All adorable cats are worth loving, but only the best and brightest will become memes. And one cat, in particular, named Zuu, is full of meme potential. He’s so round that he looks like a ball of fluff. He’s a lovably grumpy cat. He has markings on his fur that make it seem like his mouth is constantly open and that he’s eternally surprised. What’s not to love?
If you thought that one funny cat was enough for you to stay motivated, lift your spirits and keep you working hard until the weekend, well, have we got a surprise for you. It turns out that the adorable Zuu lives with another cat – Bocco. The two felines are sure to give you a laugh and make you want to cuddle them. They both look so chunky and disappointed with life that it’s nearly impossible not to smile.

Bocco and Zuu’s owner Chika, who goes by the handle pechanko_bocco, regularly uploads her cute cats’ photos on Instagram, with a huge archive of 1,720 posts and counting. Over 33,400 people follow the two felines’ antics. Bocco is an Exotic Shorthair cat born on June 26, 2016. While Zuu is an Exotic Longhair who’s a bit younger – he was born on August 21, 2017. Both of the exotic cats are male.
Zuu and Bocco’ss owner Chika told Bored Panda in an exclusive interview that the “two cats sleep all day long while I’m at work – I assume that they sleep around 20 hours a day.”
“Bocco is a shy boy and not used to strangers, but he loves getting a massage from me and stalks me around everywhere in the house. He also used to be good friends with the hedgehogs that I used to have. Zuu is more open to others and not afraid of dogs that he meets in the park.”
Chika also revealed to Bored Panda: “I used to upload pictures of my hedgehogs on Instagram, so it was kind of a natural thing to do for my cats as well. I’m really surprised that we are getting so many followers recently. I am very happy when I see positive comments that say the pictures made them smile, for that is also how I feel looking at them.”

“Since the famous cats have a flat face, I need to wipe their tear stains off every day. Their tears are brown, typical with their breed,” Chika explained about caring for Zuu and Bocco. “Also, they are super lazy and won’t eat by themselves. I need to bring the food pellet to their mouths. I do leave some food so that they can eat when I am late coming back home from work, but they just keep waiting for me to come back home and feed them with my own hands. They eat human-grade and grain-free cat food. They also take some supplements.”
“Zuu doesn’t have good athletic skills so he’s not good at heights nor jumping. He still hasn’t been able to reach the top of the cat tower,” joked Chika.

Some of you might have already fallen in love with the cat meme-worthy Bocco and Zuu (we know we have). But it might be the first you hear about Exotic Shorthair and Longhair breeds. Fear not! Here’s some basic information you need to know to get started.
Exotic Shorthairs first came into existence in 1967, after crossing Persians with British Shorthairs. The Trupanion cat guide writes that the new breed inherited traits from its forefathers, including the easy-going attitude of the Persian, and gained the easier coat maintenance and higher energy levels of their shorthaired cousins. Exotic Shorthairs are great pets for families with kids because they’re very playful, but also don’t demand constant attention.

Meanwhile, Exotic Longhairs are exactly what it says on the tin: they’re longhaired versions of the Exotic Shorthair breed. Quite unexpected, we know. Longhairs love playing with toys and having cuddle-time with their hoomans, but they require a bit more extra care. So you have to comb a longhair’s coat every single day. Otherwise, it’ll start looking like Boris Johnson’s hair. And then, inevitably, it’ll become Mayor of London or Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

A couple warnings to keep in mind, though. Exotic Shorthairs are prone to gaining a lot of weight, so it’s very important you don’t overfeed them, no matter how much they give you the Puss in Boots sad kitty look. Otherwise, your chonker will turn into a mega chonker. Furthermore, these cats are very attached to people, and they start getting anxious if they’re all alone for too long. But who in their right mind would leave them alone?

There’s also more and more evidence that Exotic Shorthairs and other similar breeds have some problems breathing, because they have a flat face. Claire Bessant of International Cat Care expressed her opinion: “It is very depressing to see the life which has been deliberately dealt to some breeds of cats because of a human desire to develop a certain look.” However, this doesn’t mean that all Exotic Shorthairs are constantly suffering or that they are all unhealthy: with proper care and lots of love, and attention, these cats can live long lives up to around 16 years. However, if you’re on the fence about getting an Exotic Shorthair, consider picking one up at an animal shelter and giving it a forever home, instead of buying one from a breeder.

We might all have our favorite cats and feline memes, but there’s always space in our hearts for someone new to make a purrfect first impression. So tell us — what did you think of Bocco and Zuu? Which one would you rather bring home with you? Have you ever kept Exotic Shorthair or Longhair cats? Let us know in the comments below!

