The Today Years Old Instagram account is dedicated to sharing entertainment, news and memes. And clearly, it’s doing a great job, as the account has amassed an impressive 9.1 million followers since its creation in 2018. But if Instagram isn’t your favorite platform, have no fear. Today Years Old can also be enjoyed on X, Facebook, and TikTok as well.
TYO even has their own website, TodayYearsOld.com, which explains their community. “We’ve created a network of social accounts that drive influence,” the site states. “Leveraging creative content and marketing strategies, our approaches have allowed us to build a highly engaging and organic audience across all platforms. From viral memes and trending videos to fun facts and discoveries, our communities are centered around content that speaks to people.”
I got so tired to being the one to put in then mental effort and planning for ordinary every things. My husband and I talked about it, and now whilst I am planning the menu, composing the shopping list etc, he is washing dishes, doing the laundry, vacuuming the stairs... What I am doing has not changed, but it is being recognised as being part of the housework. It's being valued and appreciated. We each have our own tasks, and it feels like a balance has been reached.
Sounds like the type to start a juicy rumour if there wasn't one going round, true or not.
We’re big fans of Today Years Old Media here at Bored Panda, so this actually isn’t the first time we’ve covered one of their accounts. And lucky for us, when we featured posts from their X page about a year ago, we were able to get in touch with the company’s founder, Aidan Schwieger.
As far as where the inspiration for Today Years Old Media came from, Aidan shared, "I always found myself coming across random facts that truly blew my mind, and couldn’t help but share them in the hope that others would find them as fascinating as I did.” This list features mostly memes and silly photos, but on the group’s X account, there are many fun facts that followers can learn when they’re “today years old.”
Me too, I have one very specific book that I read every summer and have done so for the past 30 years. It's called "My Family, and Other Animals" by Gerald Durrell.
Load More Replies...I know it 😅 I have my 'familiar' comfort shows. I mix new ones in, try em out. But on a bad day, I want that familiarity
Which version, the British original or the one with Steve Carell?
Load More Replies...TV shows, movies, books, video games, even music playlists or albums; my life is all of those on repeat to deal with anxiety.
Yeah video games, I love Minecraft for my anxiety sometimes.
Load More Replies...Yes, I read some books over again for that kind of relaxation. My favorite fiction writer, because his prose is so smooth, is Stephen King
Me too! I have read The Stand 15 times now. I was so disappointed with the new miniseries. The 1992 (4?) Original TV miniseries is one of my comfort shows. I have 3 versions on DVD in case of damages. It's not available on TV It was on Youtube but now it missing most of it. I like the audio book as well . Also enjoy IT, Dr. Sleep and The Talisman multiple times
Load More Replies...OK, I have seen the movie The Sound of Music over 33 times (I stopped counting after that) and I'm still anxious at the end when they are almost caught and the BF is the traitor. My husband (and probably my children when they were here) doesn't understand. It's just that I'm so into to movie that nothing else matters at that point. I used to read the end of books to make sure it finished well before I started reading it.
I watched the Sound of music so many times, too! It's my mum's favorite movie and even my 2 years old nice loved it (she would specifically asked to watch it)
Load More Replies...It's my adhd that keeps me rewatching shows/movies. I can't concentrate on new shows. I might watch an episode or 2 but never go back and finish them.
Load More Replies...This is also true for introverts. New things requiring your full attention drain energy, familiar things that don't require full (or any) attention allow you to recharge.
Yes. It's like having a conversation with a long-term friend. You know what they're going to say, but you love hanging out with them anyway.
Thank you Manic Mama, that's a good comparison. You can relax and feel comfortable because you accept each other as you are.
Load More Replies...Yep. The Office and Parks and Rec cast are some of my closest friends.
I forced myself to stop doing this because it was just wasting time.
Yes. Rewatching or rereading something familiar allows you to relive the *feeling* again, whatever particular emotion you're in the mood to have, without surprises. You know exactly what experience you're going to get.
