Sometimes, after a hard day at work, it can be difficult to get back to your cheerful self. In moments like this, few things feel fun and it might even look like most people have their dream jobs while you’re stuck in a rut in a place you don’t feel that fond of.
But scrolling on the internet—or even talking to people in your circles—might prove you wrong; chances are, many people you know are in the same boat, when it comes to feelings about work. And having this shared experience can be somewhat comforting.
Talking about being able to relate to other people or watch them face similar problems, Professor of Leadership and Organizational Psychology at Claremont McKenna College, Dr. Ronald Riggio, noted that comparing ourselves to others is part of human nature. “People use social comparison—comparing ourselves to similar others—to understand all aspects of their lives, and that is also the case at work. When we encounter problems, we want to know if others have experienced the same thing. We also look at how others solved problems, or tried to solve them. It's simply a part of human nature.”
Prof. Riggio continued to point out that when things get tough, being able to relate to or lean on others play an important role in regards to people’s well-being. “Social support is critical for high quality social relationships of all kinds, and also at work. When we are stressed, we look to others for social support,” he noted.
The expert also added that we tend to turn to others when things go great, too. “We also want to share accomplishments and good things with others. In the same way that a movie is funnier if we watch it in the presence of others, celebrating success with others increases our happiness.”
This shows that you have not trained your boss properly. They should be the one pretending when they see you.
And we're not even talking about the willpower and sense of etiquette it takes to not punch them in the face.. ***pheeeeeeewww***
Social support from others can come in all sorts of ways. Some people might lend a helping hand, others – a shoulder to cry on; then there are those who share great advice and, of course, those, who send the most relatable funny memes.
Discussing humor-based relatable content, Dr. Riggio noted that when it comes to work-related matters, sharing funny memes and similar content can lead to better relationships. “It helps us cope, and helps to build strong relationships with colleagues,” he said.
Except it's 6:30 during work week and 10(ish) when I have a day off 🤷♀️
At times in my life, this has been me and once, I could not take it any more, and left work never going back to home or office again. Not proud of that!
PreviewHR seconded the idea that memes can be a great way for colleagues to build relationships, as due to their relatability, memes create a sense of belonging in employees. It also brings fun and humour into a workplace and, according to said source, the majority of employed individuals believe that working in a fun workplace would make them more productive. Many also say that laughing on the job helps reduce work-related stress.
We most definitely do NOT celebrate the power or internet cutting out. Our lives become infinitely more difficult!
Load More Replies...Whenever my computer tells me it's trying to reconnect I bang my mouse on the desk a few times as if that will somehow do anything useful at all lol
We'd just have to do everything manually (takes 3x+ as long) only to enter it into the computer once service is restored, lol, not fun - just a lot more work, not going home early!

I've had fellow employees who showed up every day, but, no, didn't work.
Remember that people at work may be your friends, but that's not what they're there for.
