The Same Artist Who Made People Cry With Her ‘Good Boy’ And ‘Black Cat’ Comics Just Released A New One With A Duck
German artist Jenny Hefczyc, aka Jenny-Jinya, is bringing her fans to tears again with a new bittersweet comic. This time, her newest cartoon strip is about a baby duck who gets separated from his mother and siblings.
Bored Panda wanted to know how Jenny came up with the idea for her newest comic. “The idea was always there. Ever since a family of ducks was run over in front of my eyes, even though it was a very slow country road. That was cruelty that could so easily have been avoided,” she told us. Scroll down for the rest of Bored Panda’s interview with the artist!
But be warned—you might have to hold back some tears and pretend to have something in your eyes. We may have already made plans to go feed the ducks at the local park after reading Jenny’s comic. When you’re done with this post, check out the illustrator’s other powerful comics right here, here, and here.

German artist Jenny-Jinya drew a new bittersweet comic about a family of ducks that might bring you to tears
According to the illustrator, the time it takes to draw a single comic “varies greatly” from case to case. “It depends on how long and intensive I have to research for some topics. I need about a week for the drawing itself though.”
Jenny revealed to Bored Panda that drawing has been her obsession for as long as she can remember. “My mother always said I drew before I could walk. I picked up a pencil when I was a kid and I never stopped scribbling. Yeah, I always wanted to be an artist. I wanted to tell stories and create worlds.”
“But sometimes I have to take breaks, days when I withdraw from art completely,” she added that every artist has limits and needs to recharge. “Otherwise I really get a burnout.”
“Many small artists are frustrated that they have not yet developed their own style or have not yet found their niche. But that’s okay. That’s something that cannot be rushed,” Jenny said. “It sounds weird, but let your artistry speak out. Finding your own style and niche is something that takes time to develop. There’s simply no shortcut.”
Jenny explained what inspired her to draw the comic
Jenny’s bittersweet comics have amassed her a large following: over 174k fans on Instagram, 140k on Facebook, and 25k on Twitter. In her comics, the German artist tackles various social issues related to animals.
In a previous interview with Bored Panda about her black cat comic, the artist talked to us about abandoned animals and how this is a big problem that needs to be addressed.
“There are dozens of posters and infographics with various statistics about abandoned or abused animals. Many know the problems, but such information is quickly forgotten,” Jenny explained to Bored Panda. “I try to give a voice to the victims with my comics. I want the affected pets to be able to tell their own stories. I hope I can raise awareness this way.”
According to Jenny, she likes to imagine Death as a character who “is just doing their job.”
“People hate them for what they’re doing, but in the end, someone has to do it. I like to imagine Death to be a gentle and insightful being,” she said. “For all I know, we could be part of the biggest MMORPG in the whole universe, but there’s no way of knowing it.”
“Now go and hug your pet!” she added.
Jenny is a freelance illustrator who studies Digital Media at the HAWK University of Applied Science, towards her Bachelor of Arts. She has been neck-deep in art for as long as she can remember and even had her first exhibitions at the young age of 16.
People shared how her comic made them feel
I was in a car with my mom once and we were driving on a narrow road with houses on each side, we were in the speed limit but a kitten jumped in front of the car last second, my mom did a hard break but the kitten had jumped so close to the car it wasn't enough time to stop, She didn't kill the cat on purpose. another option would have been hard turn into the walls of the houses, on one side there was a man standing so we would have killed him or smash into the wall and endanger our lives . it's not always because people are a******s and they don't stop cos they have murder in mind, sometimes it can't be helped. I hope you are never in such a situation where you have to choose between yours, your childs, a bystanders or a kittens life.

f*** those onion cutting ninjas, this made me cry at work... i have soft spot for animals, especially little ones
A week ago in Germany we waited for a duck family to cross the road, but they decided to run circles instead (country side) and play with some leafs in the storm. It took them like 10 minutes and ~10 cars had stopped but most people were just watching them and taking pictures. :) I luckily only saw ppl wait for animals. also a confused deer who ran left to right after it got stuck on the road between 2 animal fences that were supposed to keep it safe not suck. 2 hours and 3 police cars and a hunter to help him find his way out with stopped traffic - was a long way
THis artist is literally making me die of heartbreak every single time. I've run into traffic to save animals from being hit, and humans do not even *slow down*, it's just all "in their way"... This Death is the kindest I've seen outisde Terry Pratchett
"I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I COULD MURDER A CURRY". STP's DEATH is awesome :D

