50 Times Teachers Hung The Funniest Signs In Their Classrooms And They Ended Up Being Praised Online
A lot of us are still nostalgic for the good old days when the only things we’d have to worry about were getting to class on time and doing our homework. When you finish school, you might start to realize just how awesome some of your teachers were. They’re the authority figures who always put in extra effort when explaining topics to you. They’re the everyday superheroes who’d give you life advice. They’re the artistic souls who would spend hours on colorful signs and charts just to make learning more fun.
Bored Panda has collected a wide variety of informative, supportive, hilarious, and just downright awesome signs that teachers have put up in their classrooms. Scroll down to see the best of the best, and remember to upvote the pics that you liked the most.
Do we have any teachers, professors, or other educators in the crowd tonight? We’d love to hear what tips and tricks you rely on to help your students learn better. You can leave us a comment or two at the bottom of this article, dear Pandas.
Bored Panda wanted to learn more about the role of being an educator, the importance of visual aids, and the secrets to making eye-catching signs, so we reached out to Lisa McLendon from the University of Kansas. Lisa is the William Allen White Professor of Journalism and Mass Communications and the Coordinator at the Bremner Editing Center at KU.
"Visual aids, audio aids, written aids—they’re all good. Presenting information to students in more than one format can help students grasp it more quickly and easily," she told us. Scroll down for our full interview with Lisa.

Lisa from the Univesity of Kansas gave Bored Panda some very useful advice on making striking signs for education. "I’m more of a word person than a designer, so I tend to keep signs really simple:
- High contrast: Dark type/light background.
- Uncluttered: Nothing there that doesn’t need to be. Just because your program lets you add sparkles, icons, gradient backgrounds, etc. doesn’t mean you should use them.
- Clear: People read signs at a glance, so use a typeface that is easily readable (many script fonts are hard to read), a size that is large enough, and concise wording."

Bored Panda was also interested in hearing Lisa's opinion about how much educators should go beyond simply teaching the curriculum.
"The best professors engage with their students, demonstrate a love of learning, and support students in their studies and as they launch their careers. For me, this means keeping an eye out for potential internships, staying connected with my own network to keep my skills and connections fresh, writing reference letters, talking with students about career paths and their plans, and generally helping them succeed however I can. Academics have some power to shape students’ futures, but mostly it depends on the students’ own interests and efforts," she said.
Being a teacher or professor is no easy task even in the best of times. But during a global pandemic? Things are harder than ever and some academics are finding it hard to adapt to rapidly-changing rules and regulations.
Teacher Kevin, who has 20 years of experience being an educator and counselor, previously told Bored Panda that the Covid-19 lockdowns have been “very taxing” for a lot of staff. The shift from live to online teaching hasn’t been easy and the older educators especially have generally had a harder time adapting.
"The older teachers who are not technologically literate simply couldn't keep up," he said.

As someone who frequently stared off into space during chemistry class, this probably would have educated me a lot.
"Although I can use tech well, building and maintaining open lines of communication with students is surprisingly difficult. Students are less comfortable writing an e-mail for help than asking in person. Covid will dramatically change how we teach, which will include more online options moving forward,” the teacher told Bored Panda.
It’s not just visual queues and gorgeous charts that can help students learn. According to teacher Kevin, music can be a great tool as well. It helps students focus and gets them in the right mood for learning.

"Music is a highly undervalued tool. Plan to attempt some data collection on whether music can help certain students during specific tasks. Playing remixes of the same song during the entirety of a week's lesson, then allowing students to listen to that soundtrack during test-taking has potential,” he wanted to share some of his wisdom with everyone.

