WikiHow is an online database of how-to instructions that aims to empower everyone in the world to learn anything they desire. However, it’s not only a useful resource for learning but also for funny content. With over 249K articles uploaded so far, there are some pretty niche instructables available, such as: “How to Make People Think You’re Immortal” or “How to Apologize to a Cat.” It’s no wonder that wikiHow memes emerge from such peculiar content.
As well as the in-depth, step-by-step instructions on how to carry out your desired task, the site also provides some seriously funny pictures with captions to accompany them. The illustrations have picked up somewhat of a cult following for the expressive and often ridiculous portrayals. So much so that there is a subreddit devoted to these weird images: r/disneyvacation. Essentially, it’s a database for funny wikiHow memes.
Don’t ask us how the name came about, but what they promise is “weird, terrible, terrifying illustrations from wikiHow - captioned for your amusement,” and boy, do they deliver! A random, out-of-context illustration is uploaded alongside often darkly funny captions that set the scene.
The result can be anything from political satire to sexual innuendo, torture, racial tropes, and just absurdity of the highest order... the kind of thing that you’ll feel a little guilty for chuckling at. Maybe it's a Maltese horse. When I vacationed on Gozo (the northern island of the Maltese Republic), every day I'd see people leading horses down to the harbour to stand them in cool salt water up to their bellies. Apparently the harness racing horses are mostly run on pavement because there aren't many dirt roads, so this is how they cool their legs to prevent inflammation and injuries.
