Artist Turns 50 Random Facebook Users’ Profile Photos Into Sloths (You Might Be Next)
Hector Janse van Rensburg, a young artist in the U.K., has followed a strange but wonderful path to internet fame. Rensburg, who also goes by Shitty_Watercolour, his handle on Reddit, created a series of watercolor paintings depicting 50 random people on Facebook as sloths.
Rensburg revisited his old watercolor painting set to stave off depression following his rejection from his first-choice university. His first taste of fame was on Reddit, where he painted fellow Redditors’ portraits and greeted celebrities during their “Ask Me Anything” segments by painting portraits of them – he even did one of President Obama that was featured on Obama’s website! These Facebook portraits are part of his recent “sloth period,” during which he has gradually replaced people in his paintings with sloths.