"New educators need empathy and emotional intelligence over topic mastery. I truly believe the best teachers are the ones who can empathize best with their students, as they can understand how a student made a mistake, and how to fix it. Students are extremely stressed, and making the work more difficult does not equal a better education. Collaborate to make reasonable goals," the educator said that support and being able to relate to students are key.
This Is The Sign Hanging On The Piano In My School's Band Room
Found In My Local Elementary School
This should be not only in every school, but at every work, public places etc. In every country. Just everywhere.
It should be at everybodies' homes, at some place where you see it daily and it's hard to ignore. Maybe in front of the toilet?
Load More Replies..."Search Wikipedia to learn about a source's reputation." I know I'm old because when I was in school, we were explicitly taught NOT to believe Wikipedia. The school librarians would intentionally mess up a page as a lesson for us not to believe it. For my grade, they chose a page about a rare species of endangered cat and edited it to say it came from Mars. Lol. Times have changed.
At least wikipedia is a good starting point for further reseach. Especially the articles that cite sources. And if you see something that needs improvement, you can correct it yourself (with sources preferrably) for the next reader.
Load More Replies...I have taught all ages in several different countries. You would not believe the number of adults who get ALL of their news from Facebook. Literally no other source. Their entire knowledge of what goes on outside their apartment/place of work comes from FB. People do know where their news comes from, the problem is they don't see it as an issue that it all comes from FB...
Yeah, it really makes you wonder why they have so many newspapers delivered to the staff room!
Load More Replies...They didn't teach us about credit or taxes in Canadian high school, but I'll never forget the English 10-1 section on advertizements and persuasion techniques. Always. Being able to tell exactly how a newscaster or ad is appealing to your emotions and what techniques they're trying to use to manipulate you has been incredibly useful.
It was like a 10 page section of the book. It should be printed up and posted everywhere
Load More Replies..."Check wikipedia" lol. Anyone can edit a wiki entry. I wouldn't consider that a rock solid verification of facts.
Wikipedia is actually pretty well policed. If you f**k with it, it will likely get taken down in an hour or two
Load More Replies...It's a good place to start. It claims itself to be "verifiable" not the Truth. Nothing is infallible. The best thing about it is that it cites its sources - one of the key things conspiracy theorists and rumour mongers do not do. Those sources can lead to new and verifiable information. It is a very useful tool. But like fire and screwdrivers, should be used with caution.
Load More Replies...It's not just emotional responses that should keep you critical though. Say, for a silly example, news about a boy band visiting can be exciting to their audience. It's also about how expected something is, or how diverse the channels are. Comparing it to whatever is outside your safe bubble etc.
I disagree. I have found that people seldom fact check, even their deepest held opinions, at any age. It is hard to get your head around how much bad info is out there and even the most innocent ideas, collective or individual memories, or what we take as "fact" are often wrong. And when we (and by we I mean everyone of every age) actually do bother to check, it's usually to either try and prove someone wrong or out if idle curiosity. If you doubt, try randomly fact checking 5 things you think you know a day. It will blow your mind as to how much bad info we have going around. We are truly in the misinformation age.
Load More Replies...Use DuckDuckGo. Google censors their search results. There’s always at least two sides to every story! Just saying
Fox News isn't about facts. They are well aware of it. They intentions slant stories by leaving out vital context, not or under reporting opposing views, and mixing opinion with facts. The sad part is Fox News doing this has lead MSNBC and CNN to alter their formats to this type of behavior. Of the big 3 news orgs, all of them of guilty of this. Although Fox does it worse, the end is the same. Good journalism has been exchanged for ratings and viewership. I don't want anyone spoon feeding my news. As an adult I am capable of making my own decisions and opinions. They need to bring back the rules a company must follow before they can call themselves news, bring back the limits as to how many and what type of mediums a parent company can own in the news industry, and make the Big Three run a disclaimer stating something to the effect of "the following stories are opinions".
Load More Replies...The tips are very good & need to apply to adults as well. It's his that this teacher cares about the next generation (s)
The fact that these people think of Wikipedia as a valid source makes me happy
I love it! Made in Canada!😃 Even better! We should always check our sources. (A proud Canadian graphic artist)
Not true. This specifically tells you to engage with Wikipedia and top google search results to determine the trustworthiness of a source. Those are controlled by mainstream voices, and would declare those as trustworthy. It's about stopping critical thinking, and engaging with a subject matter unless the writer is accepted by the current powers that be.
Load More Replies...Genuinely, does anyone know where I can buy a copy of this poster for my school?
If you expand the pic, you will see that it says www.newsliteracy.ca on the bottom. Might be a good place to start looking.
Load More Replies...Just because you read something somewhere doesn't make it true. Hey, who made that poster? Seriously folks, check your facts.
