I am Nathan Olsen, a 44-year-old cartoonist from Long Beach, California.
I started Sundae Comics in 2019 as a tribute to my childhood heroes, the newspaper cartoonists I grew up reading in the 1980s. I wanted to create a series to explore all of the different genres and storytelling techniques that I enjoyed in those old comic strips and mash them together in weird and (hopefully) interesting ways.
Presented here are the comics I've created over the past two years. Follow me on Instagram or visit my website to keep updated and check out my other works!

The hairdo and clothes in the 2nd frame are _extremely_ like Princess Leia's look at the award ceremony at Yavin 4 in A New Hope
Are you saying that I was too lazy to look up what the actual Nobel Prize ceremony looks like and just swiped the ending from my favorite childhood movie?! ...Because that’s exactly what I did.
Load More Replies...Nathan, I really like your art, and I know you mention that they are somewhat based on old comics from when you were a kid, but quite a few are either full-on Mad comics redrawn or are very derivative. They are still really funny, but you should give credit to Mort Drucker, D**k De Bartlo, and Dave Berg to name a few.
Don Martin! Thank you! I couldn't recall his name, but yes, he was one of the guys with lots of one panels about super heroes as well. As a matter of fact, I'm looking through my archives now for the "Flash" one he did with all the bugs in flash's teeth and face. It's the one that sparked my comments and led me to to see how more than a few were similar to the ones here. Don't get me wrong, you are a great artist. Ideas need to come from somewhere I suppose but it's just better if we mention those artists who give us inspiration, especially when it's so similar. However, I consider you mentioning Don Martin as a great first step in that direction!
