It's funny how sometimes you misspell a word and it takes on a whole new meaning. Or name a child so uniquely that it turns out to be a 'Tragedeigh'. We know naming a child is a tough task and parents usually want it to be one-of-a-kind, but it should be done responsibly.
There is a subreddit called the same name, 'r/tragedeigh', and it is full of names that have been misspelled, or made up for the sake of appearing distinctive. We've compiled our favorite names from the subreddit, so grab a snack and let's get scrolling!

Giving unique names is surely a new trend. In the past, parents used to name their kids with the most popular names (like William in Britain). This resulted in half of Great Britain's boys' names being the same. Imtiaz says, "This is because naming conventions were founded in religious and ancestral ties. For example, scriptural names were popular, and English Puritans sometimes named their children after moral attributes, such as Faith or Mercy." Similarly, in Islamic countries, children's names tend to be religion-related, like Muhammad, after the Holy Prophet.

I interacted with this lady for work once, and had to ask if she was vaccinated. Her response was "Jesus wasn't vaccinated so..." She had just previously informed me of her husband being a part who was previously running a church in Central Florida before they moved to where they are, she mentioned their "giant" TV and having to use their new big SUV to get it home because it wouldn't fit in her car she just got, and her son was at the lake house down the road. Yea, Jesus didn't have any of those either Karen, and if Jesus was alive now, he'd be fully vaccinated for everything because his entire thing was to do what you can for others, regardless of what it does to yourself. I had the same thought. Not about getting made fun of, per se, because I still think "traditional" names will have enough presence to be normal, but the more the tragedeighs happen, the most normalized it will be until eventually nobody will think twice about it. I say this as someone with a name that was super uncommon when I was a kid. I had to tell people how to pronounce it all the time, and I definitely got made fun of. But then, when I was a teenager, all of a sudden my name got really popular. I never get asked about it anymore, although it has been a victim of tradjedeigh spelling, so I always have to spell it for people. Kids with that name are definitely not getting made fun of now like I did. And on the one hand, it's nice to be able to find stuff with my name on it now, but on the other hand, I kind of miss having a name that's a conversation starter.

Went to school with a kid whose family last name was "Battles'. His name was Major. Sounded like a history book. His younger brother, who was the second child, was name El Segundo. Major used to get mad when we called his brother "number two" (as in poop) despite that being the literal translation.

I live in a country that doesn’t, but we do have rules that say the name can not be offensive or cause possible discomfort for the child, so names like ”Anakin” and ”Blueberry” are ok, but not ”Liquor Store” or ”Hitler”

A few years ago, I read that NZ had to actually make LAWS to keep parents from naming their kids c**p like this. Because they were getting so many requests from KIDS even, to change their names. The girl the article was specifically writing about was "Lula From Talula Likes To Hula. 100% legit her name (based on a news article, I think was from a legit news source, but don't quote me there)

At least Parkinggarage (named after the place he was conceived, I really wish I was joking) waited until his 18th birthday. I mean different cultures have weird and odd sounding names to any foreigner that is not apart of that culture. For instance, Asian names, African names and so many others. Why would America be any different? I get people want to shame others or be offended by names they wouldn't name their own kids. But I can assure you even the name David is ridiculously, weird, and odd to people who are from the cultures I mentioned earlier. So I guess I don't get why people think or feel this way about names. My child's name-journey seems tame by comparison. Our son is Javier, pretty routine, right? But Mrs. TriSec is of Basque extraction, and we toyed with using the Basque spelling of "Xabier" (pronounced the same.) Only in America, he'd be "X-avier", and that's not what we wanted. So, Spanish spelling it is.

Saw people on Judge Judy whose surnames were Kitchenmaster and Householder. How would one acquire surnames like that? Far too modern, must have been changed by choice.

To be fair, while many languages (well, at least I know for sure mine, and English) has surnames like Blacksmith, Cook or Potter (my maiden name is Potter translated :D), it was about time they modernize a bit, I'm expecting future surnames being Copywriter, Developer or Influencer :)
