In a way, this post is basically the movie version of shower thoughts. Bear with me. After Twitter user @jazz_inmypants asked people to share bothering movie details that aren't common knowledge, his thread received quite a few interesting insights. For example, Grease (1978) might be described as a story that teaches you to change yourself until other people like you. And Belle's (Beuty and the Beast (1991)) neighbors are probably doing something shady if the village can support such an extensive bookstore when she's the only reader and doesn't even pay. The tweet by @jazz_inmypants has already received over 30K likes and 1K comments, many of which filmmaking students could definitely rework into term papers.

OMG This is so mine.... and the fact that Charlie PREFERRED to take Grandpa Joe rather than his Mum whose life was a depressing painful prison.... It just made me want to smack that kid.
Altogether, a film can seem incredibly complicated, but the reasoning behind every decision nearly always comes down to how it is working with the story and how it is affecting the viewer. With that in mind, the New York Film Academy has prepared some tips for reviewing a film and coming up with your own insights.
Watch it. "Once is necessary twice is preferable," the academy wrote. "Taking notes is also a good idea and will help the writing process by making it easy to refer to your in-the-moment thoughts and reactions."
Because he wanted to look deferent than his foster apes. He shave his beard with his deceased father's knife every day.
Express your initial thoughts and support your criticism. "Professional reviewers do not shy away from telling their readers whether they thought the movie was good bad or indifferent, and in fact readers come to rely on those reviewers whose tastes reflect their own when deciding whether or not to spend their time and money. Professional reviewers also have watched a lot of movies and can express why and how they came to their criticism. Be sure to back up your thoughts with specifics–a disappointing performance, a ridiculous plot, beautiful cinematography, difficult material that leaves you thinking, and so on."
Evaluate the acting. "Many casual filmgoers will be inspired to see a movie if a favorite actor is in it, so you should probably spend a little space talking about the performances: seasoned actor in a new kind of role, brilliant performance from a rising star, excellence despite a lackluster script, dynamics in an ensemble, and so much more can be said about the actors in any given film."
Directing, cinematography, special effects... This is where your inner film geek can really shine. Consider the highlights or missteps of directors, cinematographers, costume designers and CGI magicians. What worked, what surprised, what fell short of expectations, are all great questions to address.
Danny actually puts way more effort into changing himself- joining the track team and putting in a lot of work- and when he shows up in his Letter jacket he gets teased for it instead of praised. I don't know why people get so worked up because Sandy changed her outfit. They both proved they were willing to make sacrifices for one another.
no one said this was about sandy. both changed themselves to make others like them.
Load More Replies...That isn't entirely accurate; Danny tried to change for her as well. Remember his varsity sweater at the end? And the fact the entire movie he wrestled with his reputation vs. his affection for Sandy.
Where did it say he didn’t? The tweet doesn’t specify
Load More Replies...Also, keep pressuring a girl and don't take no for an answer! ("Did she put up a fight?")
Yes! I have always thought this! Why does everyone love this movie?
My pet peeve is the fact that they couldnt cast people who actually look like high school kids. These "kids" look more like 30+ years old...
That is a common problem with many teen movies - the cast is too old. The satire movie Not Another Teen Movie did that on purpose. :D
Load More Replies...Ah, but in those days, smoking WAS a passage to adulthood. Not so much now,
Load More Replies...I perceived it as, don't bother trying to change yourself for someone. Be who you are and if you like each other, don't worry what others will say
this lady gets it. Oh thank the Goddess someone has a brain. xo
Load More Replies...It was more like "Be a good, old fashioned, wholesome girl and get nowhere. Become the quintessential tart, and suddenly everyone wants you" - great message to send to our young people.
When did this idea of being "cool" become cool? That's the real problem.
When they started misunderstanding the concept of 'cool' Cool will always be cool, but not the way the sheep interpret it.
Load More Replies...Well, Danny did try to geek it up by becoming an athlete. It goes both ways.
And one of the songs contains the words 's**t, pussy and tits'.
