What’s the weather like up there? Do you play basketball? Were you always this tall? That’s just a bite-sized collection of the types of questions that tall people have to deal with on a daily basis. However, most of them smile, chuckle, and get on with their day without worrying too much.
It becomes very obvious that a person is the tallest person around when there’s a short person right next to them for comparison. For more humor on height differences, don't miss our short people jokes that highlight the fun side of being vertically challenged.
This often creates comical tall vs short situations where tall people look like giants from fairy tales (or Hagrid from Harry Potter), and short people start to resemble the tenacious hobbits from The Lord of the Rings.
To brighten up your week with some humor, Bored Panda spent lots of time cultivating, growing, and perfecting this list of the most eyebrow-raising times tall and short people stood next to one another for a perfect height comparison. Scroll down, enjoy, and leave us a comment with your thoughts.
When you’re done with this list, check out Bored Panda’s previous posts about tall people people problems and the times that people traveled to Japan and realized they’re too tall for it.

There are advantages to being short and advantages to being tall. BBC Future writes that taller human beings, when running for political office, tend to get more votes; they also tend to earn more money.

Being tall can be a real boon in sports because long legs help you run faster and farther than your opponents. However, being small has its bonuses as well: nerve impulses travel from limbs to brains faster, which means reaction times are faster and the individual in question is more nimble. That can be a huge plus for martial artists just like Jackie Chan. Furthermore, shorter and smaller people are better at snowboarding, gymnastics, skating, diving, and skiing than their taller counterparts.

Being a 6-foot tall guy myself, I often find that I’m rarely (if ever) the tallest or shortest around. I’m pretty much average. And, unfortunately, nobody asks me if I’m a professional basketball player or Samwise Gamgee, so sometimes I’m a bit jealous of the attention others get. But then I realize being middle-of-the-road in terms of height isn’t all that bad. What about you, dear Pandas, how tall are you? What’s it like? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.

Great and funny pics, a nice representation of human diversity! Just confused about the feet and inches, when will the metric system be adopted everywhere ;)????
As an American I agree. We need to kill off the imperial system. Medicine already comes in metric measurements so it's not like it's not already in our society. I remember learning it in grade school. It makes Sooo much more sense than our imperial system.

Load More Replies...My husband and my eldest son are both very tall. I feel extremely short when I stand in the middle. I am 1.70m. They are 30cm taller then me and my son is still growing. I always tease him by saying that we work and pray to get to heaven one day. He just grows there. My youngest son is 13 years old, and just 2cm shorter then me. So guess who's gonna be the short s**t in the house...

Load More Replies...I am 181 cm, my husband 186 cm and our kids are already tall: my son is 9 years old and he's 147cm tall and my daughter is 6 and she's 129 cm. I don't really want her to be so tall because I remember myself as a teen being very ashamed of my height and unable to find suitable shoes, but nowadays everything is different, so I hope she'll be happy :)
Just Fyi. If you take the length of your child at age 2 and double it, you'll get their adult length.

What an absolutely AMAZING sight---tall woman with short man. I didn't like being stared at, but I see from this article that people get used to it and take it in stride. Good attitude.
When I was in high school, I was at least 2 inches shorter than all of my friends (and most of them were a lot taller than that!), and I am a huge Lord of the Rings nerd, so my one friend made me this t-shirt in her graphics class that I still wear, and it says "I'm quite TALL for a hobbit!"
My dad was 6’5” and my mother is 5’4” I am 5’6” everyone on my moms side is short and everyone on my fathers side is at least 6’ including the women. It will be really interesting to see where our son ends up because my fiancé is 5’9”. Genetics is crazy.
I don't understand some of the couples and how they manage to stay together, there must be so many challenges. I would think just having to modify the height of the bathroom sink and toilet would be a major problem.
You obviously didn't meet many then. Europeans really have all the height ranges out there, and we're not all robust and muscular. Also, Japanese people are not all hobits either. Been to Tokyo not so long ago, saw it for myself. Furthermore, Koreans are pretty tall too, especially the younger generations, and they're as east Asian as could be. Also, what do you mean by "normal westerners" anyway? My short Italian friend is a very normal and very a western person, as much as me, a tall Slavic woman.

We have just binge-re-watched the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings movies.......Hobbits are real!!!!!!
Being a tad under 5'3", I can definitely relate. Hubby still laughs when I climb cabinets when cooking or cleaning kitchen.
My daughter is a senior in an American university - she's just hit 5'1", her roommate and best friend is 6', and they're both slim and blond. When they go out together, they are often mistaken for mother and daughter, which my daughter plays up for laughs (calls her roomie "mom", etc. ;-) But they both think it's fun).

I got a first cousin that just retired from the army a year or two ago. He was an officer in one of the armoured divisions stationed in Europe. He is 6' 8", which, at the time he went into the Army, was the max height for what he wanted to do. He told me once that it was down right funny to see the jaw dropping expressions on the faces of European civilians when they saw him get out of a car, in particular a small Fiat or Mini Cooper.

What I don't get is why tall women need to wear high heels? Sure it may be for the looks but why would you make your life more difficult?
In elementary school (4th 5th and 6th grade to specific) I was REALLY REALLY short (and still am). I was best friends with the tallest kid in the school.
Reading this reminded me of my parents, my Mum's average height but my Dad's 6ft 8!
in Croatia, if you're under 6ft (180 cm) you're considered a midget, a dwarf, a bottle cap... and so on. I'm 6ft7" and I'm just a tad above average. Dalmatians are tall people.
I'm a 178cm tall Croatian woman and I think you're exaggerating. 170cm was considered pretty average for both men and women back when I used to live there. But indeed I noticed that nowadays when and if I see other fellow Croatians here in Korea, indeed they tend to be as tall as I or taller. But then, again, I was born and grew up in Istria. Everybody knows we're different. ^_- (Joke. Peace, and nice seeing other Croatians here)

Nah, we're just a small, northern, densely populated country. So it's a genetic struggle to get yourself some of that sunlight! Plus we live below sea level, so there's that. ;) But seriously, there is a study that indicates natural selection (taller man were more fertile) played a roll, and the fact that dutch women prefered taller men. That presumably all happened during the baby boom.
