Millennials are choosing pets over kids for a ton of reasons, from cost (an average of $3085 a year to raise a dog, $12-14,000 for a child) to freedom, basic companionship and not having to wipe their butts.
While not everyone thinks that this is a good thing and sure, the two things are so vastly different that the comparison is a stretch. But after a busy day at a job that doesn't offer the same security or benefits that your parents grew accustomed to, what would you prefer to come home to? A little fluffy bundle of joy who just wants to play and cuddle, or a demanding child that needs to be cooked for, cleaned after, homework and so on?
Obvious, when you think about it! We here at Bored Panda have compiled a hilarious list of all the memes millennials are sharing to show they prefer animal babies to human ones, just in case you need further convincing. Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

I had my mother crochet me blankets for my cats. She grumbled about it because she's a dog person and I don't want kids. So now I spam her with pics of the cats with the blankets she made for them, lol. Sammy-Lucy...b11e5b.jpg
I am a horse, dog, and cockatoo person (of course they are persons too!). Never into cats. As long as their parent is responsible and does not allow the to run around every day and night outside where they can go out and kill Mother Nature's babies for fun, they are fine with me. If we have any hanging around our ranch, We live trap them and try to find the owner. If not, we take them to animal control in our county. They need to be kept inside. Safer for them, and safer for the little ones outside.
Load More Replies...I think my parents would not be mad if they got doggo grandchildren. They didn't give me my baby clothes, though. But I hope the dog's grandparents are happy to have a grandchild, even if it's not human. I know that being a dog does NOT require talking about and dealing with issues that human children deal with. Or putting new people into a difficult place and f-ing up their young lives. No, I can't face that.
Your child is beautiful!! I want to squeeze it’s cheeks or hug so tight!
Absolutely adorable! I would LOVE to sit down and see all the photos of this wonderful fluffy kid! The two-legged variety NOT--They are SO boring!

I am going to end up doing this if my oldest doesn't start having babies soon.
Same. And before anyone starts blaming parents for not controlling their children, sometimes they just can't. Take my little brothers for example. When someone picks up a bad habit from school that they think is cool, then have fun getting it out of them. Time outs, groundings, and spankings don't seem to work either. I'm only a teen, (which in our current society means very little anyhow) but from what I see, parenthood is hell. I will NEVER willingly have a kid.
That little quote on the side to remind you that we do not deserve dogs
We're so lucky to have the choice now! In my grandmother's time, women had children. Period.
I bought a townhouse with three bed room, me and my girl have four adopted cats. its the cats house, we live there just to feed them. :-)
I wouldn't mind if the human race dies out... We've been around long enough, we've messed up big time... Might as well leave
You'll change your mind when you're 25. You'll change your mind when you're 30. You'll change your mind when you're 35. You'll change your mind when your biological clock kicks in. Well I'm 41 and haven't still changed my mind, so back off!
The best baby at the baby shower... The only one everyone's gonna love more than their own babies
Kids drop and break stuff and do not sit still when asked to... Dogs pick up whatever you ask them to and sit still like good Bois and gals... Choose wisely
Why is this even a debate? Dogs and cats and hamsters and birds and literally EVERY ANIMAL is better than humans, any time
It’s a debate because when people have kids they get Stockholm syndrome.

Load More Replies...Millennial parents and Gen-X are suuuuuper jealous of millennials who aren’t parents. JEALOUS AF. That’s why they always make these bitter comments on threads like this. Baby boomers just don’t get it because they grew up not knowing that child rearing is a choice. It was just what everyone did. Parents are jealous of childfree people and they want everyone else to be as miserable as them. A 30 year old mom looks 42 and struggles to wrangle her ugly, sticky toddler. Then she sees a vibrant 35 year old woman who looks 28 smiling with her spouse and having fun relaxing and of course the mom is jealous. That’s why they can’t stand hearing about people who don’t want kids. I guarantee you Kjorn and all the downvoted miserable parents here are just jealous. I’ll enjoy looking good and traveling the world with my hot husband while you sit back and waste away with a bratty kid screaming in your ear. I have an actual life to live.
You are so right! So many parents try hard to reject their pain and regret for having had children, and get bitter and aggressive with CF people because they remind them that a life without kids is possible, acceptable and enjoyable. They are torn with guilt and torment because they love their kids but also hate the life they are forced to live because of them. They feel trapped and struggle with their feelings. Then you have the paedofanatics, obsessed with themselves and their brats, who can't accept someone doesn't find them amazing like they do, and scold you for that..
Load More Replies...Where are the cats and/or kittens though? They're just as cute and rewarding!
Dogs are so much better than a screaming, crying, helpless baby. The world is way overpopulated.
The overpopulation doesn’t come from people having a few kids though, it comes from people in certain countries without access to birth control and limited knowledge on human reproduction having way more than they would want if they had a choice.
Load More Replies...The more 'developed' the country is, the lower the birthrate (compare Somalia to Japan). It has nothing to do with millenials, or pets.
When women have access to education and career choices, they don't always opt to become mothers. Developed countries treat women as humans; undeveloped countries treat women as brood sows.