Basically ,it tells girl that the way to "get the guy of your dreams" is to dress and act like a slapper ...Great message...Mind you ,why are little boys encouraged to perform "Greased Lightning" at school concerts ? Have you listened to the words? It's disgusting! lol
The message behind this movie is much worse than just changing yourself so others will like you...The entire way women are treated is disturbing. Including Rizzo's line, "What do you guys think this is...A g******g?" The reply is, "You'd like that, wouldn't you?" Don't blink...You might miss it, but it's there... :-/ Rizzo-Grea...ea5492.jpg
And? that's exactly what kiddos (and even adults) do in order to fit in and be accepted
it's not that I assure being old enough to have watched it the first time it came out. and a totally feminist even back then. in grade 3. in the 80's.lol
Load More Replies...It's actually about the journey of self discovery and defining yourself, shaped by the personalities you admire, rather than the role your parents put you into. Moral, it is better to live a life you choose for yourself, rather than the one you born into.
wow. young girlz do not get much these days. I loved that movie since it came out the first time around. I have re-watched it many times over the DECADES. and nope. it's about not being cool to find the one you love. but teens are mixed up and think they should. you totally missed the moral of the story kid.
It's also important to look at a film’s story from a structural viewpoint. Try to to keep in mind that the vast majority of films fall into the three-act structure: a beginning, middle, and end. It's not because the screenwriters are lazy, but because the formula simply works. In screenplays, the first thing you should look out for is the inciting incident. Generally, about 10 minutes into the film, there will be a moment that forces the protagonist to exit their comfort zone and start their journey towards a new goal. Around the thirty-minute mark, there is usually a major turning point. At this moment, the hero can't go back, that signals the beginning of the second act where the majority of the film will take place. Finally, around the ninety-minute mark, the second turning point will signal the film’s drive towards both its conclusion and resolution.
Of course, some films don’t fit perfectly into the three-act structure, but the vast majority of films do and you can start to get a sense of when important moments or changes will occur when you know the general format.
Did you know that this movie is based on the German book "Das doppelte Lottchen" from Erich Kästner? The girls are Luise and Lotte from Vienna and Munich respectively. The book was written around 1945 so the story makes much more sense regarding the timeframe. Today its stupid of course but back then it wasn't that easy to keep in contact when miles apart.
They also don't tell you that Hera drove Hercules insane so that he kills his wife Megara and his 5 children
Yeah, but he is supposed to be only 18 I think. Swayze is not 18, but neither is Jennifer Gray. 18 and 16 is not too bad.
And no one ever has a password on their phone. Anyone can just pick it up and see what they've been texting.
To be fair, the size of houses in most American movies and TV series' is ridiculous. A teacher and a nurse living in a massive house? No wonder immigrants think it's the place to be.
Well everyone knows men can't be raped... Yes, that is sarcasm...
It was to keep his mind relaxed and clear so he wouldn’t be in a panic when they arrived and instead could go full send on the booby traps
Jenny was broken from childhood. This may bother you but it happens a lot in real life so it's not unrealistic.
Disagree. The point of the whole movie was Bueller getting Frye to live beyond his fears.
I still can't handle how so many of the retired Bella's could afford to just jet off to Denmark
It bothers me that we don't have a grasp on the fact that flawed characters are what make good fiction......or that human beings ARE "problematic" sometimes.....or that we are now expecting fictional characters to only represent the best, most 100% socially acceptable versions of mankind to the point where it borders on limiting creative freedom because we have a meltdown when someone makes a deeply flawed character.....or that we are living in a society where we are no longer able to appreciate true depth of character because we have drawn such hard lines of social acceptability......
This is a good point. On the other hand, writers slot charts with hyper-annoying traits to satisfy formulae. Consider Matt Groenig whose formula requires a Bender. Outrageous and in your face, doing outrageous and implausible things just to satisfy plot points and comedy beats... and nobody would tolerate his presence if it were real. One could make the argument you just made about soap opera characters too. But I knew a couple of girls who were soap opera addicts, and they acted exactly like the characters on TV, neither better nor worse, and in real life no one could stand being around them.

