Poland... Polska. The Land of Fields. Home to 39 million people, one of the oldest restaurants in Europe, the biggest castle in the world, the first upside-down house, the invention of the paper clip. And some of the longest, most hard-to-pronounce names ever.

Also Italian and Portuguese moms. Heck, all of the European moms anyway.
I was born in Brazil from those moms and that's my table.

Add any Southern Mom or Grandma, because a simple breakfast, lunch or supper is a full spread. Not to mention any leftovers will be packed up and sent home with you. Absolutely no one leaves Mama or Granny's house empty handed.
The Veterans Color Guard groups XO,my C.O., who is Polish laughed his head off at this and said this is true
And full of grease. I’m part Polish but I absolutely hate Polish food (unless my mom makes the perogis because she doesn’t use a lot of butter). Everything is over cooked and filled with meat.
Full Pole here and I agree with you when it comes to having heavy, fatty food. I like SOME aspects of our national cuisine, but our dishes really are very, very greasy and too heavy for me to eat on daily basis. On the orher hand, I disagree that everythjbg is overcooked - it really depends from who is cooking. Also, while we do eat a lot of meat, it's not true that most of our dishes are filled with it - for example everything traditionally eaten during Christmas Eve (we celebrate Christmas Eve more than Christmas Day itself, so we have a lot of dishes specifically connected to this day) is meat-free as Christmas Eve used to be a day of fast.

Poland’s ‘upside down house’ became the first of its kind on the planet. And since then, several others have popped up (or down) around the world. Czapiewski’s work aimed to teach visitors about the country’s political history, and its relationship with communism. The architect’s message: life in Communist Poland turned the world upside down.
As Atlas Obscura reports, “The upside down house is essentially a fully furnished home like any other, but took much longer than normal to build as workers kept becoming disoriented, forcing them to stop work. It wasn’t even built simply upside down, but on a tilt as well, essentially eliminating the comfort of a reliable, flat surface.”
Visitors enter the house by climbing through the attic window, and are able to walk around on the ceiling once inside. The interior is furnished with 1970s decor and a television shows propaganda from that era. Many have reported feeling dizzy and a bit confused after visiting the tourist attraction.
It's an Eastern European thing, I guess. Greek moms do that too! I'm 48 and my mom still does that 😅
I can’t imagine Europeans wearing that to be honest. We just don’t care that much about stuff like cursing. It’s still funny to me that the US even censors TV and radio. Must be annoying to listen to a song and hear “beep” all the time.
And that is actually a big problem here as Catholic Curch has a big sway over our politics and our lives in general, especially when it comes to older generations. As a result our people often are very unfriendly toward LGBT people, we have religion in schools (though it's no longer obligatory, yay!), our abortions are mostly illegal, day-after pills hard to obtain and only with prescription and many other Church-morals-related problems.
Does this not apply to every country? It's standard here in New Zealand too.
sry but "everywhere" is north America in this case... we have the flat ones in Germany
Actually, Poland's legal drinking age is 18 - higher than in many Western European countries. But it is true that many of us try alcohol earlier (quite often with our parents knowledge as they believe that it's better to try it in controlled environment than get unconscious drunk during a party) and we have rather liberal attitude toward drinking
Hahaha - I kid you not, we did this in Lanzarote on holiday. polish-xma...fabb1f.jpg
"Which aspect of Poland mentioned in the article surprised you the most?" - option missing: There was an article?
