In the same way that you wouldn't cut a hole like this in a piece of fabric and expect it to look nice as a cape, you wouldn't cut a hole in a skin or piece of leather - you need a real pattern! In the case of Jon Snow's cape, however, it's more likely that the skin isn't cut at all - the side/flank of the skin is against Jon's neck, you can see the two leather straps crossing over his chest that are sewn at the head and rump of the skin that are holding it on. :) In a more refined garment, there are ways to cut the fur skin in slits and resew it (called letting out, or stranding) that could enable the fur to flow correctly in the garment and also change the skin to the necessary shape (i.e. it can lengthen the skin).

Oh, and you WOULDN'T use scissors!!

Yes, Lillukka79 - in the fur trade, raccoon dogs are referred to as Finn raccoons.

Thanks Emily, didn't know that. Makes sense tho, finns have a long history in furtrading. Raccoondogs are a menace here, the sound they make in the night makes ones blood curdle.

Lillukka79 - I haven't ever heard one before - what do they sound like? Is it somewhat similar to the sounds foxes make (which is also very haunting)? I've heard that raccoon dogs can be a pest in some places, especially where they are not native!

How lovely, promoting raccoon dog fur by way of them being tortured and then skinned alive to ultimately be used in a movie. I was hoping they were conscious enough to use fake fur!