i love animals so i just hate when someone doesn't stop for them unnamed-5e...a28c3d.png
I grew up in the country. There was always an expectation that an animal would more than likely jump out in front of you. If more people drive like that there would be less incidents like this.
Also just in general: DON'T TAILGATE. If someone in front of you has to stop on emergency or for an animal in the road, you need to be able to stop safely!!! Tailgaters are sh*tty, and you're not going to get there any faster. Also you will be paying the insurance bills if you are the one to be responsible for rear-ending a car.
You are so right. I do hate drivers who tailgate. I'm not going to drive faster just because another driver wants to go faster, or go over the speed limit because another driver is in a hurry. If they have an important meeting they should leave earlier, and just accept that the road is not theirs.

I wish the mom would at least recognize her late ducking. Do you agree?
Sadly, she ... he? ... don't matter - is right all the time. People suck at caring for anything but themselves...
People who deliberately run over ducks deserve to have the very worst things happen to them.

I think what makes these so incredibly sad is the presence of 'Death' as an individual. How they are always kind and caring to the deceased animal. Humans view them as this evil entity coming to snatch away life whereas the artist believes that 'Death' (as in the Reaper) is there to escort the deceased and comfort them when nobody else can. It's so sad but also heartwarming in a weird way. Bravo to the artist!
Uggg.. these kill me, but I look forward to them. Sweet, and sad... but I guess all the world is.
F**k I was having a good day.....this comics hits hard....very hard
Jesus christ I can't take this guy's art much more. I feed the local flock of quail and every year they have babies and every fall they have fewer left. I know some of it is raptor predation, which is fine, but "outdoor cat" predation is terrible and human caused.
I remember. I was childhood. I saw death two baby birds. Later years I witness two birds hit by car and bus. I’m horrible :(.
my dad risked crashing to swerve to avoid hitting a squirrel and said sorry if he did ran over it as I was visably crying
i crying right now what kind off people dont even stop for little animals and if they do they should at least stop
I once nearly got myself killed when I threw on my hazards in a busy LA intersection and ran out to help some baby geese who were in the road, they couldn't hop the curb and the parents were up on a grassy bank honking, desperately trying to urge the babies to make it up. Everyone else just zoomed past, a few even honked at them. Luckily although I made quite a few people angry nobody tried to ram my car, and I was able to scoop all the tiny goslings up onto the greenbelt to join the family. It really doesn't take much effort to be compassionate. I have such a soft spot for waterfowl, but for real, anyone who doesn't brake for baby ducks and geese is a heartless monster.
Also most people don’t hit animals on purpose. Ever drive down a country road and have a squirrel burst out of the woods at the last second? There’s no saving him. It’s those last second crossers that usually get run over but ducks... they aren’t last minute crossers. The guy in the comic could have stopped in time.
Anyone know how to contact her? I'd like to tell her a story about a bunny, see if she'd like to make something about it.
I would like to point out that KwayneT seems to be implying that the duckling's death was its own fault, thus becoming nearly as bad as the driver of that car.
This girl has a super power - THE POWER TO MAKE ME FEEEEEEEEEEEL waaaaahhhhhhhahahahahhaha
Life is too hard already. My husband, as he's falling asleep mentioned his brilliant boyhood friend who died just before the start of high school. Made me think of my best friend who died a few years ago. I was already weeping as I read this. So no. Just no.
You think this is sad? What about factory farms which ground LIVE male chicks so people could eat tuns of eggs???? All you have to do is at least significantly reduce consumption of animal "products", or better yet, adopt the plant-based (vegan) diet for the sake of your own health, the health of the environment, and suffering animals. Thank you for your consideration. "Love is a four legged word."
It's not as easy as just going vegan. I tried to do a vegetarian week once, and almost gave up multiple times. I had to eat the same meals multiple times because I don't like a lot of alternatives, and a lot of those meals involved cheese. If I ever had to be a vegan, I wouldn't make it past a day without giving up. Please have some empathy for people who can't have alternative milk and cheese because of nut allergies and people who hardly have any food that they like as it is because of sensory processing disorder.

Load More Replies...How is the author being morbid? I would hardly call posting a few comics about death "morbid."
