Some people get upset to see their efforts of creating a delicious homecooked meal go up in flames. Others already have a habit of laughing at their misfortunes and quickly reach for their phones to share pictures with everyone online. There are times, however, when these blunders quickly shift from funny to downright scary and grow into major accidents that might have alarming consequences.
You see, cooking is such a regular activity, we tend to forget that high temperatures can easily cause a fire. A report by The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that from 2014 to 2018, cooking was the leading cause of reported home fires and fire injuries.

"Cooking caused an average of 172,900 reported home structure fires per year (49 percent of all reported home fires in the US)," NFPA wrote. These fires had dire outcomes that resulted in 4,820 civilian injuries — that's 44 percent of all reported home fire injuries. The good news is that the vast majority of the reported fires were relatively small.
The most common cause of all of these incidents was unattended cooking. Moreover, clothing was the item first ignited in some of these fires, and cooking oil and grease fires are a substantial part of this whole problem.
The report also showed that an average of 470 cooking-related fires were reported per day in 2018, and the peak days were Thanksgiving and Christmas.

According to the Beaumont Emergency Hospital, two-thirds of all domestic fires start in the kitchen, and 350K people are injured by kitchen knives every year, with the most common accidents being burns and lacerations.
They shared that if you want to prevent such massive disasters from happening, always stay in the kitchen while cooking. Other safety advice would be to keep a fire extinguisher close by and make sure your smoke alarm is properly working. Since clothing or paper towels can quickly catch fire, you should keep any potential fire hazards away from stovetops.

It turns out that people can avoid most cooking accidents by keeping everything clean and organized. Beaumont Emergency Hospital stated that simply decluttering and preventing distractions can go a long way. "Keep the dog (or cat) out of the kitchen, remove pesky throw rugs, don’t use the telephone while cooking, and keep your children away," they wrote. "Clean up kitchen spills as they happen. You don’t want to slip on it later."
Friend's Dad Made Some Cayenne Rolls From Scratch Tonight. He Thought He Was Using Cinnamon. The Rolls Had No Cinnamon
And this is why you keep a pair of reading glasses in the kitchen. I learned this lesson after trying to make cinnamon toast and making clove toast instead.
"Mexican chocolate cayenne buns" is served for you sir
Load More Replies...This one puzzles me. Cinnamon is a very strong scent and the amount needed to make cinnamon rolls is definitely going to make the kitchen smell before they are cooked. Can the man not smell? Should have been noticeable. I don't use cayenne but I'm guessing that smells too. And NOT like cinnamon.
Bet you would not want to have these spicy buns in your tummy, especially if you medically not allowed to eat spicy food
Load More Replies...I mean.......I would eat these. I have family in New Mexico and i love adding chile to sweet things so I bet these are actually pretty awesome!
Not sure, but I think I'd prefer them this way. I know this is sacrilege, but I'm not fond of cinnamon rolls.
I've done that with deviled eggs. Accidentally used cinnamon instead of paprika 🤣
And here's what i saw: "Cayenne buns"! As the result... Instead of an american classic, you got a bizzare buns instead
Well that is more common than you think. One of my ex made that for breakfast too. I vomited right away...
My mom did that with pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. She thought the cayenne was nutmeg. They were okay as long as you had a big glass of milk.

Cinnamon rolls generally contain more sugar than cinnamon. These might not be too bad, really. Sweet & spicy go well together.
Either can't spell, can't read & doesn't know his colors either?
Sprinkle the cinnamon on the frosting... The spicy mixed with sweet may not be all that bad
Did this with cornbread when I was out of chili powder. My kids never ate my cornbread again
Does he also have no sense of smell? Surely you would have smelled that baking.
i once baked a cake with salt instead of sugar... oops

Always keep an eye on your oil and use a thermometer.
"Even the very best chefs make sure everything is prepared in advance, and they know how much time they need to execute certain dishes," Ellen added. "If you're less confident, it's even more important to do this and to build in a bit of extra time so you're not rushing and getting stressed. I've ruined many a meal because I tried to rush, didn't read the recipe in advance and get everything ready, then ended up trying to do too much in too little time, which inevitably causes mistakes," the blogger revealed.

Luckily, there are plenty of easy-to-follow cooking tips that can up your culinary game right away. "Take time to read the recipe, to check you've got the right ingredients, and to plan what you need and what you'll need to do," Ellen suggested.
"This is even more important if you're cooking several dishes at the same time. There's many an adage that says 'perfect planning prevents poor performance' — or words to that effect — and it's no different in the kitchen."

"Also, try to clear up as you go along (or get someone else to do it). Tidy workspace, tidy mind, and all that. It will keep you organized and calm if you're not working in chaos."

To 90% of these people: Yes, I know, timers aren't "hip" or "sexy." None of the "cool kids" are using timers, and you're "embarrassed" to be seen with one. But, when you ruin your mac and cheese, or, heaven forbid, your house burns down with all of your precious groceries trapped helplessly inside, will it seem "lame" then? Use a timer, kids. And a condom.
I don't use regular kitchen timers but I set timers on my phone because I have it on me all the time

Load More Replies...My grandma found out she had brain cancer thanks to one of these types of accidents. She collected pine cones to make a crafty thing and put them in the oven on a low temp to dry out and forgot about them and then increased the heat to preheat the oven for dinner. The pinecones started to smoke. She called 911 thinking the oven was on fire because there was a bunch of smoke coming from it and when they came the paramedics decided to bring her in to get a full check up because she was complaining she was dizzy and had a headache. When she was at the hospital they found the tumor. Her horrible kitchen mistake actually gave her 3 more years with us. Every time I see things like this I half laugh and am half like aww Graaaan.
Years ago I tried making grilled tomato soup from scratch. You cut the tomato’s in half and put them in the oven for a bit and then carry on from there. Well, I tried using a hand mixer to puree the tomato’s but I got too close to the surface of the soup and it kicked and sent soup all over the walls and ceiling. My wife was not pleased and banned me from cooking.
I have a lot of questions, like why are you using a blender to make mashed potatoes?
SO many people melting plastic in their ovens!!! That s**t doesn't come off! You have to get a new oven!!
I feel better. I once tried to make a fruit cake. It said to add a whisked egg while the mixture was still warm...Well, it was too warm, it scrambled the egg and then turned to toffee. I didn't bake again for a few decades after that.
Ooh that’s happened to me while making choux pastry (for profiteroles). It really sucks, and there’s nothing you can do but start over. Hope you enjoy baking now though!

For the wealth of cooking information, including real time video, it's amazing these people are so bad at cooking. Most of the world is starving -- we are wasting food. EVERYTHING comes with some kind of instructions . . . preheat oven, unwrap, place on rack. And the internet can save you anytime. Food isn't so expensive, waste is the real cost.
Anyone who thinks food isn't expensive is a) at least moderately wealthy, and b) does not do their own grocery shopping.
