Dad jokes may be all over the internet, but this weekend belongs to moms, so let's hand over the mic to them.
Whether your mother is the comedian in the family, or she could really, really use a laugh today, your family should find something in this Bored Panda list to help lighten the mood.
While we all have a unique sense of humor, there are some universal it's-funny-because-it's-true bits that only a mom can produce. So continue scrolling and check out the ones that really stand out!

Her Mother Looks So Happy
Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to belong to a long line of jesters to make humor work for you and your children. Parents can sometimes use joking as a distraction or departure from the usual routine – a break from the serious side of things.
With humor, moms and dad can calm down emotional situations, encourage proper behavior and strengthen the parent-child bond. Yet, many of us do not fully appreciate its potential.
Talya Stone, a former public relations specialist turned blogger and the woman behind online journals Motherhood: The Real Deal and 40 Now What, told Bored Panda that allowing yourself to switch off and not make a big deal out of everything can be a real gamechanger.
"Life is so stressful, as can parenting be and humor is a powerful way of diffusing every situation in particular when your kids are driving you nuts and acting out."

World's Best Mom
If u love your parents, tell them. Doesn't have to be that hard. My dad is kindda cold but shows his love in many other ways and once in a while i'll drop an 'love u' just like passing by, and I can feel he feels touched by that. Btw, i think he has said to me "I love you' a hanful of times in my whole life (im 47) but is the kind of guy who would do a week long research on medicine if I told him I got a cold
"The moment I learned not to take everything so seriously (or myself so seriously), I instantly became a better parent," Talya Stone said.
Susan Newman, Ph.D., who is a social psychologist researching and writing about parenting concerns, family dynamics and trends, agrees. She thinks even though parental anger may seem like the right response when your child misbehaves, it runs the risk of putting a wedge in your relationship.
"Consider a thoughtful, humorous exchange: laughter or a joke, but one not made at your child’s expense in a way that demeans him," Newman suggested in U.S. News. "Sarcasm and put-downs work against tightening your parent-child bond. Let's say you send your child to his room or take your daughter's cellphone away for two weeks. You are ultimately pushing a child away who already feels miserable because he broke a rule or your favorite bowl (or because he got caught). She's stressed by the transgression that curtailed her privileges and may begin to harbor resentment toward her restricting parent."

Of course, that doesn't mean that humor is always the best answer. "Anything that puts your child in physical danger or seems to put his academic or social standing at risk calls for a serious chat or imposing restrictions," Newman highlighted.
But with that being said, in many instances, a lighter approach reduces both the parent's and the child's stress. So why not make use of it?
"It can also keep a situation from escalating and reduce a child's feelings of regret or remorse over having done something inappropriate. Most importantly, humor underscores that you love your child in spite of the immediate misstep."

Rod A. Martin, one of the premier researchers on the topic, is certain that humor is important for both emotional well-being and relationships.
In his book, 'The Psychology of Humor: An Integrative Approach,' Martin points out, "Besides boosting positive emotions and counteracting negative moods like depression and anxiety, humor is thought to be a valuable mechanism for coping with stressful life events and an important social skill for initiating, maintaining and enhancing satisfying interpersonal relationships."

A very touching gesture by the mother but as you know when you have kids expect the unexpected.
Not a peep out of the kid.
For parents who are infuriated by what their child has done, summoning humor in that moment can be hard, but Newman thinks it's worth a shot to make something out of an already unpleasant situation. The social psychologist invites moms and dads to imagine these situations:
- Your toddler throws ketchup at your beige curtains – a direct hit before company arrives in 15 minutes for dinner.
- Your teenager, a new driver, crumples the fender backing out of a parking space when he was told not to take the car to the mall.
- Your 7-year-old tries on every one of your lipsticks, breaking most of them in half.
- Your child uses your favorite handsaw on a mystery, gooey surface, and the saw is now only suitable for collecting dust or the trash.
- You warn the kids that nothing good could come from playing ball in the house. Two minutes later, they crack the living room window.

"None of the [before mentioned points are] particularly funny in the heat of the moment," Newman said. "As you attempt to control your displeasure and decide what to do, consider a reaction that's different from your usual approach. For instance, take the line, 'nothing good can come of that,' as a family mantra, an inside joke, and call it up when you see trouble brewing next time."
"Chances are good that your kids will laugh and start using it themselves (or with their siblings). They may even think twice about having a food fight or using your things without asking, and the line will be one more touching point between you. Alternatively, you can jump up and down or lie on the floor (not speaking) to 'say' without words, 'Stop what you’re doing right now!' And the children will think their parent acting ridiculously is quite entertaining."

Single Mom Dresses As Dad So Her Son Wouldn't Miss "Donuts With Dad" Day At School
Today at my son Elijah's skewl as I was dropping him off I ask him why there were so many cars... He said Donuts with Dad, so we quickly went back home cause I wasn't about to let him miss out... I know seeing other dads with their kids isn't easy for me but it's life, at least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face, so here it goes.
That’s absolute love and dedication shown by the mother! Bless them both! I feel like a donut 🍩 now
In My Mom’s Bathroom
If you want to give it a go, Newman suggests these silly approaches:
- Act silly. Walk backward or abruptly stop speaking as a signal that you don't approve of whatever might be going on at the moment. Your children will laugh at you once they understand your action means you are not happy with the current behavior.
- Talk to your child in pig Latin. Or ask her to repeat back to you something you said in the language she’s studying in school or in pig Latin.
- Swoop in. Pretend you’re an angel or part of a cleanup crew (if a mess has been created) to diffuse the situation and get help with cleanup.