Yes. Even the funny one. You laugh before the joke, at the joke and after the joke. Triple the fun.
If you watch TV with subtitles, you can laugh when you read it AND when you hear it!
Load More Replies...I have terrible anxiety (and have been in therapy for a couple of years now). I have a few movies that I could rewatch every day, but I'm not a fan of rewatching a show repeatedly. Yeah, there's a couple I have seen more than once, but there's usually at least a year spaced between viewings, so I've pretty much forgotten most of it 😂 I like not knowing, which is odd considering my genre of choice is horror lol
Similar to having a reverse neuronal process. When you must remember a moment of accomplishment, and how everyone benefited from it, for example. Then you "replay" the instance again. And again. And then AGAIN! It's because you are so goddamn f****** distraught. Despondent and dismal. The enactment of this measure is for serotonin. It's helpful for the increase, and ultimately "bad". You find yourself unable to move forward in thought due to the fact that your life is abysmal. " Survivors of Narcissistic Family Abuse". Victim is a result. The only thing survived. Is the abuse. Then there's the internet for your overwhelming need to shout into the darkness. Ugh. Pardon the tirade.
You do not have to have anxiety to do that. That is bs. (source me, a person without too much anxiety)
Alternately, some people with anxiety don't do this because they find that it locks them into repetitive thinking and habits that make the anxiety stick around longer. (source me, a person with too much anxiety)
Load More Replies...Yes, and you already know you like it and don't have to pay much attention to know what's happening
Absolutely!!! I cannot have quiet. Golden Girls is my jam. It's on right now.
Ah... this explains my Golden Girls obsession! It started back when I used to work after highschool, come home, have a shower, go to bed. Right before I went to bed, I would put on GG and now, all these years later (that was 1990ish), I still put GG on right before bed. Four multitalented women with engaging storylines that made the show a comedy but also a drama. There were cancer and AIDS scares and understanding relatives who were a bit odd, it was like an extension of my own odd family! All four women are dead now, but their work lives on and I though I hate the themesong, just hearing the show come on is enough to relax me. That is something huge, considering I have many health problems and PTSD from being raised in a hoarder house by a mentally ill and abusive mother. The power of repetitive viewing really is an amazing comfort.
Yes, and I also sometimes peek at the endings in books because I want to know that everything is going to turn out okay. I hate books with tragic endings. I read to escape.
Yes, I want to climb inside the story and 'make everything all right.'
Load More Replies...i have been doing this since i was a child, i am 68 now. no one ever told me that this could be why. nice to have a reason for all the 'wasted time' i did all these years. and yes, been anxious since i was a kid
It’s an escape. The characters have let us into their life, it’s familiar and it’s safe.
very!! i want my brain to relax! i don't have to pay attention to something i've already seen, it's relaxing! i've watched MASH dozens of times over, why? cause it's funny and simple :)
I thought I was the only one that does that. knowing this comforts me
Yes, and every time I rewatch or re-read something I'm doing it with a new perspective...
Me watching Man of Steel for the 3456th time: nope, not true at all!!!!
OMG. I play specific verite voice over interviews, watch mojo videos, anime behind the scenes or mother's basement videos in the background while I work, and I just couldn't explain to someone why I do it when they pointed it out but then I can't stop even if it seems wierd. This might be it lol
This is totally me. I figured that it was anxiety that kept me from watching films and shows I havent already seen and it's, I guess, 'nice' to essentially have it confirmed.
I listen to the Harry Potter books over and over again to send me to sleep
Only if you don't want to get better and want to live in a cave. Your therapist just wants your money so they never really want to help just keep you feeling sick. Drs are just like Big Pharma
If the therapist isn't helping, stop going there and giving them your money.
Load More Replies...Yes. I use audiobooks to get to sleep, but it has to be something I've read before, it can't be anything new, or else I don't fall asleep.
Same. I feel the need to stay up to find out what happens next.
