Women’s sports have not always been considered popular or mainstream in Nepal. Generally, sports are assumed to be just for boys. Women and girls, even when equally motivated and trained as their male counterparts, are often compelled to give up sports and games, be it for getting married or lack of support from their parents.

GIRL POWER Futsal Tournament — a event organized by the NGO Girls Empowered by Travel – Nepal — is scheduled for June 17th and aims to encourage and support the participation of young Nepali girls in sports programs in order to revive and nourish girls’ interest and skills. There will be 10 all girls’ teams participating in the tournament, with a total of 100 participants. The main objectives are to create the space and platform for girls to develop life skills, such as leadership and teamwork; to promote a healthy lifestyle; and to boost girls’ self-confidence and belief in their talents. The winning team will be awarded a one-day hiking trip, in the Sindhupalchowk area.

The total event budget is $1,750. Until now, local participants were able to raise $400 through local sponsorship (which is remarkable, considering the humble means and modest to scarce resources that are currently available to them). Yet, they still need $1,350 more to cover all costs of GIRL POWER Futsal Tournament. You can help to make this event happen by donating through the fundraising campaign link below.

Thank you!
