Someone Asked, “What Feels Like A Sin, But Isn’t?” And People Delivered, Here Are 53 Of Their Best Responses
How often have you felt you’ve been observed by security when you left a store without buying anything? Let’s not even talk about the experience of purchasing a pregnancy test while NOT trying to conceive. These are just some of the awkward situations and things that feel illegal but aren’t that people face daily. And frankly, we’ve all been in weird situations where we felt like we shouldn’t be doing something, although there was, in fact, nothing wrong with it!
Hence, when someone on AskReddit asked, "What feels like a sin, but isn't?" thousands of people jumped on the thread to reveal the many odd and funny situations in which they felt they’d committed a vice, which, clearly, wasn't the case at all, ranging from things such as taking time off work, skipping a workout, and not leaving a tip to wearing Crocs in public. (Truthfully, the latter might be the 11th unwritten Commandment.)
Below, we've compiled some of the best answers from the thread, sharing things that feel illegal but aren't. Do you also feel the same about the examples left by the people? Let us know by giving them an upvote! Also, anything else you would like to add to the list featuring what feels illegal but isn't? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Getting A Food Sample And Listening To The Person Talk About What’s In That Food And How They Made It And Then Not Buying The Product
Just be nice. I always listen and make sure they know they're doing well. It's a sample, you don't have to buy the product. Just don't be rude or take more than allotted.
You Feel Like You Are Comitting A Sin When You Are Casually Walking And There Is Police Somewhere. Or Is That Just Me?
I get nervous whenever I see police and I never have any reason to be. I guess it could be the lack of trust we have where I live.

That's why you do the weird tip-toe, half hop/half trot dancing walk over it.

Saying 'No' To People
Taking Time Off Of Work, Doesn't Matter If It's A Medical Emergency Or For Vacation, I Always End Up Feeling Some Guilt Over It
"Unless it's an assigned day off, seems to be the only exception. Even then, I'd I get called in I'll feel guilty if I reject the call in (sometimes I have to just that for my sanity)."
I think a lot of responsible people need to nope out of work if their body or mind tells them to (provided they can)

Not Putting The Trolley Back At The Supermarket
You're a lazy dīck if you don't. A lazy flaccid useless dīck. Sorry unless you have a serious medical issue, it takes what, 30-60 seconds to return it. And you're a real scumbag if you leave carts in handicap spaces; people who need those spots already deal with enough c**p and don't need more.
Reaping The Rewards Of Your Hard Work While Your Relatives Are Still Struggling Because Of Their Bad Decisions
"One of my cousins recently mocked us for having a 'lavish lifestyle' because we finally bought a modest home. Like he never knew all the hard work that my mom, my brothers, and I went through just to be where we are right now."
Dunno why would this be a sin, both my siblings are much better off than me, they work for it, i have 0 envy of them, by the contrary, Im actually proud of them.

Color theory class in college, my professor Mr Stevens asks a question and I have a different answer than the rest of the class. He says let's discuss it and that was basically 40 people telling me I was wrong and why I was wrong. I refused to change my answer and it turns out I was correct. He complimented me on holding out under such heavy criticism.

After I was laid off a few years ago I was home for two years. Felt like absolute s****. I was 28 and home, had to sell my car, drop out of my grad program, everything. You'd think, hey you have the time to do everything...nope...you'd be depressed and lost and wondering what is happening. It's only "fun" when you have financial security and don't have to worry about bills etc.

Eating Fast Food
Not related to the post: We don't have them in the UK, but I've seen them on a few posts now, so I'm assuming they are a fairly big chain, but... Does anyone else think that 'In-n-out burger' is a REALLY bad name? For me it just conjures images of food poisoning.

Sleeping In. Especially When You Have Kids
Bobusbroughtmehere wrote: "I feel this, and I don't even have kids. The day just feels wasted."
On my day off I almost always sleep in until lunchtime. I feel vaguely guilty about it but also like who cares I can do that if I want. At least I'm not out wasting money if I'm asleep, plus I have interesting dreams.
Using A Credit Card For A Very Small Purchase
I get that. Depending on the store. Credit companies charge the retailer for every credit card transaction. It’s a tiny fee but it adds up. That’s why a lot of gas stations and privately owned business don’t take credit cards under a certain dollar amount

Not Dancing On A Wedding
Drinking After You Are Finally Legally Allowed To
I was raised Southern Baptist in the south (Alabama, USA). It was considered a sin to drink - and dance and smoke - and to fish on Sundays. No kidding. I don't drink or smoke, but I moved to Washington D.C. in 10th grade, so I learned to dance. I never took up fishing, tho. 😂
Copying Old Code For A Computing Science Assignment
Isn't that what most coding is tho? Finding old code that works and patching it together to make something else work?
For me it is not wanting to give someone my phone number. Some people react weirdly when you tell them NO
Not letting a family member move in just because you have an extra room. You know they're a leech and will make your life hell. Yes, I have an extra room, in fact two. One is office/workout space. The other is guest space. You're not interested in being a guest, you want to free-load. No.
It's okay to say no, especially if you know they are bums.
Load More Replies...Only doing one errand when I take the car out. If I am using the gas to go around town, I want to get 3 or 4 things done instead of having to take all those separate trips.
I'm the same way. When I am out driving around, I feel like I should get as much done as I can. Maybe because it seems better for the environment. We are constantly told that we need to take better care of our planet.
Load More Replies...@DennyS ( denzoren) . I'm just done with being used, by ungrateful asshats, doesn't matter who they are.