I remember being in college (not that long ago, lol) and we were firmly told to NOT use Wikipedia as a source for research. How times have changed. :)
Love rhis especially the point about checking facts when you get emotional. I am Canadian but haven't seen this ..
This is genius? Kids can go home & stop their parents & grandparents from watching Fox with their cute little faces!
Wiki is actually very well patrolled, any edits on most pages are reviewed and straight up lies get removed quickly
Load More Replies...What if the news is that your favorite book is getting a movie? Then can you be excited? Or, if you're a purist, angry?
My Dad literally criticized something I said that was correct about his hero politician caught lying by saying "Yeah, yeah and where did you get that information, the internet?" So I said "Yep, just like 99% of the world, where do you get yours, a direct handwritten note from No 10 or a personal letter from the Houses of Parliament? " 🙄
I think this should be mandatory at the front of every news cast. Faux News would have a fit, but I bet the reliable news sources would be fine with it. Not too long ago my local news had a segment very similar to this, about misinformation and COVID.
Wikipedia…..REALLY?????? This page was started by some random guy years ago as a joke and now he’s embarrassed of it. ANYBODY can put/write/create a Wikipedia page and say WHATEVER they want! It’s such a joke! Tip: get your “research” info from reliable and factual websites.
Wikipedia is an incredible source of free info. They cite all their sources and any stupid prank edits are immediately removed
Load More Replies...Very good... except... Wikipedia can literally be written by ANYONE, so it is unreliable without further back-up. Google is a paid for source so its offerings should be taken with a grain of salt and further research be done. Overall- take nothing at face value.
Wiki can be edited by anyone, true but its incredibly well patrolled and if you are just making s**t up they'll remove it
Load More Replies...This would have no impact on the people who won't let facts stand in the way of their opinions.
Search Wikipedia? No self-respecting person uses Wikipedia for ANY kind of research!
Wiki is great. They cite all their sources which is more than you can say for most other websites
Load More Replies...Wikipedia is open to abuse, which is why the creator has disavowed it as a reliable source of information. Google, likewise, is controlled by Leftists who dictate what your search results will be. Wise up. This poster is simply another attempt to steer your thinking from independence to dependence.
Go Canada! This should be posted in every school in the US, as well.
This is absolutely correct, and props to the teach for giving them this info early. Adults today dont even use these obvious processes
Yeah most of my news comes from Big Pharma propaganda that's why I don't pay attention to it. Does anyone have a source of news that doesn't take funding from a major industry?
This one is literally a boiling down of an ideology that decries critical thinking and wants you to only access approved sources. It tells you when you hear something outside what is accepted as an acceptable source, you need to stop reading what they have to say and only look at what Wikipedia and the top google search results say. It completely eliminates critical thinking by allowing others to do your thinking on a given topic for you, and relies on wikipedia to determine if a source is trustworthy to even continue reading. This isn't good, it's insidious and allows for an echo chamber where no new thoughts come in. The fact that it's posted in a school is disgusting.
So not true. This is where critical thinking begins. You don't have to use Google or Wikipedia. You can use any you'd like or go to the library. If you watch a YouTube video, it's probably not reliable.,
Load More Replies...Wiki is incredible. They are well patrolled and cite their sources
Load More Replies...Canada even brought back the house hippo commercials to encourage kids to question what they see online.
Sure, Wikipedia and Google will help you find the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth...
Wiki cites all its sources which you can then go on to read
Load More Replies...It's too bad the people that need this, would never take the time to read it!!
I have heard too many adults say, "if it's the news, it must be true".... it is so important to educated everyone about this and it's wonderful to see it starting in elementary schools in some places.
These should be in the break room of every adult's office or in at home zoom meetings...
Copies of this could be posted in every library, EVERY school, and perhaps all the newspapers and television news break rooms. (Not surprised to see "Canada")
My best friends son 39 believes everything the news tells him and the news is no lie!
I totally agree the elementary school, Jr. High school and High School especially most especially in the Universities and Colleges...
Agree, Karla. The bottom three should be as big as the main message.
Screenshot so I can text this to my mom and dad...Easier for them to understand than my endless, crazed person type explanations about the need for checking sources, facts and emotions
NOOOOO! WIKIPEDIA IS INNACURATE! ANYONE CAN EDIT WIKIPEDIA! YOU SHOULD USE [website last updated in 1987] INSTEAD! obvious-sa...3f-png.jpg
Google and Wikimedia are not the leaders of factual information for everything. They have their biases.
EVERYTHING has bias. part of critical research is identifying those biases and reading from a wide variety of perspectives
Load More Replies...A critic once said we are not educated to be online or watch television and now more professors and phycologist have been stating this fact more and more. Which I totally agree =:3