Load More Replies...It's a little embarrassing that I can quote any Bob's Burgers episode line by line.
I'm the opposite. If I'm rewatching a show, or reading a book again, it gives my brain too much time to wander and then I fall into a spiral of over thinking. If I need an escape from my anxiety, I need to get lost in something new so my mind can stay occupied.
This explains my whole life. I have a really hard time watching something new. It makes me really anxious. I usually have to find out the ending so I can relax and watch it.
Could this be why most of my "comfort films" are horror movies?
Maybe it's because you really like that show and want to experience again. Where is it written that people can only enjoy a show, movie, or book once and then they must move on? Could you imagine if they same were said about music?! I don't buy into this thought one bit. We are creatures of habit, but we are also creatures of personal taste.
I am waiting for my streaming service to say "Are you ok? You are watching CSI again (for the 12th time)."
Harry Potter audiobooks while I cover ... I have listened to the series over 12 times back to back
I havent watched anything new since got😂 i rather watch fringe or time team 10 more times
Yeeeah... I saw Pride and Prejudice with Keira, Pirates of Caribbean and other movies sooo many times this year I am embarrassed to admit... I dont even know, if I saw any new movie...
OMG...I never realised this was caused by anxiety. I do this all the time.
when I get hooked I just can't stop myself, I need to know what happens next, so I'll watch another episode and then another, etc. and find myself awake at 3 am but I can't fall asleep because I keep thinking about the show and wondering what's going to happen next, I'm excited, but I have to leave for work in less than 5 hours
Nope I don;t even watch the same Movies all the time I like changes and alternatives,
I hate it when psychiatrists tell me my behaviors arenot only crazy, but also unoriginal.
I even love to do the same vacations every year. It´s calming and reassuring because you´re already familiar. Waiters in restaurants and cafés recognize you. You know all the good places. You recover wonderfully :-)
I see a lot of book readers here and I would like to add that Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale is an engaging mystery that I have read four times, (my sister read it twice, my aunt read it twice, my cousin read it at least three times.) If you enjoy stories that "you can't put down", this one will do it. (Very brief description: an author wrote a book called The Thirteenth Tale, but only put 12 tales in the book. Many years later, the reclusive author wishes to write her biography, which is the 13th tale, and it is a mystery within mysteries. (It reminds me of the writing style of JK Rowling's Harry Potter saga, except it is all in one book. There are clues as you go along and you'll want to read it again as soon as you finish it.)
I have PTSD and don't usually watch or read the same things again because I get bored, BUT, I will go online and see what the ending of a show is, or read the ending of a book first, because I don't like the suspense feeling-too much like anxiety. Then I can relax and enjoy finding out how the ending came about. Might skip the whole thing if the ending sounds too depressing.
Absolutely true. It applies to people with depression too. When my depression gets bad I simply don't have the mental energy to watch something new.
I don't have anxiety but I choose calm programs to watch before going to bed. Usually about animals.
Absolutely! Back in the 90s, I had a stressful teaching job in a toxic workplace. When I came home, all I did was watch Law & Order and Roseanne reruns til bedtime, Monday - Friday.
When I had a complete nervous breaksown I bought box sets of all the tv shows that made me laugh. I sat there and watched them without even cracking a smile but at some subconscious level they got to me. They were a part of my healing process.
I can't seem to rewatch things even if I adore them because I just get so bored.
I don't rewatch the same episodes but I do watch complete series.. I like having the same main cast, I get upset if that changes.
Yep, Supernatural, practically every showing since it’s been on TNT…Don’t know why, and I’m 62 years old in November, but it is comforting for some weird reason…
Yes - and your sub conscience will draw you to situations that ARE familiar to you...(from your childhood often enough!)...this is why women(and men) end up w/ partners that can be abusive...if they grew up in a home that had tensions or abuse -they will subconscienciously choose a mate that will repeat these...'feelings'
Yes! Now it’s clear to me!! Thought it was just nothing else good on TV!!
