"I don't consider myself a graphic designer, it is more of a hobby," he told The Telegraph. "When I first started using image manipulation software, it was something new and not as widespread as it is now, so everyone was learning and experimenting."

"I did some funny edits for friends and family, and they ended up on the internet. Apparently, people found it quite entertaining and asked for more — that’s how I ended up creating my Twitter account."

While James is a very well-known social media sensation, however, he doesn’t seem to feel comfortable in the spotlight. There’s only one picture of him online, and this was the only interview with the press we could find. While the creator tends to step away from the public eye, he prefers that others get some attention — in the funniest possible way.

James is well aware of the humorous impact he has on social media platforms. "The omnipresence of comedy in social media has created a new way of delivering information to the public," he said. "Entertainment accounts cater to a wider audience, delivering current news and addressing social issues wrapped in humor. It makes it easier to work through sensitive subjects."

However, "It is now quite a trend to get offended by almost everything," he added. While some people may get upset by James’ hilarious shenanigans, his work clearly has good intentions. For example, many followers also applaud the times he simply refused to carry out a request to edit the photos. He'll just share a touching message about the person in the picture, reminding us that nobody’s perfect and that there’s more to social media culture than selfies and likes. By doing so, James challenges unrealistic beauty standards that are so evident online, as well as promotes the importance of self-acceptance and welfare.

Moreover, he also founded the James Fridman Foundation as a way to help young people handle the difficulties they face today. "Our mission is to support and help children and young people in developing their skills, understanding, and capabilities that will enable them to navigate the obstacles they encounter as they grow and participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals."

As it states on the foundation’s website, modern society creates many hardships for the young that can impact their mental well-being and healthy development. "Lack of knowledge, understanding and appropriate skills on how to build resilience and emotional shield leads to an inability to work through challenges modern life has put upon them," it says, aiming to help and support children and young people affected by social issues through art, humor, and creativity.