Well, it was Grindelwald (pretending to be Percival Graves) who ordered them to be killed...
Load More Replies...How about 'Revenge of the nerds' where a guy pretends to be someone else to have sex with a girl (rape), or even 'Sixteen candles' where Jake "gives away" his almost-passed-out-drunk girlfriend to another guy, who then sleeps with her. Really. The 80's were awful.
What is wrong with sleeping with someone? It's the sexual intercourse that can be problematic.
Load More Replies...Any movie where the main character's family works too much and never has time for family annoy me because the family in question are always well-off and it never seems to occur to them that the REASON they are well-off is because the main character is always working. The White House was destroyed. Maybe they should have invited the president to live with them in their trailer😉

Ok, I've always taken a huge issue with how absurdly nonchalant EVERYONE in the weirdo pastel neighborhood in Edward Scissorhands was about inviting essentially a handsome mutant into their lives and homes. Seriously, it BARELY gets addressed, and then yeah sure, let's get him drunk, let him hang with our children and cut our hair... what the honest hell??
I believe it's a genre called "magical realisim". (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) A magical thing happens, but no one really takes it as being magical. Very popular in Spanish literature of some countries, to my limited knowledge.

In The School of rock when the kids didn't win and the crowd boo-ed the winners, when the winners song was a lot better.
You know what bothers me? That david yates directed the second four Harry Potter movies. I can only pray they will be remade within my lifetime.
They should remake them starting with movie 3, imo. The first two movies might not have been as flashy as the rest, but they were much closer to the spirit and atmosphere of the books. Also Ron wasn't a comic relief moron.

Just saw Uncharted. Fun movie. But the first time the cat's sex is referenced, it's called 'her' and then in the end credits scene, 'she' is called 'Mister Whiskers'. Did the writers just not give a damn about continuity? Also, any movie that refers to a calico cat as male (Big Hero Six, Home)
I don't like the responses of "That's what you found wrong with a movie with etc.?" It's the small things, guys.
In general any movie in a midieval/history/fantasy setting: there are often a lack of agricultural areas around towns, castles etcetera. Cause people in towns yesteryear got their food from trucks? And somehow, armour are absolutley useless against swords. Oh... and there are a lot of arrows that goes thru plate armour like it were paper. Etcetera etcetera.
As a little kid, I asked; "Why does there always have to be a witch?" (somebody to mess things up) I was told "If there wasn't a witch thee wouldn't be any story"
I am bothered by Disney's Little Mermaid. When she has to give up her voice and still get the Prince to love her-what is left? Just her looks and body? What?!
And we know Ariel can write because she signed a contract with Ursula. So, why didn't she just write Prince Eric a note to explain what happened?

What I don't understand is in Avenger's: End Game...Thor is a recluse whose fat and depressed from drinking beer all the time. But he's a god..so would he really look fat from drinking too much beer? And if he's fat because he wants to be because of his depression..then wouldn't he go back to being trim and fit when he gets his mojo back?
I just notice that people doesn't know how to use their imagination, its entertainment, relax and enjoy!
Little Women is supposed to be a feminist movie but its really about sisters who are not fulfilled until they meet or marry men. But the one who doesn't dies. What does this tell us?
...you do know that this was a book written during the American Civil War, right?
Load More Replies...Little Women - all the girls are unhappy until they get men and the one who doesn't dies. How is that feminist?
Any movie where the end titles credit somebody with Costume Design but the entire cast wore only jeans and Tshirts or other mass produced garments.
In Pixar's Inside Out - the little girl has blue eyes.....both her parents have brown eyes.....either she is super recessive, or adopted.
It also matters what color eyes the grandparents have. Both my parents are brown eyed, I have blue and my brother - green eyes. Nearly all our grandparents have light-colored eyes.

And not only that psycho husband got away with murder but he also practically enslaved his wife, trapped her in that horrible marriage with killer, and you can see at the end how miserable and horrified she is. And we are supposed to feel "good" because she is "punished"? On the other hand, maybe I missed the point, maybe the movie point is "don't marry a psycho, they can look normal and cute too". If this is not the message, movie is mysogynistic pease of c**p.
My main problems with Disney movies is the sexual assault that just casually happens. Believe it or not, but you are not supposed to break into a girl's house and kiss her while she's sleeping. If she has actually been sleeping for years, go in and shake her awake or carry her out to a doctor. You do not need to kiss her!
In the original story she literally gets raped and impregnated while sleeping. She wakes up in labour IIRC. Disney definitely toned it down.
Load More Replies...In Deep Throat, are we *really* to believe her clitoris is in her throat? She would have had to absorb her twin in the uterus, and even then the clit isn't what would likely get left over and it's even more doubtful it would be located in her throat. Also, she would have known about it being there simply by eating something and swallowing, as she would have had to her entire life.
Think vitamins -- it's an old story and people had different health kicks back then. Something like 'cod-liver oil' was loaded with healthy vitamins but tasted awful. So, a spoonful of sugar would have helped...
