dare you? the UN isn't responsible. If I recall, the UN is constantly publishing content spreading awareness for climate change. If She wants to make a difference, she should take her activism to countries that matter like India, China and these DEVELOPING nations who are spewing toxic waste into our atmosphere.

I don't understand people mocking this girl.... she's just a young person worried about future generations and speaking up for it; what's wrong with that? You may feel uncomfortable with her but she might become your kid or grandkid's inspiration, and more importantly, make a real change in a whole generation. If she was for climate change. Why did she not attend the meeting by Skype Instead of flying all over the world polluting even more? She should stay in school, use her bike and pick up trash outside on sparetime and advocate about environmental issues ONLINE by SKYPE, FACEBOOK etc. rather than polluting the Earth so much more by all her traveling and complaining that adults don't do things.

I'm not saying she is wrong, and this will probably be unpopular here, but Greta preaches to the choir. Someone should explain to her, if she would listen instead of always angry-preaching, that she will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. She comes on like a precocious toddler with a very confrontational vocabulary. Blaming, dirty looks, foot-stomping temper tantrums and 'how dare you!' is not the road to success. Present solutions, learn to negotiate, get some real world experience and realize what actually has to happen before we can effect change. Greta needs to grow up.

These allegations against Trump are false. Please reread his statement. This post just some propaganda to keep people busy. We are so quick to judge. Other than what the girl said, we know from history UN has never been the answer to world's challenges: whether climate change, genocides in different countries, Xenophobia, persecuted Christians by Nations, consequences of colonisation of other countries e.g. African countries, poverty and instability in countries with sufficient oil, etc. After what she has said, what will the UN do? Mugabe said so many things to be corrected, Ghadafi said many others and proposed practical solutions for peaceful living, and all other valuable proposals what did the UN do? And Trump would not like to be amongst organizations that are not result oriented. He has cut off finances from the UN now they are looking for tactics to get to him. Sorry. I adore this young woman in all her unique, intelligent and totally tell off way of addressing the "adults" in the room about the devastation that still continues on, even after the Paris agreement. It's a shame that a child has the voice while the world leaders are sitting on their hands doing virtually nothing but continuing to allow our water, air and land to be poisoned to death, literally! It seems that humanity is lacking compassion and rationality. This is why: The human brain uses a great deal of energy. In a resting individual, the brain accounts for about 20 % of the entire body's energy expenditure , even though it is only 2 % of the total body mass. Although most cells of the body can use many types of fuel - carbohydrates, fats, proteins - the brain cannot. The brain requires the glucose - sugar. The complex carbohydrates - whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables - are converted by our body into glucose (sugar). Mr. Trump does not go anywhere close to plant-based food, his brain is starving, so please excuse his rhetoric and behavior...and that of all those who support him. They can't help it.

Greta Thunberg is the bravest, coolest, and most dedicated young person I know of; a world treasure who deserves a Nobel Prize for her work. She is already well on the road to becoming one of the greatest people to ever live. She also makes me very hopeful her generation will be the one to quit f*****g up the world—-as all past generations, including my own, have done in one way or another—-and finally get it right.

Climate change is real. We should do (and are actually doing) something about it, but if you really think this will help, you are brutally narrow-minded and easily swayed. It is oh-so-easy to yell: "Stop pollution! Stop climate change!", but when asked how, ofcourse the keybard warriors don't realistically know. I envy non-scientific first world people, I would love to have your type of mind. The girl is, sadly, probably just a poster child for some ugly bigger agenda that will rear it's head sooner or later.

The responsibility was pushed onto us. We have no choice now but to clean up the mess that previous generations have made, and that we still contribute too. This isn't a blame game anymore. No one in power is doing anything. Our parents aren't doing anything. Governments, teachers, baby boomers, no one seems to care. And in five + years, we will be halfway to the tipping point. There is no time to study. In eleven years, climate change will be irreversible, so you don't say that we can't make a change because then you are sealing us to our fate. If we spend these eleven years studying (which, btw, she is doing, she's not abandoned her education), then by the time we are done and can make a difference, it will be too late. Then people will ask us why we didn't do anything when we could.