Oh come on! Everyone should live as they want to live. I love my daughter so much an I can understand why someone don't want children. But I would never have a pet instead... She gives me so much back and I love to take care of her and see her grow.
I agree Loraine and I believe you that you’d much rather have your daughter than just a pet. The issue is the disrespect childfree people get when we explain that we don’t like or don’t want kids. You wouldn’t have experienced that because you probably never told anyone you didn’t want kids. But the way people treat us for not being into the idea of children is ridiculous. People get so offended and say some dumb and rude s**t.
Load More Replies...Every person has the right to decide if they want children, pets etc. You don't need to worry about what I think on the matter or comment even once.
I have zero inclination to try to "sell" anyone on having kids. In fact, I think sterilization should be more accessible And encouraged for people who know they don't want to be parents. Currently, it's difficult for younger men and women to have these procedures and I think it's irresponsible of doctors to create these barriers. What child benefits from an unwilling parent?
I'm glad my mom shares the same opinion on not having kids. Her support means a lot to me. One day I want to get couple of dogs from shelter and give them warm home.
Yeah, she doesn’t want you to make the same mistake as she did. . . When she had you,

They've done nothing wrong please don't blame it on them. Let's just support each other no matter what we choose.
Personally having to choose a pet over a child is, in my opinion, the best birth control in the world. The earth is dark, full of hate, lies and on the brink of destruction with overpopulation so yeah I will also stay with my pets as my babies. Also cheaper to maintain, even if the vet bills are higher than doctor bills.

I love and adore dogs passionately. I love all animals with a passion, but dogs are my favourite! However, I must say that treating dogs as human children is actually bad for them; according to someone who actually lived in the world of animal care and vets, babying dogs and treating them like human children is bad for them. They may be better than humans, but they are not humans and need to be respected and treated as such in order to be healthy and happy. Of course, love is also necessary for dogs and they can still be your best friend and your soulmate, but babying them like children is bad for them…

Just because something will forever stay small enough for you to pick up and cuddle doesn't make it your toy to dress up and treat like 'aw oh my poor little sweet baby' forever, that's just cruel. Now don't get me wrong, I have seen people calling their pets babies for whom it was just a cute name and they still made sure their pets got everything they needed as animals, but way, way more often have I seen people treating their 'furry babies' like dolls they can forever dress up, cuddle, feed fancy and expect they'll be jumping happy. And then ooo shocker your 'furry baby' bites someone, doesn't know how to behave in general and then dies young because of wrong diet and lack of exercise.
Just call things what they are. If you want a kid, get a kid. If you don't want a kid but want a dog, that's fine, just get a dog. If you want a toy for your own amusement, get a Barbie or a furby or whatever, don't torture another living being.

I'm not bashing your preference, I wanna know you guys opinion on this for better understanding : )
Having children simply so you're not lonely as a senior citizen is short sighted and selfish. There is NO guarantee that 8f you have children, they will support you, or even be in contact with you. Children grow up unto into autonomous adults: they live by their own choices, not yours.

I have 4 kids myself and I agree that it's like herding cats at times! However, my husband and I had serious discussions about how we wanted to parent and why we wanted to do things a certain way and what our goals were for our kids (basically become the best versions of themselves). So when we had 4 kids in 5 years we already had a game plan. We had our "kid training program" laid out, in broad strokes anyway. The biggest problem today is that parents don't take time to train, and I mean TRAIN, their kids how to behave. When they're 1-2 years old, they are the worst because they don't know any better. But they are still smarter than those adorable doggos and can be trained to behave. As they continue to grow, that training can be built upon. One of our guiding principles has been to treat our kids like the unique people they are and always try to bring out the best in them.
I don't think what you've said has been worded very well, but I can see how having poorly behaving children, because the parents haven't taken the time to teach them correct behaviours, puts others off the idea of kids. However you can't say that having well trained kids is better than having a pet(s) because that insinuates that a life without kids of your own is less fulfilling, Which simply isn't true.