- Get emotional, but not really. Make believe you are crying or sad, or do a dance and give it a name: “The Broken Vase Dance” or the “Not Going to Bed Dance.”
- Make up a jingle. Use it when your child might be acting unsuitably or is about to break one of your rules, and repeat it often. For example, bust out a tune when you see your daughter is about to go over her allotted nightly screen time. Or, sing when your son is about to touch an object he shouldn’t.
- Laugh at yourself. Do this when you make a mistake or do something boneheaded.
Today Is My First Mother’s Day And I Gotta Say, I’m Killing It
I grew up with abusive, drug-addicted parents. I was always filled with anxiety about having my own kids and wondered if I’d be a good mom.
Can relate. My parents were awful, but I'm raising my child the exact opposite of how they parented. I'm always there for her, respect her feelings, and know her worth. As a result, we've always been best friends and can tell each other anything

Everyone's human, and chances are parents will lose it on occasion with their children. But that doesn't mean we can use it as an excuse every time we lose our temper.
As these moms show, a joke is possible in many everyday situations. Try to follow their lead and slip it in if there's a chance!

Found A Cookie I Made As A Child For My Mom’s First Mother’s Day After She Left My Abusive Dad Still In My Mom’s Freezer - I’m 28 Now
My mum still keeps and uses the needle pillow I made her in elementary school. I'm 32 now. That's the ugliest needle pillow in the world, but she loves it.
😭❤😭 the first mothers day after I left my abusive husband he kept our daughter from seeing me. This year I celebrated my first single mother's day as the custodial patent. I will keep that stuffed animal she gave me today until the day I die.
Put it in resin so she can keep it out of the freezer and display it year round :)
It took me a while to realize that the dad wasn´t in the freezer. Just the cookie.
I'll bet it's because, in that moment, that cookie, meant more than the ENTIRE WORLD to her!! 😍 And, probably STILL does!...
How touching! Maybe it was her daily reminder how she wanted to show you her courage! I love your mom!
There's no telling how many times she took that out when she needed a smile
Must have been on heck on an abusive dad for the child to make a cookie celebrating that she locked the dad in the freezer.
Melissa Rodriguez. You beat me to it. I have put quite a few things my daughters and grandchildren gave me in resin. It's my new hobby
She took one bite. I love this. I would be this woman. Yes I would. I would take one teeny bite and say it's the best cookie I ever tasted, because it would be and I would secretively save both pieces. And every time I came across it in the freezer in it's surgical place I would smile.

I never knew my mother - she died when I was born and I grew up in foster care. 6 years ago, a very sweet grandmother at my work, whom I make a point of finding everyday to say hello to, reminded me to visit my mother on mother's day. When I told her my story, she put two and two together and I walked in to work on my birthday to my very first birthday party she had organized. So for the past 5 years, I spend mother's day with her. My adopted mother. I love you mama Jean!
This got me teary eyed. What a wonderful woman mama Jean is. So great you found each other. ❤
Load More Replies...My mom did so much. She taught us to dance with the vacuum for a partner; she used nonsense words instead of curse words (I grew up legit thinking for a while that "that little beffel" was a real cuss). She also went without to put us through better schools as kids, than the public ones in our area. And, finally, with all her many flaws, she never turned away a wounded soul, even tho' she has a deep phobia about dogs, from being attacked as a child.... We had five dogs. At once. Bless you, Mom, and all other good moms..
And yet you had the audacity to name her flaws. Ungrateful beffel

I wish I could remember my mom. She died when I was 2 in a car accident. My dad was driving drunk and her screaming is my only memory of her. Her grave is in another state so I've only been there twice. A service where someone could deliver flowers to her, clean up her headstone and maybe relay a message would be a dream come true. Mothers day hurts, but something like that might make it hurt a little less.
I used to live next to a cemetery and starting when I was 7, I got paid a little bit to go to different graves and water and weed the flowers and clean up around the graves once a week (my mom would help too). I would see if you could find the caretakers of the cemetery and contact them, or maybe the nearest town, and see if they know of someone who would do something like that. A local funeral home might be able to help or point you in the right direction as well. If there was a flower shop close, I wonder if maybe they would do it too.

Great mothers and Fathers will do anything for their kids while at the same time, teaching them how to respect, love and trust someone(including themselves). How to be decent human beings. How to do the right thing...Even though everyone makes mistakes, even when others fail them, WE will be there to stand them back up. Every child, no matter what age(therefore every single person)should ALWAYS feel SAFE with their parents, family or a mentor. Just remember, one doesn't need to be a biological parent or bliod family to have/learn the good in others. Any person can show a 'child' what family love is. Sadly, there are far too many that never get to experience that bond and safety. It's SO important to help people when you sense they need it. Don't dismiss your intuitions folks. Your love and true support will literally change a bad path to a good one. By doing this, we are raising better people. Everyone should be doing this together. Not just our moms/dads. 💕

These are wonderful stories. Still looking for that article about how great single dads are. I am a solo dad of 3, owed over $40K in support (no arrest ever made), and live just near the US poverty line. But still manage to get my children all they need. Never missed one school dance, worn nail polish in about every color, sat down to tea parties with teddy bears and stuffed dragons, late night reading and study with them so they pass that test in school, and have a hot meal on the table every night between 5 and 6 pm! Wish I had the funding to start a support group for ingle fathers trying to do the right thing.