I'm not saying she is wrong, and this will probably be unpopular here, but Greta preaches to the choir. Someone should explain to her, if she would listen instead of always angry-preaching, that she will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. She comes on like a precocious toddler with a very confrontational vocabulary. Blaming, dirty looks, foot-stomping temper tantrums and 'how dare you!' is not the road to success. Present solutions, learn to negotiate, get some real world experience and realize what actually has to happen before we can effect change. Greta needs to grow up.

These allegations against Trump are false. Please reread his statement. This post just some propaganda to keep people busy. We are so quick to judge. Other than what the girl said, we know from history UN has never been the answer to world's challenges: whether climate change, genocides in different countries, Xenophobia, persecuted Christians by Nations, consequences of colonisation of other countries e.g. African countries, poverty and instability in countries with sufficient oil, etc. After what she has said, what will the UN do? Mugabe said so many things to be corrected, Ghadafi said many others and proposed practical solutions for peaceful living, and all other valuable proposals what did the UN do? And Trump would not like to be amongst organizations that are not result oriented. He has cut off finances from the UN now they are looking for tactics to get to him. Sorry. This girl's thing is a distraction from the truth. Total distraction. Let Trump be.

I adore this young woman in all her unique, intelligent and totally tell off way of addressing the "adults" in the room about the devastation that still continues on, even after the Paris agreement. More power to you my dear. Keep fighting the good fight. It's a shame that a child has the voice while the world leaders are sitting on their hands doing virtually nothing but continuing to allow our water, air and land to be poisoned to death, literally! At this rate there may not be a future for man "kind" nothing kind about man in my book!

Did Trump actually criticize her? No he didn't. He simply made a supposedly good remark but the media has turned it to a critique. Trump is rather impressed by her enthusiasm. Also I think grandstanding that people are dying and suffering at the beginning of a mass extinction seems a little over the top. It seems that humanity is lacking compassion and rationality. This is why: The human brain uses a great deal of energy. In a resting individual, the brain accounts for about 20 % of the entire body's energy expenditure , even though it is only 2 % of the total body mass. Although most cells of the body can use many types of fuel - carbohydrates, fats, proteins - the brain cannot. The brain requires the glucose - sugar. The complex carbohydrates - whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables - are converted by our body into glucose (sugar). Mr. Trump does not go anywhere close to plant-based food, his brain is starving, so please excuse his rhetoric and behavior...and that of all those who support him. They can't help it.

Greta Thunberg is the bravest, coolest, and most dedicated young person I know of; a world treasure who deserves a Nobel Prize for her work. She is already well on the road to becoming one of the greatest people to ever live. She also makes me very hopeful her generation will be the one to quit f*****g up the world—-as all past generations, including my own, have done in one way or another—-and finally get it right.

Climate change is real. We should do (and are actually doing) something about it, but if you really think this will help, you are brutally narrow-minded and easily swayed. It is oh-so-easy to yell: "Stop pollution! Stop climate change!", but when asked how, ofcourse the keybard warriors don't realistically know. I envy non-scientific first world people, I would love to have your type of mind. The girl is, sadly, probably just a poster child for some ugly bigger agenda that will rear it's head sooner or later.

The responsibility was pushed onto us. We have no choice now but to clean up the mess that previous generations have made, and that we still contribute too. This isn't a blame game anymore. No one in power is doing anything. Our parents aren't doing anything. Governments, teachers, baby boomers, no one seems to care. And in five + years, we will be halfway to the tipping point. There is no time to study. In eleven years, climate change will be irreversible, so you don't say that we can't make a change because then you are sealing us to our fate. If we spend these eleven years studying (which, btw, she is doing, she's not abandoned her education), then by the time we are done and can make a difference, it will be too late. Then people will ask us why we didn't do anything when we could.
