A mystical Fauvist artist capture attention from fashion giant Chanel & Gucci, came John Paul Fauves first solo exhibition in Taipei.
John Paul Fauves, the new emerging and sought after artist of the art world, who created a reflection of this current period through bold experimental paintings, will host the first solo exhibition at DOPENESS ART LAB in Taipei, Taiwan. From Costa Rica, he is highly regarded as a new generation of elites. Since the international tour in 2016, he has immediately set off a high reputation in the contemporary art world and exploding through European and American fashion circles. His works are also praised by a famous American contemporary artist, Ashley Longshore.
John Paul Fauves inherits the freedom of the “Fauvism” and creates a “New Pop Expressionism” style. The work incorporates the critical spirit of Pop Art and the vocabulary of expressionism, and strongly presents the question of self-identity issue. Fauves relates themes that interact with cultural and social media chaos on a daily basis. In 2017, the solo exhibition “A Loss of Innocence” series has attracted a lot of attention. Recently, Fauves has been invited to exhibit in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, London, Paris, Belgium, etc., and has gain international popularity. He returned to an intuitive way of creating from tearing and destroying the classic images in contemporary pop culture, deconstructing the symbolic elements, and re-creating into an unique vision through the colorful and raw painting strokes. His artworks filled with wild poetic flow integrated Fauves’ criticism and reflection on the capitalist distortion of modern identity issue.
This time, Fauves was invited to hold a solo exhibition at DOPENESS ART LAB, founded in 2018 by Taiwanese contemporary artist KEA TSAI. “DOPENESS ART LAB” is an atypical art experiment space with potential for the development of street and urban art in Taiwan, which has an in-depth understanding of street history and contemporary art, and also promotes the world’s newly emerging artists, focusing on the field of street art, urban art, and pop art, evaluate all with visual innovation and critical thinking.
In this solo, Fauves transformed the symbol of childhood purity – Mickey Mouse and other classic cartoon characters into the image of the beast in a reflection of capitalist society. The first solo exhibition in Taiwan not only brought his bold style and new artworks, but mysterious Fauves can be found in the opening. In this experimental art space, Fauves is raw, colorful and wild, much like his wild artworks that are hard to pass by.
