As a disabled person, thank you for this. It's great to admire that cat! That admiration or kind word, even saying "I don't know how you do it everyday" , on one of my really bad days can help change my mindset. There's a lot I can't do, but as for fighting everyday and trying to struggle through what are easy tasks for the abled, that I excel in 😁, someone acknowledging my struggle and seeing how I persevere helps. Not pity but a genuine remark from someone is totally acceptable. There is inspo-porn, but not everything is that. And I find that more able bodied people gripe about it than those of us who are dealing with a disability. I've even had someone tell me not to call myself disabled, say differently able, piss off with that, I am most definitely disabled! K, rant over, but again, thank you 🙂

I just want to quote Stephen Fry who was sick of people like that on Twitter - ""The sanctimoniously self-righteous who love to second-guess, to leap to conclusions and be offended – worse, to be offended on behalf of others they do not even know. It’s as nasty and unwholesome a characteristic as can be imagined. It doesn’t matter whether they think they’re defending women, men, transgender people, Muslims, humanists … the ghastliness is absolutely the same. It makes sensible people want to take an absolutely opposite point of view. I’ve heard people shriek their secularism in such a way as to make me want instantly to become an evangelical Christian." - yeah, that is a bitter existence for some.

I know I said it above but I am not offended for other people. I am simply pointing out that in a lot of scenarios it can hurt a lot of people including myself. I've seen a lot of inspo-porn on TV that has left me crying because of the portrayal. It just seems to insinuate that it's amazing to do everyday tasks and it's bad not to be able to do them. That makes me uncomfortable with tasks I can accomplish and feel insulted when I can't accomplish things.

This reply has been rattling around in my brain for the last week and I think I finally realized something that probably should have been really obvious. We are coming from different points of view regarding disability. Based on your comment, I would assume you are a physically disabled individual, I am disabled due to being neurodivergent. You're able to get over a limitation and you deserve respect for that if that's what you'd like. I was kind of thinking about it as a general thing, and there's a neurodivergent person. My disability is not just part of me. It defines who I am and how I function. For me if somebody were to call me inspirational it will be treating me like being myself is some sort of illness I need to get past or 'cure' or erase. For many neurodivergent people this sort of stuff regarding us comes across as there is something wrong with us and that is a bad thing. Not that we are a minority but it's not like there's something inherently wrong (eugenics vibes).

It also comes across a little like someone talking to a child rather than an equal. It also makes me pretty uncomfortable for people who can't do the tasks that some consider inspirational, as if people who can't do something are somehow less or uninspiring? That's when we get into neurodivergent functioning labels and a ton of other crap (that, fun fact, came out of Nazi, Germany). Anyways, my point is you are totally right in feeling how you do. I feel like maybe based on what you've said inspo-porn isn't as predominant in the physically disabled communities? I know for a lot of the neurodivergent communities we deal with it all the time. Every time we get 'representation' in a new show it's either blatantly ableist or inspo-porn. I can't turn on certain channels without the risk of being slapped in the face with a pile of microaggressions. Again, I myself am not a physically disabled individual. So please feel free to share any of your experiences. I'm always open to learning.

I looked to see if I could contact you privately as I felt we might be misunderstanding each other but there was no way for me to do that that I could see. I didn't reply to your comments before because I didn't want to upset you more or argue. I deal with both kinds of disability and would be happy to talk to you about my point of view if we could email instead of this comments section, stop any judgment of our correspondence. If not, we can just move on, that's fine too, no bad vibes directed at you from me and I hope you're good today😁

I don't know what I'm talking about? I'm sorry if this wasn't clear but I am disabled myself... This isn't me taking an opinion off the internet, this is me talking from my own experience and things that have hurt me personally. I've been hurt and I've seen so many people be hurt by certain things. This is a cat so I honestly don't care much what people say about the cat, but I feel extremely uncomfortable when this sort of thing is directed at people just trying to live their life.
