This Black Cat Is So Adorable And Quirky He’s Taking Over Instagram (40 Pics)
Interview With OwnerAlmost everybody loves cats—they are cute, fluffy and most of them definitely have a personality of their own. Some are calm, some are affectionate and some are just quirky in their own ways. Today we’d like to introduce you to MeonJi, a black Scottish fold cat that is literally blacker than black. Yes, you heard that right, the adorable kitty has a special talent for disguise, or should we say he’s just good at blending into his surroundings? Nevertheless, MeonJi is the type of cat to gaze long into an abyss, and before you know it, the abyss also gazes into you.

Apart from the name MeonJi meaning "dust," little is known about this charming 4-year-old Korean cat from Daejeon. MeonJi’s owner Kim Aerin told Bored Panda: "I really didn't like black cats very much. But ever since meeting my cat, I've completely fallen in love with black cats, even despite the fact that I did buy Meon Ji.
So far I am so happy with the attention we are receiving, but I want people around the world to know that all cats are cute, regardless of color!"
As we mentioned earlier, Bored Panda reached out to MeonJi’s owner Aerin with some questions. First, we asked the owner to tell us about how the cat’s Instagram account came to be.
“To be honest with you, I made it to somewhat show off my cat (and how quirky he is) and also to record my growth follower wise!”
When it comes to black cats, the fur color of a cat plays a significant role in its fate. Statistics indicate that unfortunately, black cats take longer to be adopted than cats of other colors. For example, in a recent study of shelters in Colorado, it was found that solid black cats took an average of 26 days to be adopted, compared to 20 days for their non-black counterparts.
Unfortunately, as far as the stigma goes, a lot of people also consider black cats to be unlucky as well. One might ask: what is the unlucky stigma that surrounds black cats? Well, even in 2021, as silly as it sounds, black cats are still associated with very old superstitions, black magic, and even things such as pagan holidays by a lot of people.
We noticed that the black Scottish fold wasn't the only cat that was lucky enough to end up in Aerin’s house, so we wanted to find out a little bit more about MeonJi’s other friends as well.
“Originally, I had only MeonJi, he was the only cat in the house. However, as of recently I got married, and my husband happened to have... two more cats! So now we have three cats in total. The other two cats are named Mong and Ddan!”
Sadly, the obvious truth isn’t always the most favored belief. Despite their beautiful coats and intelligent, loving, and quirky personalities (just like MeonJi's), black cats are still often given a bad rap. So Pandas, if you’re looking to add a new kitty to the family, black cats are easy to find. In fact, black cats take up to one-third of the shelter and rescue space in the US as per recent data. As such, there’s a chance you’ve got a furry companion just waiting to meet you right now!
MeonJi is a pretty viral cat, his pictures have been posted all over the internet, and even the official Instagram page has shared photos of the adorable black cat on their feed. Taking all of that into consideration, we were quite curious to know what Aerin thought about it as well.
“I'm already very honored that MeonJi’s account is very popular in Korea. In fact, I feel like the account is getting more and more popular around the world as well these days! Thank you all so much for your support! As the Korean saying goes, please take good care of my cat!”
"Look into my eyes.. You're getting very sleepy.. You will give me the catnip"
Wow I’m surprised m. My cats are afraid of the washer and dryer.
Black cats are little black voids full of murder teeth, purrs, and meows for treats. <3
