There are plenty of posts about confectionery on Bored Panda, as there's a massive demand for sweet news. Some use cakes as a part of some imagined situation, some are in it for the unique art itself or creative choices, and some create cool desserts that are just plain creepy. No matter the preference, in baking, like in real cake, there are layers of hierarchy: only a select few become the creme de la creme, cream of the crop, top of the food chain, the icing on the cake. Ben Cullen, 28, is one of them. His cake designs have a stunning range—from something that looks like it came from a fast-food diner to edible clothes, to stylized-yet-lifelike busts, to stabs at horror movies, to vegetables and optical illusions—he can do it all, it seems. His edible art messes with your brain, too! Some of his eye tricks look better on the outside than on the inside, and some the other way around. Some things seem so delicious that you don't care what they'd actually taste like, and some you wouldn't approach from miles away (they're still probably delicious, though.) In any case, check his food art out and see for yourself. If you felt a sugar rush and you're hooked, check out his Instagram and Facebook to see even more. Who knew that the term "eye candy" could be so figuratively literal? Have a nice one.

I know the phrase is over-used but my mind is blown!! Are you kidding me???
I hate to be that person, but these are real potatoes mixed in with a cake potato (which is unbelievably amazing- I won't take that away!) You can tell by the shine on the skin and different color. The top R is the cake potato in the top pic.
I see what you mean - the real potatoes lend authenticity to the cake, making it seem more realistic than if it were on its own. Clever :) It's nonetheless brilliantly executed!
Load More Replies...As someone who works in the produce department of a grocery store and handles yellow potatoes everyday: These are freaking amazing. Wow. The detail is INSANE.
You wouldn't believe how hard I strained myself trying to find a single flaw in the top picture.
These cakes are absolutely AMAZEBALLS!!!! The BEST I've ever seen! I wish I could order one!
Okay, now I'm starting to get suspicious. Does this man sell these/other cakes to people? What happens with the ones he takes a slice out of for the picture? How do we know how much of these are real cake ingredients? I have questions 🤨
OMG IT SPYRO THE DRAGON! IM FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW!!! ⁽ʷʰʸ ᵃᵐ ᴵ ˢᵒ ᵉˣᶜᶦᵗᵉᵈ ᵃᵇᵒᵘᵗ ᵗʰᶦˢ ᵈʳᵃᵍᵒⁿ ᴵ ʷᵃˢ ᵇᵒʳⁿ ᶦⁿ ²⁰⁰⁷ ᵇʳᵒ ⁻~⁻⁾
Adorable... I’m so Happy you didn't show the picture of it cut or i would of cried
These are incredible. I wouldn't be able to eat many of these, though, when I eat a dessert I want it to look like a dessert
For me none of those, cos I don't like fondant nor icing; some of the chocolate around seems too massive, while others I don't see a good balance between cake and filling. The point of those is the looks (which he nails) and it probably tastes good (for those that don't hate fondant)
Load More Replies...While I am amazed at the skill involved in making these cakes it seems like a lot of work just to create something people are going to eat. One hour after showing off your masterpieces all that's left is crumbs.
These are more cake sculptures than edible, although kids probably would like the amount of sweetness. For this type of cakes, the cake itself needs to be denser than you would want in a cake and the frosting and fondant are used as clay, not as flavor. (It was mentioned already, but usually, this is a show piece and there is a separate flat cake that's very yum on the side to actually eat)
You are so talented. Happy to see you are using your skills to create such beautiful works of art. It's almost a crime they are edible!
Imagine inviting friends over for a “dessert buffet.” You see their disappointed faces when they realize the “desserts” consist only of fruit – then watch their amazement when you cut into the “fruit,” revealing cakes!
Why do they keep cutting the pieces near the eyes??? Kinda unsettling
Oh, I know who this guy is! He's on a UK baking show; I can't remember the name of the show though, it's quite recent. Bakers make photo realistic cakes for parties and things. There's even a woman on it that hand paints canvas cakes.
So much fun to see, but unless he uses marzipan instead of fondant on the outside, I'd have to peel before eating.
These are so incredible, some of the best looking cakes I have seen and so life like.
I need a cook like you in our school Principal: look at our students eating so healthy Student: he he heh heh