Yup. I've seen the office, B99, friends, daisy jones & the six. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel so many times. Same with movies. Beetlejuice like 150x.
I couldnt understand what I didnt feel like reading new books, having in mind that Ive always loved doing so. .·´¯`(>▂
I have to google characters I like to see if they die otherwise I worry too much
I love new shows since they are a new impression and avoid watching things twice except they're really good because it would be an insane amount of wasted time. Anxious AF most of the time.
I don't have anxiety, but I'm Asperger with probably ADHS (not diagnosed yet) and I'm guilty of doing that including reading books over and over again. I've read Pillars of the Earth, The Kelewan Saga and many more at least 30 times.
I understand this but I have a slight variation applying to me. I very rarely can watch something twice because when watching something I absorb everything and it’s just boring the next time. Books on the other hand always have so much hidden that you don’t notice which is why I can read them indefinitely
Yeah. I do this very often. I hope my mental health improves. It requires a lot of things to change that are not in my control but still I hope.
Yes. I have show I watch over and over and over again.
I have watched Firefly and Serenity (in proper chronological order rather than the disastrous random rollout of episodes they did when it was first on TV) more times than I can possibly count, often just as something to fall asleep too. The same goes for Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager and the films of Hayao Miyazaki. This is particularly the case when I'm more stressed out and/or depressed than usual.
I just read this three times just to be sure. I feel comforted and safe
I also pause shows and read up on them online to find out what happens if the storyline is making me anxious. 😬
I listen to Sabrina the Teenage With every night to go to sleep. For about 3 years now.
Holy c**p!- this explains sooooo much about why I watch shows the way I do!?- I always check to know it has a happy ending before I watch it, and if it's a show I enjoy, I can literally watch it DOZENS of times over and over!
Reading this comment as I re-listen to the Harry Potter books for the ? time (and doing dishes). But I’ve never thought of myself as super anxious but there is something so amazing about revisiting a book at a different time in life. It should be recommended to all actually
Definitely true for me. After my husband died one of the few things that calmed me down was listening to my favorite audio books, top on the list was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, read by the author in his wonderfully rich, comforting, and expressive voice.
Absolutely. My therapist taught me this too. It's because with anxiety, you have a hard time going out of your comfort zone. And those with anxiety crave familiarity and routine. Anything outside that throws us off.
Very true. I almost only watch comedy. It doesn't scare me and no one dies.
That's why I've watched the same show, all seasons, all episodes 5 times
Yesss! Big bang theory on a loop! I also watch true crime to relax lol
I'm like this too. In fact I like to know the ending first to like, prepare myself. Then its like okay I know what happens let's read or watch the journey to that moment.
Yup! I watch the same 5 shows and if I do happen to watch a new show I google spoilers because I don't like not knowing
I’ve watched Futurama, SpongeBob, and Phineas and Ferb over and over again probably at least 45 times, maybe more
Yes. I’ve noticed when I get stressed and my anxiety starts to go up, I tend to rewatch my favorite movies and shows.
In the same vain you don't watch the final episode of your favourite show because you don't want it to end? Too me 20yrs to watch the final season of Startrek Voyager and 2 years the get to the final episode
I have watched MASH, the series, more times than i can count. So yeah, it's true.
I think another reason may be that anxiety makes you lose your focus, so you "disconnect" very easily. If you are reading or watching a story you already know, even if you "miss" parts of it, you won't get lost. You can just relax and continue watching/reading. I don't know if this lack of concentration is common in people with anxiety, but I'm getting really worried.
I don’t have anxiety, but I like to re-read favourite books and re-watch favourite programmes. Some are too good to only enjoy once.
Marvel movies for me! in 2021, I went through all of it, in chronological order, including the Disney+ shows, and one shots; loved it. It took me 3 weeks Mon - Fri!
Does watching "The Detectorists" and "Arrested Development" 30 times mean I have anxiety?