Internet users had this to say about the incredibly adorable Zuu
Both may look cute & all....... but in my pov both breeding & buying of such an abnormal, cultivated animal, should fall under pure animal abuse. I can't understand people buying pets for their simply how they look & don't give a rats a*s if the animal got breathing- & all kinds of other health issues for their entire lives because complete idiots will buy..... :-(
Thank you for this comment. I 100% agree. I am a bit shocked by these "cute" pictures. This is clearly animal abuse.
Load More Replies...Poor thing that doesn't have a proper nose to breath... Shame to the breeders.
Also SHAME on the 1st buyers (excluding those who adopt a pet from the shelter off course) as the breeders only breed for those "special group of people".
Load More Replies...Neither of those cats look like they are healthy. It's sad that people want to see stuff like this which in turn fuels cruel breeding practices.
Both of these animals look ill. Their faces are deformed to the point where breathing is difficult and what kind of sadist deliberately breeds an animal that is so prone to obesity that they're guaranteed not to have a normal life span?
wow... this is awful! they will have heavy breathing problems. look at their non existent noses and nostrils. and the first cat barely opens its eyes. it looks like, they hurt, when they are open. it is a shame, that people breed such poor animals just because they look "so cute"... 😤😤😤
I don't even find these short nosed cats cute. "Normal" cats are some of the most beautiful animals in the world and they've turned them into these dreadful-looking, sickly creatures. The same with pugs and bulldogs and the rest of them. Humans are just despicable.
Load More Replies...I have an Exotic Shorthair rescue cat and he is extremely affectionate, follows me everywhere, and eats all he wants but has never become fat. On the downside, his eyes constantly run, his teeth are crooked, and he sheds constantly. Still and all, a wonderful cat full of love and personality.
"This animal has trouble breathing" "Proceeds to obstruct his miniature nose with the end of a pencil".. :/
Poor cats. Their quality of life is probably very poor due to all the deformities... I hope they were rescued and whoever bred them wasn't rewarded for this
Shame on all who continue to breed animals who have problems. No matter how cute. And I never thought I would say this but Bored Panda should take these pictures off. It makes others want cats that look like this and will promote breeding of abnormal kitties. I hope these loveable kitties have a wonderful life but are spayed or neutered and do not give birth to more kittens who have problems.
So if you want a guinea pig, why misbreed a cat to that shape? Why not simply get a guinea pig? I don't get it.
I really wish people would stop breeding animals with short noses like this!
I will never ever up vote abnormal breeding in animals, neither obesity or disability. It really sickens me.
I love pugs, but would never buy one due to well documented health issues. Does anyone know if there is any research on so called Teddy Bear dogs? I can't find anything credible
What do you mean by a Teddy bear dog? Like a clipped pomeranian? Any purebred dog has the risk of health issues. Mix breed dogs are on the whole much healthier
Load More Replies...In the second picture from the end, the one that shows one of the cats yawning...does this cat even have back teeth (other than canines)? Does somebody have an explanation?
A. is the cat (breed) healthy. No. Then B. is the cat happy. No. As soon as I read the part "won’t eat by themselves. I need to bring the food pellet to their mouths." I was done with them. Sad, sad, sad. Perpetuating a birth defect is not "cute". Breathing issues, cannot climb and jump as a normal cat, BROWN tear stains showing tear ducts are inadequate - what's to love?
I'm sure you love your kitties, but, like pugs and bulldogs and other similar brachycephalic breeds, these are not healthy animals. They didn't evolve to look like this, they were bred by humans without regard for health. I hope you will consider how many wonderful cats are killed every year because people want a "look ". You could have saved 2 lives...
And they probably have to be fed because they don't have a proper jaw to eat on their own.
Load More Replies...I used to love peke persians... then I bought one and realized how they suffer... Zuu can't open his eyes, pressure from the nose I think, or his nose stuff irritates his eyes which already run... his eyes look infected... Just sayin... Bocco doesn't have teeth. And Zuu can't jump?!! Cats are agile hunters ... Why not get a bengal or savannah if you want something exotic... A real cat... These poor things.... and Zuu may be a mongoloid (Breeders indbreed to a ridiculous point to get a 'look')
Why not get a cat from the SHELTER and save a life?
Load More Replies...the little cat doesn't seem to have a catnose or a properly functioning one. Humans see this cat face as cute, but it looks difficult and painful for him. I'd like to see how breeders would feel if they live for a day as the cats/dogs they bred. Sure plenty of love and care is great to make a pet happy, but you aren't the one living in animal's skin or when you choose to open your eyes, sleep, run or play. Only the animal make decision, but it's crippled bc of breeders like these !! >_<
He is so cute almost looks a little special. I had a 15 year old chihuahua the sweetest baby. He would stick out his tongue but it was from losing teeth. Never thought i could or would do it but july 16 i had to put him down and it wasn't peaceful. My life revolved around him. 24 hours a day. I don't have much of a life but i had him.
I hate breeders who think a design cat is "it". Don't think of the abnormal people who want them but of the health of the cat.
Is there something wrong with the white cat's eyes. They never open. It makes him look sick.
It would fit perfectly with the new character of my "undiscovered tribe" artworks. :) He even has that name already - Zuu! I like it! :D "Undiscovered tribe" info: https://riqu-art.wixsite.com/riquart/galery
I scrolled all these comments to see if anyone else thought of Jabba. Thank you for not disappointing me.
Load More Replies...Would both of them give a forever home with special places on the couch and of course they would be allowed in my bed. They are so cute❤
This cat looks like it should be training me in the ways of kung fu.
Sir, you appear to be the proud owner of a furry beach ball with legs.
You mean that not all the individuals are really sick and with lot of care they can have a 16y long life? Yes, probably there are lot of "happy" pugs around the world. Some lucky ones are able to breath without constant snoring and don't pass away because of a warm, sunny day. And? Breeding - especially based on stupid trends - is just abuse. Nothing more. These breeders don't think about the animals. Only the profit. And humanity - as stupid as it is - will jump on the new creatures, basically because of Insta fame. So...Yes, maybe some of these animals are fine, the concept and the risk is way too inhuman.
