29 Hilariously Wrong Answers That Prove Google’s AI Overview Is A Joke
Interview With ExpertIt's been only a few weeks since Google introduced 'AI Overview' in its search engine, but the public criticism has already been overwhelming.
And rightfully so. On paper, the feature should present a quick summary of helpful answers to questions at the top of the page. For example, if someone wants to know how to tie a tie, they ought to receive a clear and concise step-by-step guide on the most popular knots.
But the reality is very different. Social media users have shared a huge variety of screenshots showing the AI tool giving funny, incorrect, and downright concerning responses.
Continue scrolling to check them out, and don't miss the conversation we had with Dr. Toby Walsh — you'll find it in between the pictures.

Can't argue with the fact that rocks are a source of minerals...
The problem arises because artificial intelligence has no clue what any text symbols mean. You can train it to generate words based on a given input, but it will not comprehend the meaning behind those words.
"Generative AI systems like Google's AI Overview or ChatGPT don't know what's true. They just repeat what they find frequently on the web," Toby Walsh, professor of AI at UNSW Sydney and author of 'Faking It! Artificial Intelligence in a Human World,' told Bored Panda.
These overviews are one of the most dramatic examples of the limitations behind today's AI technologies, which Elon Musk said will outsmart humans by 2026.
Walsh explained, "Obscure topics are likely to give generative AI the most difficulty. No one had said on the web not to eat rocks because it was so obviously a bad idea. But there was one satirical article from the Onion that did suggest you should because of their 'good' mineral content. Unfortunately, AI can't tell satire from truth."
"Being in the net with the entire body" is the mental image I didn't know I needed today, but boy has it made my day 1000 times better!
Have a separate ramekin full of diesel on the side. For dipping.
And if it's too spicy have a glass of coolant at the ready

Load More Replies...I think we should address the ridiculous questions too. If these questions are legit and were asked by real people, is AI trying to kill them?
Are you kidding? With the price of gas these days? Better to use the teabag from last evenings teapot and soak it in a little water from the humidifier.
Sauce that gives you gas BEFORE you eat it - now that's what I call fuel efficiency!
you can infact use gasolin to cook spaghetti, but it works best if you pour it into a gasolin fueled camping stove.
It improves your pores so much that you could bleed out of them when you fall.
A Google spokesperson told the BBC these were "isolated examples" and insisted the feature was generally working well.
"The examples we've seen are generally very uncommon queries, and aren't representative of most people's experiences," the company's statement said.
"The vast majority of AI overviews provide high-quality information, with links to dig deeper on the web."
Google also said, "We conducted extensive testing before launching this new experience, and as with other features we've launched in Search, we appreciate the feedback."
"We're taking swift action where appropriate under our content policies, and using these examples to develop broader improvements to our systems, some of which have already started to roll out."
Everything is a poison. "Poison" is not a thing. It's a dose of something. 10 liters of water are deadly poison, same with salt, sugar and everything. Some substances for sure need a really little dose to become a poison.
But comedy isn't what we use its search engine for. "It's a risky strategy for Google to roll something like this out," Professor Walsh added.
"We are used to trusting Google to give us correct search results. Google should never forget we're only one click away from finding a new search engine."
Censoring is getting out of control. We’re grown ups now, treat us as such.
I don't know what thermal paste is, but I have a hunch that it's almost, but not quite, entirely unlike beans.
These are absolutely fantastic! This post needs to be upvoted more! Just hilarious. Anyway, having trained (while holding scissors) over an eight day week, I'm off to cook spaghetti with rocks and pebbles, using gasoline. Then I'm going to watch dogs play in the NBA whilst trying to remove the cockroach from my penis.
The real problem will be if they get the kinks worked out somehow. The AI overview steals the traffic from all the websites that worked hard to collate data and create informative pages and keeps that traffic for Google. Without traffic, sites (and their related jobs) die.
This pretty much encapsulates the spirit of the "do your own research" crowd. We laugh, but don't forget that there are absolutely people who blindly trust Google search results to be true even when basic logic says they aren't...
I go back and forth between thinking AI technologists are absolute idiots for thinking AI might take over the world to wondering if AI is just actually so intelligent that it's deceiving us all with this stuff. Actually, not really, this AI stuff is gonna flop so hard.
A while back during the first launch, google had to take it down because it was even worse than this. Google wasnt even supposed to launch this until 2025, they keep rushing it out early because of Microsoft backed ChatGPT and they didnt want to lag behind. It has only made their reputation worse. But back a few months ago the answers were horrific, racist, etc
I didn't bother to go through them all. At least some of these are fake. Don't trust what Google tells you. Don't trust boredpanda either.
I tried some of these in Google so I could see for myself. None of the questions I put into Google produced an AI answer that matched the post in this article. I think only 2 gave an AI response at all, and the information given was accurate (snake bite, and chicken cooking temp). The rest of the questions that I put into Google did not give an AI answer at all, just the normal search results.
With the massive surge in people noticing incorrect AI answers, there's probably been a lot of people working to correct the misinformation, or some sort of temporary shut down of the AI while they can fix the bugs.