Meanwhile, an educator’s role isn’t limited to imparting knowledge just within the confines of the school, either. Primary school teachers Tom Rose and Jack Parnnett from the United Kingdom shared with Bored Panda just how hectic things can get when you go on a class trip. No number of quality signs that you make in advance can really teach your class to be calm, quiet, and orderly throughout the excursion.
"School trips are very challenging, especially for newer teachers, because of the constant changing of locations or 'transitions' as teachers usually refer to them as," they told Bored Panda.

Most Of The Adults Also Need To Learn How To Apologize
In case anyone asks: These are not options. This is the order/process in which you apologize sincerely.
"Many teachers fear PE for the same basic reason, which is: not having a safe confined space to teach (as they are used to when they are in a classroom). The extra pressure of trying to impress the parent/carer helpers is another thing that gets in the way of many teachers doing their job too, which is again much more obvious with less experienced teachers," the teachers explained just how challenging leaving the classroom with your students can be.
"Beyond the transitions and dealing with the other adult help, you then have to deal with the many unexpected things that crop up along the way, such as the transport issues, sudden changes of weather, stumbling across a bee's nest (that was Tom in Bushy Park) amongst many other potentials," they shared.

According to the British teachers, educators ought to try and go on the trip alone to rehearse for the real school trip. Preparation and repetition are powerful tools in an educator’s arsenal.
"If that’s not possible, then talk to someone else who's done the trip before and/or complete the route via Google street view. This then informs your plan and your 'risk assessment' which is a document that contains all of the potential hazards and problems that you could incur ranging from walking near dogs on a lead to losing a child at a train station,” Tom and Jack said.

"Planning a trip is one thing, but having backup options if things go wrong is another that requires composure—‘box breathing’ is our ‘go-to’ method if we are stressed and want to calm down. Box breathing is a practice where you breathe in for 4 seconds, hold breath for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds and repeat until your heart rate slows down," they offered advice on how to calm down if you get overwhelmed.
The teachers told Bored Panda that educators should be aware of which of their students might need more management than others before starting the trip. Some kids will naturally act out more when they find themselves in new surroundings and will challenge their teachers.

Tom and Jack advised their fellow teachers to always allocate more time to each step of the trip than they think they’ll need. What’s more, they should reach out to their coworkers for advice. Something else to keep in mind is that students’ parents gossip quite a bit, so it’s important to be diplomatic when briefing them if they’re joining the class trip.

The teacher duo also advised their fellow educators to focus on themselves. Educators have an instinct to take care of everyone else and forget their own needs, so they need reminding that they’re important, too. Getting enough sleep, remembering to pack a lunch for yourself, scheduling some time off for after the trip—these are all things that they need to remember.

I appreciate the teachers that try to be current and adapt their ideas to what is popular on social media and in the kids' lives.
Society relies too much on the idea of "killing" things to describe everyday actions (killing time, killing it at something, you kill me, it was killer), and it is a subliminal and terrible message, the same as, say, pervasive sexist ideas ("man up"; "he's got balls"; "good girls", etc.).

So sample size of n=1 makes your experience a fact? Across the entire earth?
Load More Replies...Haha it’s funny because we have dozens of school shootings every year and children die.
