35 Times People Ordered Groceries During Quarantine And Got More Than They Bargained For
Fruits, vegetables, and berries come in various shapes and sizes—just like humans do. However, unlike with people, we don't often see diverse-looking produce in stores. As it turns out, produce is held to strict and unrealistic "beauty" standards which result in tremendous amounts of perfectly edible vegetables and fruits being thrown away or fed to livestock. Yet from time to time, some of the ugly and imperfect veggies slide past the strict evaluation process and end up in stock. Unused to the sight, many customers avoid buying them; however, those who buy food online don't always have the opportunity to see what they'll get. That's why when a Twitter user named Naomi ordered 1 kg of sweet potatoes, she was surprised to get one mutant potato she called "PotatoZilla." Inspired by this funny incident, we decided to gather a list of sizeable units people got when ordering produce. Check them all out below!

The veins are caused by fibrous roots, you can still eat it though.
"... veins are quite off putting" LOL one of the first things noticed 🤣🤣
That's a mutant potato! Wonder if you'll get super powers when you eat it?
WERE IS THE 'SWEET' POTATO GONNA END UP?! BTW IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A SWEET POTATO
Omg what the hell had no idea they could get veiny that's so disturbing lol
better keep it for a cold lonely night, the vein might help even more
No you don't. Be lazy today. It's good for you to relax.

It'S good that the veggies, that wouldn't sell in a supermarket get eaten this way don't end up in the trash.
There are places where stuff just grows bigger than elsewhere. Usually, giant zucchinis taste awful and are pretty hard inside. Grandma's never were, but they were huge. I really wondered when I saw them in the store the first time ... they were, like, one foot or even less. What are they for, for those playing-shops with matchbox-sized food packaging or so? The largest I remember reached my shoulders when standing on the ground. Well, I was two then, and maybe remember it more drastic than it was.
If we could grow food this big everywhere we could have enough to feed the world! Someone hurry up and find a way to do this!!!!!!!! (teach me how to get monster sized yums please! I want to feed my entire neighborhood!)
World is not hungry, because we can't feed poor, but because we can't feed rich enough(or something like that, i may not remember it quite right)

Okay, so were these grocery stores/farmers markets located next to a nuclear plant??
What is the texture and flavor like when the produce is so over sized?
I wouldn't want to eat the large carrots or potatoes or sweet potatoes, I'd be afraid that they'd be very fibrous and yucky
This is what food looks like when you grow it at home. Same for the eggs, it's very common to get "freaky" looking egg that haven't gone through a factory line.
Not to worry folks. This is what things look like if you live in Alaska, in and around the Matanuska Valley. I remember these things every late summer when I lived up there during the 50s. HUGE potatoes, GIGANTIC cabbages. Those of you who live around Anghorage know what I am talking about. ;)
A lot of these arent crazy, I mean Spanish Onions, Large Whites and Jumbo Yellows are normally that size, with Garlic, Elephant Garlic is normally that big, etc, etc. It is people who just asked for generic of these types and got sent ones they are not used to. But very few of these are shocking to anyone who ever walks through a vegetable and fruit area in any decent stocked grocery store
I got two huge unwarranted packages of Swiss Miss hot cocoa, does that count?
I like big food and I cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny, when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face you get... to see the massive onion she found.
They should feel blessed. ;) It's like finding the holy grail when you work in the Produce Department. We find the largest piece of produce and triumphantly parade it around the department, saying "LOOK AT HOW HUUUGE THIS IS." Such a great feeling ahaha.
Anyone else getting kitchen envy? Or is it just me? Wouldn't be the first time I'm on my own with a thought or opinion tbh 😁x
Not necessarily. There used to be an anual fair at my hometown where local farmers would exhibit their biggest fruits and vegetables. They were hilariously huge. All of them were small farms with little to no fertilizers involved, so I guess it has to do with the soil.

If you grow your own, you discover that 'normal' is a hugely variant size. Supermarkets only accept a select set of sizes, and now consumers think that's the standard. Sweet potatoes especially can get huge, and I've had strawberries that size from my garden.
