Game of Thrones is nearing its conclusion, and for some, it can't come soon enough. What will the world be like without it? There has never been a TV show that has enraptured the entire planet in such a way; the cultural scientists of the future will have an absolute field day analyzing its impact.
It's fair to say that this season has divided opinion so far, and episode 5 was no exception. It was a brutal massacre of Game of Thrones characters that are guaranteed to have upset plenty of fans, who watched the whole thing from the view of a civilian on the sidelines. Bored Panda spoke to Christian, who runs the popular Game of Thrones fansite Game of Thrones Fans. He understands some of the criticism that this final season of the show has attracted, but it can't dampen his enthusiasm for each and every episode of the HBO series.
"Well first of all, as you probably saw, the Game of Thrones plot is just getting worse by the episode and its not because of the effects, its because writers have been writing poorly since 3rd episode," he told us.
"First, it started with killing Night King so easily and giving fans something they wanted for so long, but without any kind of satisfaction or twist in the episode."
I always wanted Arya to kill Jaime and wear his face and trick Cersei and stab her in the heart.
LOL, All I can see is Tormund running faster than Gendry down south to hit on Brenne.
"Just like in third episode, they did same with Dany in this one," Christian continued. "The story after they started the attack just went straight ahead to destruction, and if it wasn't for couple of small scenes to save the day, it would have been a total disaster."
"Thank God for some small scenes like the death of Varys Cleganebowl, and the fight between Jaime and Euron."
"Fair enough, they made Dany as the 'mad queen,' but why not show some emotion or reaction while she was on Drogon destroying the city? Or at least give some background story to it"
Looking ahead to the final ever episode, Christian admits he has no idea what to expect from this popular TV show. "This season is something that no one expected, so I guess more crazy and unexpected stuff is coming up! Maybe Arya will kill Dany since she saw first hand what she did in King's landing."
Christian went on to explain that a theory from the Facebook page A song of Ice and Fire has piqued his interest, and could hold some clues for the last episode. "All the green explosions you see while Daenerys flies above King's Landing setting the city on fire are the caches of Wildfire that Aerys II had his Pyromancers stockpile all around the city," he explained.
"Cercei and Tyrion didn't find them to use against Stannis' fleet back in the second season just before episode nine, Blackwater. As a friend pointed out, in a way it was Aery's wrath taking his revenge on the city through her daughter."
Interesting indeed! For more theories, GoT memes and general fan chat check out Christian's Facebook and Instagram fan pages, and we'll see you next week for the big finale!
During WW2, my hometown (Le Havre, France) has been bombed by the RAF. It's been destroyed at 82%, mostly downtown when the germans positions were... uptown. The man who decided this, was not mad, just wanted to end it quickly (he lost too many days in Caen). He even refused the evacuation of the civilians. This stage is sadly not so unrealisctic ;)
did anyone else started thinking: What color eyes does Daenerys have again??
But they had the Author to guide them!! Which is even worse that it's so rushed and f***ed up.
if you look at the bottom left pic. the green flames were planted all over the city. Cersis was going to burn the whole thing down anyways.
Kinda bummed how little airtime he's gotten this season. All of what, a minute and a half?
Pretty much, sad to see the writers butcher a show in the last couple of episodes
This misses th point of people’s objections. Nobody missed her ruthlessness and violence in previous episodes or her trajectory. However the instant flip from someone someone who would slaughter those she believed had wronged her, or willingness to accept “collateral damage” to deliberate slaughter of civilians was nonsense. The early seasons were so much better because they followed GRRMs timing and the way his characters drove the plot. Once the source material became an outline they rammed through illogical character trajectories and the plot drove the characters.
I was just hoping she WOULD break character and not destroy everything
Give Daenerys a break. Her mother and father were sister and brother. You had to know there was some crazy up in there.
Season 8 episode 2 was the best episode in the entire series to me. It has now gone downhill from there. Not even a nice slope of a hill more like a vertical drop of doom.