Absolutely. I'm re-watching the Simpsons for I don't know what time again!
I think tax avoidance is trashier when the rich do it because they're just being greedy monsters
"I’m truly amazed that the project has had such a positive response on Twitter, literally overnight,” Aidan went on to say. “We’ve had a long-standing presence on Instagram, but I’m so glad the content we share has now found a home on Twitter as well.”
And when it comes to what Aidan decides to share to his followers, he previously told Bored Panda, "In all honesty, I really share whatever interests me. I love learning new things and when I come across something unusual or unexpected, I can’t help but share it.”
Because Today Years Old had only recently taken off on Twitter when we last spoke with Aidan, he noted that it’s difficult to know what content resonates the most with followers. “But we hope to continue to be a daily source of trending facts and discoveries in a variety of topics,” he added.
Unfortunately the sleazy dates will lie and say "no", when, in fact, there is someone
I wish we had a cry room at work. I'd use it every day. Maybe multiple times.
The founder also wanted to encourage readers to never stop seeking out new information. "There is always something new to learn in our world. You can never really know everything,” he previously shared. "I hope this project will allow people to find new interests and encourage us to continue to be curious about the world around us."

Learning something new every day and getting in some laughs every day are both key to maintaining a happy, healthy life. So by following a few Today Years Old accounts, you can have all of your bases covered. On X, you’ll learn why the highways in the United States are numbered the way that they are, and on TikTok, you’ll learn that San Francisco residents have been taping notes in the windows of their cars urging people to stop breaking into them. Meanwhile, on Instagram, you’ll find hilarious screenshots of silly conversations that have taken place online.
I just tried the same thing and I am writing this from the Emergency Room.
According to Everyday Health, you can’t be stressed and laugh at the same time, so if you find yourself holding onto some tension, don’t hesitate to find something funny to help you relax. “Just a moment of laughter can allow us to think more clearly and creatively and strengthen a sense of connection with others,” clinical psychologist Natalie Christine Dattilo, PhD told Everyday Health. Squeeze in a few moments to scroll through funny memes or exchange silly stories with your loved ones, and you’ll be sure to have a brighter day than you would have otherwise.
We are mammals! Surrounded by food we are designed to eat as much of as we can(high fat/sugar), as it should have been as rare as hens teeth to come across. We are meant to lounge about and whatnot. No wonder so many of us suffer mental health issues, especially anxiety and depression. Our societal advancements don't mesh well with our still existing basic instincts (inside artificial structures, artifical light affecting circadian rhythm etc)
We hope you’ve been able to get a kick out of some of these memes, pandas! Keep upvoting the screenshots and pics you find particularly hilarious, and let us know in the comments which ones are the most relatable to you. Then, if you’re interested in checking out Bored Panda’s previous publications featuring Today Years Old, you can find them right here and here!
Even tho I know it's her dress, it's funny to think the fairy godmother threw in a butt lift too
I got ok at this. But only mastered it once or twice (all rings on hooks). How did you guys do?
My boyfriend was once kinda complaining about how complicated my family situation is. And he's right, I don't blame him but he was framing it as if that's so strange and I then had to point out to him that looking around our closest friends and their families - he's actually the weird one for having mostly good relationship with his parents who actually listen to feedback etc.
My doctor has never asked me that. I kinda wish he would.
Noise at night. The bloody crickets won’t shut up and there’s construction going on in the neighbouring plot at 11 fricking pm!
Yeah this "you need to WORK on this relationship" is b******t. I mean, yes, make an effort, make sure to not exclude the other person but come on ... it's not WORK.
Same both ways. I can tell if my partner is miff by her breating pattern.
That's why they sometimes find extinct animals. "Hey, hasn't this [random animal] been extinct since 1756 when we ate the last specimen?"
If they can't understand this, then it's probably best to just get rid of them as friends. No need for extra, unnecessary stress in your life
When I'm not reading or editing images I prefer the world to be a bit blurry tbh. It's bad enough.
